I’m absolutely sure 7th Floor Vapes knew it, it’s their specialty, it’s that they were just looking for the durability, since there has been some problems with the heater breaking and a new option is always appreciated. In my opinion, we don’t have to think about the heaters as better or worse.
It’s like the whole lot of different vapcap tips, each one brings one or another detail or characteristic that changes the experience a little bit. Nothing over the top that affects too much the overall performance or feeling, but enough for most enthusiastics to feel that something has changed, even If it’s almost insignificant. It’s all about the little details. Some people notice more, some notice less and some don’t notice at all, but that’s the beauty of it and this is why we have hundred of pages talking about our beloved vaporizers :D.

Well i expressed my concerns initially, but it was lost in hype. I've had played recently with both quartz and simax boro in the Gn0me concepts and other than quartz's increased thermal durability for 7 times the cost of boro..,there is no other big difference. Man ,european quartz is really expensive compared to the Chinese stuff,it would be a real nightmare when i drop it one day.. I highly doubt it would outlast 7 boro heaters considering that i get clumsy from time to time..(have in mind that i am just taking raw materials in account,of course 7 boro heaters would present a lot more labor)
IDK what thickness is the Elev8r but in the Gn0me concept i used 2mm quartz and it is durable enough. What i am most dissappointed of, is that I dont notice any difference in taste ,heat retention was as good as boro.
Boro is best bang for the buck ,at least for EU sourced materials, but quartz is a nice connossieur version :).

I still think a quartz heater that retains heat is possible.

They just haven't figured it out yet. I have faith they will.

I was very vocal about these being made and really want to support them. I hope they don't toss in the towel yet.

A quartz heater that retains heat would take this vape to another level.

I'm dying to use my stopwatch . Not really interested in messing with coils...

    I have faith in @7thFloorVapes

    You were right!
my crème brûlée torch is very uneven, and the flame doesn't stay in position with the block.
I'll have to buy a Big Buddy or something else... once i'll have put some money away.

This week I am the proud owner of a new quartz ELEV8R thanks very much to the fantastic advice of @LabPong and the great people from @7thFloorVapes !

I have never experienced the borosilicate heater for the ELEV8R so I can’t speak to how it compares to the quartz. The ability to get a quartz version made a significant difference in my decision to purchase. We have three dogs so when there’s access to a more durable alternative to glass, we’re interested.

So far I’ve stuck to the basics: using my Blazer Big Shot (don’t say @Alexis didn’t tell y’all!) on the quartz attached to the custom wand by https://www.instagram.com/mattzglass/ that I couldn’t resist buying.

In near the future I will definitely be checking out how it works with my Auber RDK-300 and the 15.8mm coil that @LabPong and others have made good use of.

Also on the To Do list: check out water pieces with the WPA. :science:

It’s taken a couple weeks but I’m almost done reading every page in this thread. Thanks so much to those who have contributed!

I have been very excited about this quartz heater. When I picked up my elev8r I ended up with three boro heaters. I us the elev8r all the time and I still have three heaters...man, I need to wait until at least one of you boro heaters to breaks..come on! crack already, I need to pick-up a quartz.

    Picture time!

This is the gorgeous rainbow wand made by https://www.instagram.com/mattzglass/ :

Above is the “stand” I repurposed out of other household objects. It’s a ceramic and stainless upright spoon rest. I was concerned about chipping the glass wand against the ceramic dish, so I cut down a silicone OXO coaster to fit the inside. Due to the shape of the dish, the outer edge that I cut off the coaster made a nice gasket to go inside the top rim of the dish for extra cushioning.

Dang nice piece of glass work right there!

Even more impressive Vicki is your tweak job on the ceramic dish.....AWESOME!

You just need to make some sort of piece to set the hot heater down on. What do you use to touch or move the heater when it is still hot?

So far I haven’t needed to touch the heater when hot. Maybe because it’s the quartz one and cools down within a few minutes? I sit the whole thing clipped together in the spoon rest, heater end up. Once it’s cool enough to handle easily I break it down and clean the bowl/repack.

If I needed to touch the heater while hot I guess I’d probably use some silicone finger protectors like this:

This description sounds like I’m not the first one with that idea: :buzz:

Nice pics, great stand, and fancy wand! How does it compare to the stock wand? I haven’t even used the wand yet, I just use the WPA. Does it have a glass screen?

