These look awesome, thanks for sharing !
I know it's been David's vision from the beginning that people create their own custom pieces to work with the Hammer. At it's core, the Hammer is a tool for generating heated air for vaporization... what you do with that hot air is really up to you. The stems that are available for the Hammer are just a few possible options, but the possibilities are endless. It's really a different way to think about vaporization and it's fun to see that creative lightbulb go off when someone really "gets it".
Kudos to you scral ! We have had people make custom glass pieces for the Hammer and even use it to fill balloons, but you have officially created the first wooden pieces for it. Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with.
Question: Scral is using his stem on the opposite side of what I thought was the heat port. I wondered early on if you could use either side, but it felt as if the heat generated better from the side opposite the thumb trigger.
Is either side usable with similar or the same results?
First night using my Hammer, decided to go with the 14mm gong attachment; probably not the wisest choice for my first time. I got the FATTEST first rip out of my Liquid Sci tube, but soon realized I combusted about half my bowl . I'm going to load up my stem and see if I can control it better.
Hey Dude, I thought the same thing about the heating port and just tried it one day. Seems to work identical to the other side but who am I to say.... Perhaps the Hammer guys will chime in as this is a pretty good question. Is there a right way to use the hammer?
Also, thanks guys for your comments on the "Wood Sucker" - aka wood stem and I can NOT stop staring at that slyme stem. So pretty!
A tip I would give is the first time you use it - Go to page 1 of this thread and start the video. Use it in sync with the video and it works PERFECT. Then you will have an idea of how hot it needs to be. After it's hot you just have to blast it a few seconds to keep it back up to the temp you like.
This thing works really well. Log vape people will really like this as a portable, or just as an "away from my desk" unit, it gives a really similar experience. Same type of efficiency, similar airflow, similar technique, and with the addition of temperature control. Between this and the e-nano I am feeling pretty covered. Also as others have said people that like one hitters will get the hang of it in no time.
The only thing I would say to watch out for is pretty obvious, but I would light it away from your face, then move it close and start taking a pull. I say this because sometimes if you don't push the button with haste you may get a little escape exhaust around the outsides that could light briefly or be right there for you to breath into your nose by accident. Sounds dumb but it's natural for people to light a cigarette or whatever like that right in front of their face with a regular lighter. Torches have that burst of pressure. You definitely can't taste anything in the air path though and once it's lit the exhaust ports away from your face.
I refilled the tank once and it seems like a single can of butane is going to refill it many times. The ability to run out of fuel/power is always going to be a drawback, but one tank lasted long enough bowls to make me quite happy (I forgot to count). Also, it refilled in about 2 seconds. Find some batteries that do that...
The whole kit is really well thought out, simple, and clever. Cool design. I'm really happy with the Hammer.
David is actually working on making a few of these. Hope to have them available for purchase in the next few weeks. We will keep you posted.
Yes, you can actually use either side with the same result. The heat exchanger is identical on both sides inside the Hammer, with the flame being applied directly in the middle.
It's really just a matter of how you are most comfortable holding the Hammer. The only real difference is that there is a small indicator inside the big side that let's you easily see if the flame is lit, but once you have a feel for the Hammer you won't need to use the indicator to know that you have a flame. You can also see the flame from the top or small side, it's just easiest to see on the large side through the indicator. With the new Lock-On Kit installed, you can actually use one side with the lock-on stems and still use the other side with the standard stems.
Yeah, def suggest spending your first several sessions learning with a normal stem. Once you get a feel for it, then you can apply that knowledge to using the GonG stem. You need to be able to feel the heat and vapor on your tongue during the learning phase. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks Charlie! Glad you are enjoying your Hammer.
Although we haven't tested it precisely, a large can of butane (5.82 oz for ~5.00) will last upwards of 30-40 fills.
There is still one Custom Slyme Stem left
Should have another round of custom stems coming in the next few weeks, will def do some more in Slyme.
A double-hitter one-hitter! Hell yeah squared! Could also make a really unique valentines gift so you and that special stoner in your life can pull a vape variation of the spaghetti scene in "Lady and the Tramp."
Just mentally insert the Hammer with two stems where the spaghetti is now:
This is GREAT!! I'm glad to hear that the Hammer helped you quit burning.
NO MORE wispy HITS
Just had my first great session with the Hammer; well great sessionS. Just like that, my opinion has completely changed. I used my longer stem, heated the vape up for about 20-30 seconds, and then got four slow draws worth of tasty vapor.
I really think this thing is going to take the crown for my backup vape; something I can whip out when I don't have access to a wall charger or external battery. I'd MUCHH rather use this than my MFLB on the go. I feel like the vapor quality you get from this thing is just incredible. I completely understand how someone in a previous post said this thing is great for "sampling" your herb. You get the full, rich flavor, and a nice thick cloud of vapor.
If you're wanting something that holds a lot of material, move along.. this has a smaller load capacity... regardless of what stem you're using... but god damn, this thing is awesome.
Damn. I'ma gettin' the fever for this one. That irrestible pull.
Did you use it stock or with some of the upgrades? Have you tried other butane vapes and if so how does it compare in terms of getting that full flavor?
And it's tested to 10,000 feet....in case from time to time you get that high.
Or think you might?
I prefer 8 miles high.
