Captainhits- I have to give you and your Ebay store a big thumbs up! I ended up winning one of those auctions for a pollen press for a very nice price! :)

Do all Space Cases have "Space Case" etched into the top of it? I ask because I recently picked up what my shop told me was a Space Case 3 piece grinder with pollen collector. And they sold me on it claiming it was made in USA and I wouldn't see any metal shavings blah blah blah. I'm like stonemonkey in that if you amortize the cost over its lifespan, its worth it. But anyway, what's the verdict of the name brand not being etched on it? I paid around 45 dollars for it and it most likely a mid size.

As far as I know , yes , they all have SPACE CASE (r) etched on them. If they sold you one that didn't then they probably lied and you got sold a space case like grinder... They also don't come in 3 piece. They make a 2 piece , 4 piece (1 screen) and 5 piece grinders (2 screens).

The case I have has the grinder part on the top. Then you can unscrew just below the grinding part where the ground product goes. Then you can also unscrew just below that area and collect the kief just below the ground product compartment.

Does that sound like a 3 piece or 4 piece?

4 piece, and sounds like you may have been sold a Cosmic. Does it have a "coin edge" pattern on the top and bottom sections?

Yes, it has a coin looking edge... like a nickel. Is this a good case?

I've got no issues with mine.. If I ever need another, I'd prob get a space case. If the threads are anything like the threads on the SC pollen press, they are better machined. Smoother action and less likely to cross-thread. I did that with my cosmic when I was high.. works the same though.

Yes. If the bottom is not etched with "Space Case" its a knockoff. :(
    Space Case makes a 2, 3, and 4 piece grinder. No 5 piece with 2 screens. ;)

    Thanks!! :D

Me too, cap'n. Big thanks! I love my new small titanium Space Case. There was some debate here or in the grinders thread about the color of the titanium. This is definitely purple, I'd call it a dark and smoky purple. It's beautiful. Grinds like a champ, too. Just a few twists and the herbs are perfect. I can't believe I've never owned a grinder before. More surface area definitely=fuller hits. :ko:

Glad you're grinding is going smoothly! Yes, going from non ground to ground is nite and day! The purple tinge must have been on a particular batch, (possibly a slightly shorter anodizing time) as they definitely don't have a purple tinge now. It's possible SC has since increased the anodizing time to acheive the exact shade they're looking for. The present color would be considered solid black to very dark grayish black.

the anodized coating is a chemical coating that prevents the oxidation of aluminum. Many years ago I used to worked in aerospace and use to anodized aluminum in a chemical bath.

didn't pick up a grinder but a large disk type stash case instead. i've been eyeing one of those for a few days and haven't found an alternative as big as the space case alrge (about 3 inches wide). if space case made a taller/wider cylindrical stash case, i'd have picked one of those up too. oh well.

anyway, bought it from the ebay store and forgot the fc coupon. messaged Brendon via e-bay though.

    i'm excited!

EDIT: just received my stash box today. very very good quality, i could not be more impressed!

I also have a SC stash "puck" mines the Med size. it's very elegant and looks fantastic. I also got the Med 2 pc Ti grinder.

I have a small suggestion to make to this pairing of products. I was bitching about how the stash case cannot be mated to transfer from one to the other. then I went to show him and by golly it worked! i felt a bit of fool. What happened was the first time i used the bottom part of the stash case to connect with the inner diameter grinder piece. the 2nd time, i used the top half of the stash lid and with it being slightly larger diamer this time it fits! (this is great for a flip and tap easy transfer.)

My beef is this: the threads are on the top part(the part that fits over the grinder lip) this means that when i transfer to my stash lid and dump it into the other half of the stash lid, crystal is gonna get into the threads. If it was the other part of the stash lid that fit then this issue would be taken care of already. If i'm at home I can use a a small brush to clear the threads before i screw it back together. but out on the road this is not going to be an option and I can see the threads getting dirty pretty quickly. iso will take care of it i guess.

very minor gripe I know, but I think it's a small improvement they could do.

I've gone from some cheap grinders to a two-piece Cosmic which I had used for several years. Recently I wanted to try a four-piece and I got pushed on a Sharpstone with a crank which I managed to break within a few months of heavy use where the crank lever just tugged right off. However, I did find that I preferred four piece simply for the cleaner workflow as originally I was using a funnel stuck into small jars while emptying my two piece.

