    Why?

As long as you don't agree to some of what some require (You believe in a church of whatever, you join them in their endeavor, etc.), I don't see how buying from a taxed/licensed source is a different legal position than buying from your neighbor. The seller's criminal law position changes; but, the buyer's?

I'll have to look at the use tax laws to see if they have addressed the changes with regulated/legal yet so I suppose you might need to pay a use tax on your annual tax return. Just like you do when you buy something over the internet who didn't collect the sales tax for your state in the transaction.

I think in Santa Ana it's more of a supply problem than a compliance problem, though both are contributing. SA bans commercial cultivation so they have to rely on farmers in other areas of the state that are also seeing increased demand. I can't think of anywhere in OC that licenses grows but maybe I'm wrong.

Prices up in LA aren't nearly as bad. Jungle Boys raised their out the door price on an eighth by $2 to $47 ($53 if you are recreational), and have ASCND at $75. I can't find anywhere in SA to get them for less than $70 plus tax (~$90). I guess I'll just buy bigger quantities and go up to LA for the time being. Longer drive but it makes up for it in value.

Lately, I'm been going to OC3 off of Halladay. They are still prop 215 only. I am trying to use prop 215 dispensary only. I have even done a few deliveries if I know the brand name of the wax I'm getting at the normal price

I stay away from prop 64 places or places that are both. As they charge crazy taxes.

I have tried out a few new places in OC recently. If you have medical, there are a few storefront dispensaries that have decent deals and FTP depending on what you are looking for.

I last picked up at Super Clinik East, and I think I'll be going here from now on. They charge 13.75% or 15.75% tax on top of menu prices on WM depending on medical or rec, and they sell flower in 5g eighths. FTP is 15% off, so you get a few dollars off menu price out the door if you are medical. They are running a special on Select and Jetty cartridges BOGO 1/2 off, which is pretty nice if you like those brands. Comes out to about $45/g which is pretty good for clean concentrate pens, I like them especially at that price. I liked the selection of products, they carry Russian Assassin Boyz flower which I think is pretty great quality. Their happy hour is "tax free tuesday" on flower products, and also applies 8am-10am and 8pm-10pm.

I also tried Cookies OC which gives medical patients a free gram if you spend over a certain amount. I wouldn't pick up here regularly due to the price of the flower, but it was nice to try their flower when I was picking up a cartridge in a pinch.

10 Spot is worth a shot if you're in the area for the three $10 top shelf eighths (I think it's one for rec). They're not the best quality ever, but it has increased over time as Rich Ninja (their head grower) has tried to build a name for himself. They even have a CBD dominant strain available if you need that.

Tried Bud and Bloom which had OK prices (the WM prices include tax) for medical, you get 10% off the menu price as a base price and there was some FTP deal as well. I thought the products were kind of stale, the THC Design FutureBerries flower I got in particular seemed very old. Not recommended overall while there are better options around.

ok, it would seem now would be a good time to refresh this question?

Prop64, the numerous delays since Jan 1, the grow tax, excise tax, sales tax (unless you get a State med ID card and forego your rights to owning a firearm <can't wait for THAT lawsuit!>)... the fires, the predictable shift of manufacturer's distribution towards the recreational market, more delays...

The shop I've dealt with for years is now a mess, 'cause they are waiting on their recreational license and can't get many of the products they used to carry (plus the products that haven't yet received THEIR licenses, approved packaging, etc.). Definitely affecting them as they close in on 6 months of limbo.

Some of my favorite products, in edibles in particular were 1000mg Best of Both Worlds brownies from Kaneh Co... those days are gone for medical patients :(
EVERYTHING is limited to 100mg and has to either be pre-scored for 10mg doses or provide a template for dividing the product into 10mg doses.
Personally my dose is 200-300mg, can you imagine how much sugar I'd have to eat to achieve that with 10mg doses??? With help, I can make my own edibles that easily hit my dose in 1/64 of a 9x9 pan of brownies (think cheese on a toothpick). BIG difference between the amount of sugar in that and in 2 big dark chocolate bars (same dose).

But to do that, I would normally use my favorite CO2 oils, but they are awaiting their own licensing for their new manufacturing facility. So I've been looking around on weedmaps and leafly...
    Effin' depressing.
ALMOST EVERYTHING is one of those stupid little vape-pen cartridges that I loathe... hot, harsh, and generally unpleasant.

Compounding this, shops are lax in their descriptions, pictures, etc. So you may THINK you're getting 1 gram of CO2 oil, but come to discover, it is yet another damn cartridge. I was so excited, thinking I'd found Trainwreck, GSC and Grape Ape! :(

Can any of you orange county folk point me at a reliable, knowledgeable, reasonably priced, helpful operation/staff with the kind of product I'm looking for? I will also entertain wax/shatter as long as it's purged correctly. I also use Clean Green Certified Organic flower, and some nice kief would be icing on the cake.

What I wouldn't give to be up in Oregon right now... $50 z's, too much production, not enough medical varietals tho.

This shit is all fucked up in California. I miss prop 215. The taxes are outrageous.
If you like oil but not in carts, check out the Dabaratus as you make like this pen. Its a gram of oil in a syringe pen with a button that clicks to dispense. You cannot smoke out of it as you need a nail or banger. Its a distillate dispenser and fairly heavy. I believe available at a few places in OC that i have seen. I got it once to mess around and ended up just putting it on flower and vaping it in the flowerpot showerhead. I am not a fan of dabbing distillates.

If you are ok with Sauce, i would recommend Raw Gardens for $40-50 a gram which is available at many dispensary in Santa Ana. Best bang for the buck!

Like @Shooby stated, everything is messed up for medical. I think once the roll out happened in January, they completely mismanaged supply and demand, outrageously marking things up. Now that traffic has eased, they are dropping prices but the taxes make everything expensive again. I think there will be another price drop by years end, as foot traffic in dispensaries is definitely dropping.

The prices are all over the place here in SD. Top shelf flowers are still 400 an oz, yet hash rosin and live resin sauce is like half the price it was just a few months ago. From $200 down to $100/g on hash rosins, and 35-50 a g for sauce which was all of $80-$100 a gram recently.

What i hate is how the tax rate is different at nearly all dispensaries. They all tell you a different reason for the tax rate. I have seen it as low as 13% and as high as 29% depending on store and not the city. Thats just crazy.

Also, some places charges more tax for extract than flowers. Was even told by one dispensary that they already paid tax on the flowers so all flowers are tax free. But if i want extract, i have to pay 21% tax.

Is prop 215 being replaced by prop 64 by the end of the year or next? I see a bunch of deliveries that are prop 215 only but all stores has become prop 64.

    **Edit**
Hash Rosin here from Hash House is still about $160 a gram. Flower rosin is about $100. Those prices hasnt changed here. Sauce just took a $10 drop this past week as all Raw Gardens limited sauce is now $40 as well instead of $50.

For flowers, I have been looking for some tasty stuff. Looking on IG for growers like Jungle Boys and THC Designs. Recently, im stuck on Russian Assassin Boyz and they go for 5 grams for $56 Out the door which has been the best bang for the buck for some nice looking and tasting flower through the flowerpot.

I have been going to HCMA in Sun Valley since they opened a few months ago. They have some good $15 1/8’s. I only get the CC OG or exclusive OG on the $15 shelf though everything else looks hella mids . It comes out to $78 for a 1/2 oz out the door after tax. They usually have 3.5g of CC OG shatter for $50 plus tax.

    -=-

Prime example of each city trying to maximize their tax yield, the fact that every level is also milking patients infuriates me :(

I have to learn more beyond the flower/kief/concentrate/live resin... not sure I want terps thrown in willy nilly, especially if they are synthetic.
Played around with CBD and THCa distillate, vapes ok, but nada sublingually.
Now to go learn more about 'sauce'.

Agree regarding the taxes. Consistency would be nice but the reality is a patchwork where even in the same city you get a range of rates. Very frustrating as a patient. Can't we just legalize the damn plant at the federal level already and get some real consistency and legitimacy? We're pretty much agreed across party lines now. It should be like going to the liquor store or tobacco shop but healthier.