Thanks for the link, I’m going to buy those right now! I just added a silicone hotpad to my shopping list that I had planned to cut in order to handle the heater better. These are small and perfect, exactly what I need..didn’t know they existed :)

It does have a glass screen and I believe is around an inch longer? Gimme a day or so and I’ll take some pictures and measurements/weights compared to the stock wand.

You’re welcome, and I hope they work out great for you!

Cool, I was just wondering if you had used the stock wand and if the experience (vapor) was different in use. Some people have said the vapor from the straight wand was too harsh and preferred it through a water piece for added diffusion.

As for the silicone tips, the shipping estimate is Sept 17-Oct 9....so that sucks. I'm trying to find something similar from ebay, etc.

No, I haven’t used the stock wand yet, but I’ll do it and report back. The custom one is longer, heavier, and the airpath isn’t a straight shot.

I love water pieces too, so I’m sure I’ll be all about that method as well.

My apologies - I chose that link from Amazon because it said it could get that to me in mid-NA via Prime by Tuesday August 28th. Not sure what’s up with that difference.

Ok, now it says $7.89 with Prime. I think the seller changed. It said $5.xx when I first clicked on it - free shipping from China. Or you could pay $40 for slightly faster shipping lol..

Guys, stupid question, but I’ll use it the first time through water. This is my water piece. Do I leave the downstem like this or remove it? Also, do I need the 18mm adapter?

Alex91......you are good to go...just add water. The stock bowl is 14mm connection to the glass rig...and the top of the bowl is 18mm for the heater to set in (do not forget to put the sick clip on!).

Basically use it just like combusting....just that your using the elev8r bowl and heater.

Also, if you do not want to wait for the silicone finger cots to be shipped.....just go to your local fabric store and get a chunk of leather or thick suede. I use a doubled up piece of suede as a hot pad for grabbing the heater.

Good call, I remember that pic from earlier in this thread. I was going to cut the silicone into slightly bigger pieces. I ended up ordering finger guards from Joann - https://www.joann.com/finger-protectors/12536330.html and will pick them up tomorrow. I don’t have huge fingers, so I figured they should be ok.

Hey everybody wishing you all a bright and fresh start to the new week.:)

So I have been doing some more testing with the quartz heater and I am definitely warming to it. I have been using the torch a bit and the performance is certainly satisfactory for me the draw restriction is less noticeable with the torch because the vapor production flows more easily than it does with my loose fitting coil where I have to suck a bit harder and for a longer time get equal sized hits and extraction.

I still notice an unquestionable different flavour profile but I'm also warming to this it definitely is more neutral but very pure and I am actually noticing different flavours which I like in my tastiest strains which were not expressed so well with the grass heater so that is interesting.

I do think I wil get another coil to fit the Quartz then I can do a fairer comparison and see which setup I like best.

@alex91 i cant wait to hear your thoughts buddy. With a torch Im pretty happy with the performance of the quartz so no need for you to ever wonder if you are missing anything.
Just enjoy I wanna hear the details so make sure you pencil me in.

I’m loving it, but I will test it a little more and write a mini-review tomorrow or wednesday, but I can say that it’s gonna be my main vape for sure (I also have the Mighty, Omnivap XL, SB Jr and Milaana).

Also, love having the support of you guys and the discussions in this thread. You rock and hope you all have an awesome week too.

May I ask you a stupid question? How do you guys hit the bong? The way I hit it is: I heat up the vape, insert it and then pull slowly from the bong until I see vapor in the chamber, then I pull as fast as I can and after that I remove the vape and pull what’s left. Is this the correct way or you guys have found a more effective way?

I've got a lot of lung capacity, I hear it in my hands, drop into the bong, starting pulling. I don't start slow, despite the fact the vapor takes a second to start rolling. I pull almost as long as I can and then remove the bowl/heater from bong to help clear it. It's almost exactly like hitting a bong from the old days. Almost.

I think you have the right idea...I mean in theory you might be able to heat the heater while it sits on the bong, but I didn't prefer that method when I tried it.

    Hello friends,
I don’t know if this have been mention before, but to have the correct temperature using a torch without calculating time, I check the color of the flame where it touch the heater.... with the Bigbuddy at the lowest setting, when the flame turn from Blue to orange, the temperature is perfect for 2 big hit ! For me it work as well for the Boro and the Quartz heater!
Hope it help a couple of torch user!
Edit: I use a mixture of 70%butane/30%propane in my BigBuddy, I don’t know if that technique work with 100% Butane, never try:shrug:
