Is that case childproof? Send one to my kids for a thorough testing possibly will be tested for immersion, crushproof and dog chewing.

There's the spirit! I respect your volunteerism and I'm sure we all thank you in advance for your service and sacrifice!

@slcbdco @midgetsanchez @Just Justin and anyone else who has a GH, have you noticed any charring of your herb at high temps?

Thus the beauty of this thread ....

Just a few pages ago someone said my ABV on temp 5 wasn't charred enough for their Let them Eat Crawfish taste ...

Without a hint of irony I will say, scientifically "I don't know".

Anecdotally however, I did just conduct and anecdote because I knew you would respect my volunteerism and thank me for my service and sacrifice.

I was treatin myself to my signature strain Agent Orange from Terrapin in Boulder (my signature strain a. because I do smoke a LOT of it and b. it is the derivation of my zonk name (zonk the bong game, if you've never played, that's a mistake, you should call some friends and fix that this evening, it's SO TRES SEIS :science:) and I decided sure, let's do an experiment err anecdote.

So I crank it up to 5 take a few rips, and then my dog starts barking. It's the maintenance guy, (not to worry all is well here in the Duchy) I had just ran into him in front of the pool the other day and wanted to show him the GH but this busy body lady came over to complain to him about some problem that probably doesn't actually exist outside of her imagination so I told him to just come by sometime.

He did, I showed him the GH and I tapped out what was in there to show him the chamber forgetting that I was in the middle of an anecdote. I would say the ABV was just bordering on begone dull care, certainly no crawfish to be found.

I did put it back in as she mentioned and tried a few more rips, even got it to flash the "chill stoner" lights. (FEATURE NOT A BUG CONFIRMED BY HIS MAJESTY THE GRASSHOPPER HIMSELF, or at least that's what Trevor told me :nope:) when the heater gets too hot for its own tolerances it will flash blue/red until the temparture cools back down. The very few times this has happened it has been in a situation I can't imagine using the GH outside of science err I mean anecdote, examples being usually something exactly like this after scorching a bowl a few hits on temp 5 then ripping it through a bubbler or something very high demand like that and. the cool back down time is measured in seconds. To preempt the question, NO I will not make a video and here are the reasons:

1. I don't want to be as high as it would take to get it to that state again, and I'm not even sure I could reliably force it to happen. This light is like a check engine light in a car except it has the decency to turn itself off after the temporary problem sorts itself out instead of paying the tech $60 for "some reason" (#protip just by an OBDII sensor and turn the light out yo own self)

2. Even if I wanted to try to break my unit for your entertainment (there was probably a less porny was of phrasing that ...:\) which I don't, by the time I saw the lights flash and showed a camera they would already be off, and no I'm not going to construct a film studio in my living room, simple country lobbyist, not a scientist

That said anybody that wants to panic about a built in FEATURE designed to IMPROVE the long term durability of the device that one would only experience in pretty EXTREME circumstances, go right ahead and worry about nothing, maybe you and that lady can be roommates. For everyone else, remember what the guide says: DONT PANIC!

So right, so after the "chill stoner" lights I took a few more rips till it was WAAAY to begone dull care for my High taste, I dumped it out, not a crawfish to be found, so in my experience when used correctly and even when used not so correctly and even used in a way of why are you trying to burn your lips and break your device where even it is like c'mon dude honestly, there ain't no famine give me 5 seconds, no your dope does NOT char.

And because I have volunteered to sacrifice I did try to break my me for your entertainment by ripping a bowl of the same dope in a pax 2 so you can see what I consider begone dull care ABV vs. Let them Eat Crawfish ABV, thus making them scientific terms and me a scientist

Also then a link to the #LetThemEatCrawfish reference to further the establishment of this lexicon :bang:

p.s. links coming in an edit, hot on my balcony, worried my iPad my crash taking pics etc. so don't wanna lose the whole post, edits coming as quick as any subsequent Grasshopper Inspired misadventures might allow, the iPad for the record NOT the grasshopper, the Apple product in my hand, not the start up product baking in th sun is th unit overheating just to be clear :p

Anecdotally, after I took the pics I grabbed my stuff and went inside so that my iPad wouldn't die of heat stroke, picked up my iPhone and GH which were on the table next to each other getting anecdotally the same amount of conductive heating from both solar radiation and the black metal table they were resting on, iPhone almost unbearable to touch, GH, FINE

Okay so it seems like these pics are:

All the ABV together

Not the best example of Crawfish because the pax2 vapes so uneven so it was hard to separate out and the Grasshoppper being made in Boulder where we have banned crawfish simply doesn't make it.

"Tres seis" is like the number of the beast or something? Been reading the Book of Revelations?

Trevor actually told you the flashing blue and red was OK? Cause I'm pretty sure he told everyone else who had that happen to send theirs back cause they were malfunctioning.

Those "check engine" lights in your car? They actually have a purpose. I own a code reader for our vehicles, and while sometimes the light is something totally spurious and ignorable and you can turn it off so it doesn't annoy you, many other times it is something that is serious and needs attention before you do damage to the engine.

