I always just miss these.....This is pretty much exactly what i have been looking for. I could kick myself for missing the pre order. A buddy just gave me a evic vtwo mini he wasnt using anymore so I could experiment with the whole 510 heater for my vapcap M, so if I can get ahold of one of these, I will be set. Please keep me or us updated on this as I will purchase one the same day its available to be purchased...

The Splinter looks interesting, and I'm sure it will have plenty of satisfied users. The ability, if I understand correctly, to pair it with the user's box mod of choice, will definitely have some appeal.

I think that I prefer the approach taken with the Tubo Evic though, as the dedicated box mod allows for temperature control, as opposed to wattage control. It does offer the option of wattage control, but I found it getting hotter and hotter with each draw, whereas with temp control, it holds it at a stable level until I choose to turn it up. Of course, I guess running at a steady wattage setting could be considered to be automatic temp-stepping, in all seriousness.

I've never seen a hot spot or one bit of even slightly charred material with the Tubo, while @Vape Dr.'s last video did show a little of both. Would using a second screen or elb cap on top of the load as most do with the Tubo, thereby diffusing the airflow, fix that?

VAS may require that I buy a Splinter and answer my own question. It seems to be a nice simple approach to regulated vaping, and looks plenty portable.

Ryan, I agree with most every point KenZero has made. I also understand the KISS mantra, or as Apple used to follow 'It just works'.

That being said, never give me a Rorschach test. Guess just my warped mind, but I keep thinking of Dolly Parton when I look at the present/rigid form factor now? Seems kind of 'top-heavy' IUKWIM...the hair, top-heavy from that huge head of hair, like a Bobblehead, going to tip over...looks like it would. And I cannot easily stuff it in my pocket, need to disassemble into 2 parts for portability/durability.

I cannot see why KenZero hasn't brought this up, bc while function should trump fashion/form, I would like to know how difficult it would be to change the design to accommodate side-by-side, instead of 'top-down'?...and I hope Ryan has already patented the heater design? If not, do a go fund me asap, as that is the most important IP that needs to be protected.

I see that e-cig mods are now going the 'fatty' route with atomizers going to upwards of 26mm girth in some cases, squat instead of taller to get more volume. Just wondering how difficult it would be to make the heater narrower to fit a side-by-side mod that is open/wide enough to take the heater, but still retain the functionality of a Zion/Milanna? Would likely need to ditch the wood :-( to get it that slim?

Need a optional glass piece to swap out the mouthpiece, so it can go directly into a water tool (ice only, in my case)

Saw some interesting mods in this unfortunate 'megathread' (lots of noise), 'fat/squat' form usually reserved for highest capacity tanks 3-6ml?:

https://www.cvapor.com/kanger-juppi...ss316-wires-powered-by-single-18650-cell.html

^only partial side-by-side, and I doubt a single 18650 is going to get 75w.

Can't find the model I was looking @last wk, had a plastic 'collar' to protect the tank from breakage, but it was fully side-by-side, just the tip of the tank above the height of the mod, form factor of a Crafty, without all the failings of the Crafty design

I'd like to order one- when preorders open again- mainly because I have liked everything RBT has made. It's listed as $109. Will that change when it's open again? Mainly I really don't understand from his description how it works. Can someone post a very simple description of how it would work compared to the milaana or tubo or something similar. Or if nothing is similar, just how it's used.

Think "Milaana hooked up to a mod". It gets it's own heater design - possibly two sizes available like smaller Milaana heater vs bigger Zion heater - and the rest you control thru your mod.

- can you set it to one, high voltage setting and hit just like a Milaana? Yes
- can you vary the voltage for Zion-style, upper-limit-management vaping? Yes
- can you use Temp Control? Apparently, yes, if your mod has the software

@little maggie : inside your Tubo, there's a mod (evic VTC mini by Joyetech, hence why it's called Tubo Evic) So you already know what they are. It's the brain and guts of modern electronic cigarettes. Since they standardized the connector (called 510) you can hook other attachments designed for dry herbs instead of e-liquid.

But nope, you won't be able to use your Tubo with the Splinter because it's encased in wood and locked down to its custom heater (you can't access the 510 port to put the Splinter in place) So you will need to get another mod and they cost $30-$40 shipped usually.

Do you happen to be dyslexic? Or did you deliberately misspell my nick twice? :lmao:

Problem with all "SBS" mod designs currently on the market is that they don't support attachments over 23mm diameter wide (some even only 22mm) The Project OG doesn't fit in two of my mods and I imagine it will be the same with the Splinter.

Unless of course it becomes a design goal to stay under 23mm. Once you start using SBS mods you can't go back. It feels so silly and out of proportion to have the attachment on the top, and it's so much worse when you have to put a long stem on top of the attachment like here or like in the Project.

Once I was using the Project "Eraser" (which is red silicone) on top of my red evic VTC mini, and a friend made the remark that it looked like a gadget to ignite gaz stoves:

Oh well you get the idea, the form factor is fugly...

Here are the 3 versions of the Project, OG, Eraser and Pure. See how the Pure looks better in the Smoant mod? And even more now that I'm using a shorter 14mm stem from the MistVape Touch.

Don't know how the JUPPI performs, have read mixed reviews. But sure you can get 75W out of a single cell, just need to use a real 30A discharge one (ex: LG HB6, Sony VTC-3)

- can you use Temp Control? Apparently, yes, if your mod has the software

Hm where did you get that answer? I might be wrong but I think RBT mesh heater doesn't work in TC mode. I asked the question already and the only answer I got was that TC mode was not needed...

You aren't wrong. The Splinter will not be implementing TC mode.

Right now, there are two prototypes: one uses the Milaana heater, the other uses the Zion heater. They have been sent around to a small group of testers, with the intent of determining which one should become the production design. It's clear that there is interest in a 14mm version, but as far as I know for production simplicity there will only be an 18mm version for now.

I had a limited time to try the two versions. It was not long enough to draw firm conclusions, but the results were encouraging. I used two different mods with them, and it's obvious that the mod you choose makes a difference in the voltage setting but not the overall outcome. The production Splinter should deliver Zion-like performance regardless of the heater RBT eventually uses.

Just read the blog and it sounds like the zion one is better. I do hope this will not be too complicated. I love my tubo but I'm still struggling with adjusting the software even though it doesn't seem like anyone else is having problems with it.
And can someone explain what a timber cannon is even though that's not the focus of this thread.

Basically I believe it's 2 battery unregulated vape with the bigger Zion heater but tuned hotter than the Milaana for super cloud chasing.

Preorders are being accepted. I informed Ryan of some issues with checkout. It probably explains the lack of preorder sales but I'll say it right now there could be a number of other valid reasons as well.

And YES it's US only! I know someone from down under posted they bought but I suspect there is a refund in your future.

At some point maybe this will change but I personally believe it's the right decision for Ryan right now.

I know I ask stupid questions- it's a good thing my interests are limited to only a few threads. But I went to RBT's store and can't find where to preorder. Can someone post a link?

I imagine you type accept and then add to cart and check out? Idk exactly.
Yes @little maggie that's exactly what you have to do.

See above. You had to type ACCEPT for US only shipping on this particular product. Maybe that was overlooked or maybe you were hoping for an exception........

I placed my order. Not sure what kind of box mod to get or where but I have months to figure that out. Hopefully the box mod won't be too complicated or too expensive. I looked at a few and they started around $60 and went up quite a bit from there. Maybe RBT will offer one on his website when the splinter is ready.
