The CVault - Climate Controlled Storage

smokum

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
.........On an unrelated note I'm on the lookout for a piece of glass or stainless steel to fill up some of the empty space in my CVaults as I never have more than an ⅛ inside. I know there was discussion about this here or another thread. Anyone tried this?

Have you tried using sterilized glass marbles ? I use them in my bho tube for when I only want to do a small run.

The Cvault perople are sending me a new one for free, great service. I like how you guys are thinking outside the box and buying those offbrand ones, but come on, thats basically the whole product being replaced LOL. I don't think I will be buying anymore C-vaults unless my replacement one holds up LONG TERM.
Exactly, it's basically the whole product at a much cheaper price. The only real difference is the lid lacking the Boveda pack tray, so of course, I use the Freshstor lid. Seems a pretty good option to keep the CVault going for a cheap price (once it's out-of-warranty).
I also won't be buying anymore CVaults unless they hold up long-term, but if they break in the short-term, I expect I'll buy the Onyx replacement instead. I do wish a smaller size was offered as well.

I could but was hoping for 1 or 2 large objects (such as thick discs of glass) for easier cleaning out all the herb from the container. But glass marbles would work fine. I assume by sterilized, you mean immersed in boiling water prior.

So, I was on a quest for smell proof and freshness being most important and after exploring several different avenues, I sprang for the CVAULT so I thought I'd share my experience so far...

In terms of build of quality, it is nice and solid and can take a tumble or five. It's not thin nor light in weight leaving you feeling ripped off. The three latches are extra precaution which is what I desired for keeping it air tight and fresh as possible. My herb last me for months so this was crucial to me. The humidipak holder is innovative and slick, it even comes with instructions on how to install it. Two folds here n there and BAM, you're done! I have zero complaints in this area.

Now, on to air tightness and smell. What I'm about to say seems like a contradiction to me; I think it's air tight but smell is leaking out, albeit VERY little but when I go to my stash drawer, a Maryjane lover would immediate know it's in there. I don't know if I need to clean my solo but prior to buying this half of no-name purple haired goodness, my drawer had no smell. Now on the positive note, my fiancée dislikes the smell of herb and hasn't even mentioned it. I have sniffed the edges of the container and you can definitely smell it from there but that's extreme.

Last but not least, the preservation of the herb. I bought my stash about two weeks ago and haven't touched it. Non-med state equals lack of caring for the buds the right way and even with the over priced herb, it still may be dry as hell! This batch wasn't brittle yet but wasn't the moist sticky goodness it has when it's at it's full potential. Welp, two weeks later in the C-vault and it has the rich texture I crave for $200/half lol. The smell is still just as pungent and my tbreak is over,I can't wait to vape these moist purple haired meds.

Nevertheless, I don't regret my purchase but I do wish it was more smelly proof and hope it doesnt get worse once I continue to grow my Stash. It lives up to most of its hype and of course, the humidipak and the stainless steel (no light in) make this happen. When 4/20 sales arise, pick one up if you usually have your buds for more than a month!

That's sanitization, sterilization can be achieved with an autoclave.

To the previous poster, smells will permeate any container you use with enough time, so that's not necessarily a design flaw.

Just got my cvault today and I don't have any complaints other than the sticker being a little bit off center. Already making my dry crunchy herbs a little less crumbly. Does anyone store their concentrates in one of these? I always put mine on some parchment paper and throw it in with my buds, but I'm curious how the humidity pack will effect it.

I found a source claiming that the oils are not hygroscopic, which means that they do not absorb humidity like rice or like table salt.

You should see no benefit from the humidity aspect.

Iv'e had a Cvault for about a month now. The first latch broke within a few days of use. I continued using the jar with two latches and had got a free replacement from the company. Now another latch broke off on that first container, so it only has one left. The new container has held up but it has only been a week. Unless my first container was flawed then this product has a serious issue. Time will tell.

One other observation I wanted to point out was I think the humidipack is a good idea because I found the jhar with the Boveda pack is dryer than my plain mason jar. It actually brought the herb down to the right moisture content for smoking and vaping, and it grinds easily into a nice fluff. I always had to leave ther herb in my mason jar out for an hour or so to make it vape right. I initially thought I would notice moister weed since i got a Cvault, but the oppisite has been true, in a good way. Some people may have overdry bud but I now see how boveda pack is good even for herb that is still curing.

Last night I vaped some Dutch Treat. Wow. After using the CVault for a few weeks, I think my herb hit me way, way harder, and I'm noticing more resin and sticky. Better conditioned herb, I think.

I've consolidated my herbs (by type of effect) so I can get more into the CVaults I have, and out of the little jars. I do have a few pint canning jars with the packets for the rest, but I've got everything packed as good as possible now.

Only gripe: now I have to seriously clean (ISO) my NO2 every day, because I have sticky (dank?) herb... :p

Maybe I'm missing something, but either a mason jar with a cigar humidity pack or one of these http://www.amazon.com/Planetary-Design-Airscape-32oz-Black/dp/B002UK0WXS with the same humidity pack seems to accomplish the same thing as the Cvault at a lesser price...

It has been stated that you don't need a Cvault to get Cvault-like results. But "The Vault" looks a lot cooler. And that's important when you're really into hardcore storage porn.

You get two, or better yet three, of them stacked one on top of the other and it starts lookin' pretty sexy.

I like the Cvault for travel since they are smelly proof and are made of "Not Glass" :) That being said, I have 2 Cvaults and use numerous Mason jars in my lab fridge. The new Boveda packs look cool, and use a kind of paper now, very nice.

How would someone compare this vs a tightvac? I am already using tightvac's which are convenient to use. The only downside I have noticed is that the plastic just feels cheaper and it just feels a bit dirtier on the inside when the crystals fall off. Are there any good 4/20 deals on this anywhere?

It's not amazing or anything but ezvaporizers has them and a 16% off sale. In my newsletter E-mail they claim that more deal are coming through the weekend. :\

I find the tightvacs to be pretty cheap as well. No way I'd use that over my Vault.

Thanks for the reply. I am considering this because I want something nicer than my tightvac. I was looking at the UV screwtops at 420science as another option. Anyone have both of those? My herb gets dry after a couple of months in the tightvac and I even had some wax start to mold in a tight vac.

Yeah i find the tightvac dries things out even after a couple weeks. I started putting the humidipacks in my tightvac which gives better results however the humidipacks dry out way faster in my tightvac compared to the cvault.

Yeah, it looks cool, but the item I referenced will hold a cylinder of material approx 4 inches across, and up to 9 inches tall OR you can push the lid, which is a seal inside the container, down as far as you wish if you don't need all that space and eliminate the excess air in the container...

Vacuum is great for long term storage but I prefer humidipaks and CVaults or Mason jars for daily use.

I ended up getting two of these. I just bought some fresh herb and put them in yesterday. I pulled one nug to the side and put in a tightvac to compare.

Tightvac will dry out way really fast (within a week usually) even if you keep it closed.

As a comparison I put the humidpacks in both my tightvac and cvault at the same time. The cvaults humidpack after a couple weeks is like the day i put it in there, while the tightvacs humidipack is hard and rigid already. I didnt open either one during the experiment.

The result is somewhat predictable, as a reduction in the vapor pressure of water (partial vacuum) will pull water out of the material and humipack. The act of pulling water out and converting it to the gaseous state helps to reduce the negative pressure.

That makes a lot of sense actually. I just ordered some more humidipaks to use with other jars as well to compare to cvault.