So is it safe to say this vape can successfully do sessions or 1 hit and put it down?

I usually have 2 or 3 before i put it down but again and I can't stress this enough, while you could session with it, i can't imagine anyone really wanting or needing to. When I want the experience of a session (i.e. I care more about it taking a long time than the flavor or quality of high, for example I'm at a bar and my friends go out for a cigarette and I'd like to treat myself for that length of time regardless the outcome, then the pax2 is the way to go, when I'm trying to experience a new strain, care about flavor, or just straight wanna get high, I grab the GH and before a pax would even start up (and yes I did this anecdote, set the pax2 to temp 3 turned it on, grabbed the GH took the top off, put in a pinch, put the top back on, turned it on, took two hits and put it back in my pocket before the pax was ready) I will have accomplished whatever it was I sought and back to my day.

I might have said this before but the GH is like the apple watch in the sense that it moves its functions to the background. That analogy may not work for everyone but for example, I am just organically going a lot longer between vape sessions than I did pre-GH. Not only is it a great way to get high, it's the most in obtrusive way, and I don't give a fuck about discretion but if you do for some crawfishy sounding reason or if you would like to spend more time being high and less time getting high .... if you prefer the short lift ride and the long ski run, the GH is the vape you're looking for .... that is of course unless you're offened by rich flavor :-)

@zymos Tres Seis: Colloquial term, roughly translated awesome with a tinge of getting away with something for it to have been so awesome. ex: The Grasshopper is awesome and sorta seems like it's breaking some laws of physics considering high per gram ergo it is TRES SEIS!!

Also that is PRECISELY why I said DONT PANIC, when other folks had that ABSOLUTELY A FEATURE NOT A BUG light flash, it was flashing in error. In my instance, since I was trying to break my unit using it in a way that I would never ordinarily use it because using it that way would break my brain, I occasionally (like maybe once a day during some stoopid experiment or showing it off to a groups of people and well after I put on the mouthpiece which I almost NEVER use because it actually did get uncomfortable to my bare lips again on the highest temp, which I never use, several hits in, which I never do, and few hits AFTER, the ABSOLUTELY A FEATURE, THOUGH THE COMPONENT IN SOME UNITS MALFUCNTIONED NOTWITHSTANDING lights would briefly come on like they are supposed to, the unit stopped Vaping like it supposed to and a few seconds later it reache the proper temparture and resumed) get the lights.

My unit is going on two almost 3 weeks functions perfectly.

Reminds me, another thing that folks may not know so DONT PANIC!

the ticking sound, it's SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!

the flashing blue light when you're hitting it, it's SUPPOSED TO DO THAT! I'll make me easier to find at festivals a night!

@slcbdco Just a question about my potential method of use. What if I wanted to pack it semi full, not to the point of being to tight and restricting airflow but just under that point. Then use it during a ski day for example taking 3 or 4 hits every few lift rides. The pinch method looks great for at home but when I'm out and about Id rather not have to reload after every use. Could you see this method being practical? Obviously it won't be fresh hits all the time but when i'm skiing flavor is not my priority, I just want to get high and ski down the mountain.

I think that will work just fine and it's likely I will do the same thing come ski season, have a half packed bowl and take one or 2 big rips on temp 4. I figure extrapolating from my experience so far, controlling for "new toy" usage I estimate I would probably have to reload it once maybe twice on a typical ski day for me which is probably 6 hours or so of mountain time. According to @BuzzDanklin that should work, he got to try it Keystone I believe

What makes the GH inferior for this purpose? Can you not start at lower temperatures and take a number of small hits or something?

So got my replacement today. Compared the startups on each and there is a slight difference. The new one is works just as great as the one i had did haha. I think this one keeps up with my fast draws better too.

The old one worked just had a slight increase in time that trevor felt he needed to look at.

Also i totally use this in a sesion with friends if a water tool is around. If there isn't a water tool it works but we have to use lower temps.

I keep trying to be clear about this and I realize my writing style is sarcastic but I gotta get something outta this too ... writing be mad boring yo ...

By say the pax2 is better for that specific application I am not saying the GH is "inferior" just like when I say for the same situation an SS might be better that a Ti or vice versa its not to denigrate the other its simply to say the other is better. When something is bad I say its bad. That said I replied thoroughly on reddit to your question plus another Grasshopper Inspired Misadventure which was simply too long to post on here. Link below, read at yo own risk, also a pic link to the supporting ABV for the scientist.

Just did a little video to help demonstrate the efficiency I've been experiencing. I've been packing it fairly full so far, but today I didn't fill the chamber nearly as much. With the increased airflow I was getting better hits - you can pack it full but I wouldn't pack it tight. This was the 4th toke from the bowl, and I've subsequently had 2 more on temp 3.5. The efficiency has really surprised me, in the best possible way

lmao that's hilarious! that show is awesome!

@SneakyPeteVaporizers How has the GH been treating you since you've had some time with it? Would be very interested to hear your early thoughts.
so far digging it a great deal. This represents a new product category IMHO, and they seem to have pulled it off quite well. Build is amazing, super efficient, battery goes for longer than I would expect, heats up in under 5 seconds every time, and it rips like a tank! I wouldn't recommend hitting on 4 or above without being hooked up to a water tool, at least for me it gets too hot at that point. Mouthpiece heat up is a non issue unless you are doing rapid tokes or sessioning with friends. The silicone mouthpiece should mitigate any of the heat issues though. Very, very impressed overall. This will be something I will use all of the time going forward, barring some unforeseen development.

@SneakyPeteVaporizers, nice video.

You early reviewers (amateur and professional) are moving me closer to ordering a GH . I don't really NEED another vaporizer though, because I do enjoy a couple that I already own. In other words, I'm having a hard time justifying a Grasshopper purchase........then I got to thinking it could be my road vape, and I could save money that I've been spending on oil cartridges at the dispensary. I don't think the GH would be as convenient as the cartridges, but the taste, and I think better high, of fresh bud may be worth the small hassle of carrying a weed container and refilling on the fly.

What say all? Should I pull the trigger on a Grasshopper? As you can see, I'm conflicted. Or maybe just really stoned from testing my ESV. But whatever, back to the question.

@SneakyPeteVaporizers So it is a portable device that needs a water pipe if you go past 4? I don't get that. Maybe pack less in? If I am gonna use glass i'd prefer to use a bigger vape. The GH could be the greatest extraction device ever made, but it is still a small mass. Kinda like being a featherweight champ in a world with heavyweights. If I am home I am gonna use the biggest knockout vape I have. If I am out I'd love to have something like the GH. If I can't go past 4 or pass it around quickly because it overheats, what is it doing for me?

Seems like some want it to be a be-all device... I just want something portable.

Thanks for the reviews!!!

YES!!! (insert Ron Paul gif if I knew how to do it) I'm glad someone else is talking about the efficiency "surprising" them. Totally agree with sneakypete this is a NEW product category, you can't think of it in terms of vapes you already have because It's not that. And it's not an issue of better or worse (though this is the best overall vape I've used, curious to try the ascent and crafty as I've heard great things though they simply can't compete on start up time and once you get used to 5 seconds you just want 3, you certainly can't go back to anything measured in minutes) it's just an issue of different. I still use my pax2 when it's the best tool for the job, it's just usually in my arsenal of pax, firefly, bubbler, bong, dabtini dab tool set, a couple of bowls a nectar collector dabbed and of course good ole fashion paper. My tool of choice has been GH, followed by spliffs (tobacco is a hell of a drug) followed by pax2 for spliffs and other herbs mixed with cannabis and then everything else. Note that my BY FAR most expensive dope to the FF is in "other"

The GH is a connesiuer product. The reason to buy it now is to save money but you will want something in this product category in your cache

@RelaxedNow I said this way back. It sounds like we use dispensary cartridges the same way. I like o-pen and dispensary oil cartridges but I won't be using them now that I have the GH, it really is that convenient

Glad people are liking there grasshoppers, Im kinda bummed that they released this vape without the ability to use concentrates. This was supposed to do both, right ? I thought that was the point of all this, a pen style vape that does concentrates and dry herb.

If this is gonna just be a dry herb vape with the form factor of a pen then Ive been following this vape for a long time for no reason.

Get some cotton in place wax over it and you ll be kk and good to go until the oil tip is out.

To those wondering about the vapor being hot at temps above 4," and needing a watertool, don't forget that the GH is designed to also do concentrates (when the oil front end is produced), so really they had to include hotter temps at the higher end of the dial for efficient Vaping of concentrates.

I think a lot of backers would be bummed out if their grasshoppers weren't capable of ripping dabs because of limited temps. I think it's safe to say temp 5 is really for concentrate use, and because you can set the dial anywhere inbetween numbers (3.5 or 4.2 etc) that there really is a lot if control so we should be able to get decent extraction around the 3-4 range with herbs.

I also just wanted to ask a question to those with their hoppers- have you tried loading it with a small unground nug? I find my convection vapes (enano, lotus, vaponic) work really well and taste amazing if I just rip a reallysmall bit off a bud and load that. I find the flavour seems fuller and lasts longer, probably because it takes a few hits for the heat to penetrate the material completely. Obviously this could mean needing to stir halfway through, but for science I really would like to know how the hopper handles unground material. It's much more convenient to load on the go this way.
Peace

I'm not sure if it's been shared but how smelly does the GH get with an unvaped load? If those with a GH have some experimenting time I propose a comparison of unvaped load vs a vaped load. Quantity could be a variable, the use of the leather sleeve could be another. For the experiment to work one would need someone with a fresh nose, since vapers or smokers aren't great at detecting the smell when smoking/vaping or having smoked/vaped recently.