I have the silicone upgrade that helps the bowl stay in place... which i'd recommend highly. But other than that, I was just using the regular stem. I have a TON of accessories for it, which I'll show and demonstrate in my video review in the next week or two.... but I'm really impressed. I haven't used an iolite, for the simple fact that they tend to have mixed reviews on how long they last... as long as this thing holds up... i'll have no need to try another.
Side note: I cannot believe one just went for $50 in the classifieds, and I'm highly debating picking up the wig-wag custom stem from that website. I love my slyme one, but a little variety would also be nice to add to the collection.
Sorry I meant other lighter based vapes like the genie.
Nah, I don't know if I have the time to master the Genie. I'm sure it works, but I'd much rather just hold down the Hammer button for 25 seconds than run through disposable lighters. Personal preference, I just feel like the Genie is a bit too gimmicky... i've seen multiple opinions on the vapor quality; and I can contest... the Hammer's "no more whispy hits" runs true... they're thick until you get that popcorn taste from your herb.
I'm going to continue using it throughout the next week or two before I lock in my complete opinion, but after I got past the trial and error stage (combusted my first 3 times), I've been pleasantly surprised. I've had about 8 sessions and still have quite a bit of butane left.. I've yet to refill it.
Now that you have a feel for the timing... go back and try the GonG fitting again.
Lately, I have been using the GonG with a small bubbler... and it gives some incredible vapor. On a larger tube, the GonG could make the Hammer into a real monster.

No problem, those cabins are pressurized. But they also have smoke alarms, opinionated folks in charge used to having their way and not may retreat options. Your call of course. But IMO 'more intimate' planes without smoke alarms, a simpler authority structure and open doors and parachutes is a better test venue?
Oh, yeah, the touchdowns are different, too.
Still, choice is good I'm told.
I was just reminded I never actually tried the 'self holding stem' (got lost looking for more gas....). Some things are just so simple and obviously well thought out I just 'knew' it would work as advertised and have been distracted with other projects.
Got to put it back on the list.....starting with figuring where I left the gas can....
It's tough getting old. Lots of these young punks could never handle it.
I snagged that one in the classifieds and I'm really excited for it to get here. Hard price to pass up. I'm also excited to see your video review.
That little wooden stem looks great! Was this custom made then or was it a stem for a different unit that was adapted for use with the hammer?
Until you have to put it in your pocket quickly...
It's not really a stealth device. You can't hide it while hitting it like the LB, it stays hot so you can't just quickly slip it into a pocket, and it makes a noise in use (but it's not that loud even on high). If you don't need stealth, then it is definitely a good OTG vapourizer. I think the Hammer has another drawback for OTG use, though: it really needs an unbreakable stem like that wood stem scral made. That would turn it into the champion of hiking/camping vapes.
You may not be able to conceal the Hammer as easily as an LB...
But there is nothing discreet about dense, billowing clouds of vapor
The sheer effectiveness of the Hammer kind of throws stealth out the window...

There are many here (myself included) who take issue with equating visible cloud size and effectiveness.
I'm still itching for one of these… The design is too neat to pass up!
There definitely isn't.
I prefer low temperature vapour myself—which you can get from the Hammer with a little technique. I don't like clouds because they're hotter and harsher and not as tasty. As far as I'm concerned the only place for clouds is filling bags or milking a bong. If you're exhaling them then not only are you not being discreet, you're wasting vapour.
You can't change the discretion factor so that's a distraction anyway. You can make it more rugged though. What about offering unbreakable stems?
I was really just making a joke, and completely agree with both of you. (I rarely vaporize in situations where discretion is required... consequently, stealth was not really a design consideration). I have to admit that initially I was turned off by vaporization because early models were very wispy... It just felt too different from smoking. I have since learned to appreciate the low-temp, sipping experience... but I would have never quit combusting without that familiar feeling.
Since everyone has their own rituals and preferences, the most important thing to me was creating a highly effective vape that could be used any way that you desire. I don't like being limited by a programmed circuit board... Once you learn how to drive it, you can get everything from cool, thin, tasty vapor to dense, billowing clouds.
In fact, the new lock on stem really lends itself to the slow and low technique that pakalolo prefers. You just lock it on and draw on the stem (like sipping from a straw). This way you can take your time and creep up on the perfect temperature. Keep taking little sips until it feels just right
Because you can drive the Hammer any way you like, you can do this too. As I mentioned before, my daily driver has been a small bubbler. I know that water filtration can diminish the flavor, but once the vapor has been cooled, you go a lot bigger without any harsh-ness.
I have an obvious bias towards glass... But because the Hammer can travel so far from civilization, it is becoming very clear that an indestructible stem is needed. I hope to have a solution very soon.
NO MORE wispy HITS (okay, okay, sometimes...)
Please forgive me if this has been covered. I think I've read through the whole thread but could have skimmed over this topic.
Doesn't using the lock-on system how you describe lead to breathing in butane? The original system heated up before you introduced the herb in the straw, but with the lock-on system aren't you blasting the herb with gas, and even worse sucking in the gas directly if taking sips while it heats up?
I could be totally misunderstanding the system and do not want to rain on your parade. But if what I say is true I don't think I would use the lock-on system, though I would still be very interested in your product using it the original way. Of course there is the argument that all the butane burns up, but if I smell it then that's enough to concern me using the lock-on system.