Anyway, long story short I just bought a medium four-piece titanium Space Case today. The grind action on it is easily the best I've used, however the top grind piece fits a /smidge/ loose which combined with the very solid black color made me a bit concerned I might have purchased a knock-off. My Cosmic fits perfectly together and it's obvious the pieces were machined to be mated together. Mind you, so far I like this new grinder the best out of all of the ones I've owned but I'm needlessly concerned none the less that I might have been ripped.

Any expects willing to chime in if they think what I have is legit?

To get into details of what it is I own, sans photo: The coloring is pretty solid black which I wasn't expecting and it's stamped 'Space Case (r)' and 'Made in USA' on the top grinding piece. There's nothing else etched on it, however the top and bottom pieces both have a ridged grip made up of rows of dot-like pits. The top has two additional thin bands running along the circumference just beneath the grip. There's a light gray teflon gasket that runs along the lip of the second piece in the stack, which the grinder piece sits atop of.

EDIT: Thanks biojuggernaut! That's a relief, even though I already love this grinder either way.

I can confirm that. The darker color was an update and the way it fits is exactly correct. Its allows free turning movement but stays in place with the neodymium magnet.

Captainhits why aren't those Space Case sifters you have on spacecasegrinders.com I have never heard of them before and they really caught my eye since I use a 2 pc now.

i wish they could combine the 2 finishes that they offer as i love the regular aluminum finish on the outside but prefer an anodized interior for its non stick properties on the inside.

That is not my site its gratefulbuys.com. That is just a Canadian operated site owned by someone who sells space case. The sifter cases however have been out of production for some time. They will probably bring them back in the future but I cannot say if or when. :peace:

BTW if you are referring to the top fitting loose as in not flush with the grinder than the magnet may not be imbedded far enough. If that's the case it could be replaced under the lifetime warranty.

Recently I got my first grinder...can't believe how many years I went just using a small scissors to "grind". I got the spacecase small scout.

    http://www.spacecasegrinders.com/space-case-scout-grinder-small/

It's excellent at what it does, it's beautiful, and I like it a lot. But after a few weeks, carrying it in pocket, I notice that everything it touches is getting a silver grey smudge from touching it. It's aluminum-not anodized :(. So, I put some tape on parts of it that rub a lot. Not pretty, but does the job.

My concern is what's going on inside! I've heard concerns about getting shavings of plastic or metal in the plant material with cheap grinders. But, should I be concerned that this same fine aluminum powder is rubbing off into the ground material.

The other day I read a post from someone who had an aluminum grinder for years and he noticed that the teeth were starting to round off a bit over time. The same worries came to mind to me as well, since I've recently started using a similar 2 part aluminum grinder myself. Mine looks exactly like the Space Case ones but it says Black Leaf on top. Mine shows no wear on the outside but I'm still worried if it's safe to use or that it's better to go back to my old SS shark teeth grinder (which doesn't really grind to well to be honest).

I'm not to worried about vaping aluminum flakes, but I also eat my AVB :o

Well I got a space case 4pc aluminum mid sized without the magnet in it. Picked it up many years ago at a LHS and am curious if it might be considered a "Colletors Item" these days? It still does the trick though and no rounded teeth( I try not to grind Tree trunks in it) :D .

Reciently I also obtained the 2pc med aluminum grinder and the Med aluminum Stash Case By space case. very nice grinder But Since Im using seeded regs I dont like the 2pc for nugget grindage since it pulverizes them. The medium Stash case is about the same size of a 35mm film container its replacing for portable stealth use.

Just sent out my 4pc med aluminum SC out for warranty replacement yesterday. Damn screen came away from the sidewall due to too many close scrapings with that stupid guitar pick that comes with it. Took awhile to find out who, where, how, to contact/ find the elusive SC people. Called them and they sent email with where to send and told me to include $8.00 u.s. for return shipping. Will give further feedback upon arrival of replacement. Hopefully a new one, not some frankenstein one pieced together from other returns.

Also tried to "upgrade" to one of the new darker black 4pc med, same as mine just black. They said no go even though I offered to pay any difference. Oh well.