Let alone the pricing, I'll be shocked if the state is ready to enforce testing requirements by July, at least in a real sense. I actually got into a very amusing Instagram argument with @therealbrassknucklesog_ regarding their product consistently testing dirty in independent testing, wherein they tried to blame the labs and specifically said that "pesticide testing is the most difficult of all". I doubt this claim in a general sense but especially coming from one of the lowest quality brands in the industry.

Kurvana also deleted some test results showing 400+ ppm xylenes and had a different batch of the products retested at a different lab to cover it up. I expected better from them. They proceeded to also blame the labs in their response on Weedmaps, saying false positives are common in residual solvent testing and they decided to switch to a more reliable lab. Adding to the confusion you have some labs like Steep Hill weighing in saying other labs aren't up to standards with respect to training and equipment and that lots of producers just shop around until they test clean. I doubt the state will have it all under control in a few months given the rollout of prop 64. Hard to know who to trust as a patient in the end between the myriad licensed producers and labs.

Personally I was not impressed with THC Design, though I only tried one strain by them (Future Berries). Perhaps it was an old eighth (the Boveda pack in the jar seemed pretty hard) but it wasn't very memorable. The Jungle Boys and the RA Boyz are better quality growers for the money in my opinion.

I got it for that price at Super Clinik but they don't have any by them right now. Last I saw on IG they have been making drops at Arts District Cannabis Club in LA which they may or may not run themselves. Would be curious where they're stocked in OC though.

I think it is not just a city difference, but a complexity of the code difference.

They are not going to get it fixed (If there is such a thing.) until it becomes clear professionals don't put their licenses at any risk if they work in the industry. They need many services, but one is accounting. Believe me when I say you don't know how many beans are out there unless you have a person to count them.

Have you tried to estimate tax costs when at a dispensary? It's hard. In fact, it is impossible without knowing more facts than an average patient about the particular item(s) being purchased. I think the first few state audits by the cannabis authorities will be interesting. I also think that if the audits show some dispensary(s) tax collected as too high, they'll find some way to not return it to me. (Even though there is a computer record of exactly how much tax I paid.) Government is just another name for what we choose to do together.

ok, so poking around on weedmaps and leafly...
here's the list of syringe (NOT CARTRIDGE) concentrate manufacturers distributed in so cal:

    Stiiizy

    THClear Co

    OC Pharm

    Naked THC

    Flav

    California Dab Company

    Honey Vape

    Space Nugs

Next time I'll be more organized (hah!), and have their URL's and technology/process info.
(brain dead right now) I recall that at least a couple of them were multi-fractional distillation processes,

Any of you have experience with their concentrate/distillates?

This past week I visited the only location that had lab tested stuff according to Weedmaps (staggering)...
I'll grumble about the staff later.

Bought a half dozen grams of distillate from OCPharm, some edibles from OMG, a LiquidGold Dark Chocolate Bar... sadly, while they had cartridges GALORE, I couldn't buy a syringe of CBD, and they generally didn't seem to know that much about any of their product :(

I called ahead to make sure they had a good selection, apparently 12-15 including multiple dupes is 'a bunch')... I'm still paying for that trip out (oh, and their idea of ADA compliance is pretty laughable).
I should have known when there wasn't a sign up... I figured, new location (they have another)... but I think one of a ton of 'rogue shops' around O.C.

Still making up my mind on the OCPharm stuff, it's less viscous than the PopNaturals CO2 oil I normally buy, supposed to use multi-fractionate distillation and maintain terps... been using it on both my DivineTribe v3 and the new DivineTribe Quartz Quest atomizers.
Was going to save it up for baking, but have been forced to vape a bunch... shoulda bought more edibles. The OMG stuff was ok, the LiquidGold bar was great and the Kaneh stuff was excellent as usual, sadly, there won't be 2017 stock of 1000mg brownies forever :(

Looking at the other products these folks had in syringes (dabblicators?), they largely appeared to be flavored (ack!), but that appears to be increasingly common in this space? (shudder)

OK, there is a place that delivers who seems in bed with the THClear folks (that could be a good or bad thing, I dunno what their products are like yet)... anyone wanna weigh in with experiences with THClear distillates and edibles?

    ok, wrapping up my rant...

the 'budtender' I got was a young lady who didn't even look to be 21, who was snarky with me out of the gate (to the greybeard in the wheelchair), and grew increasingly so when in frustration I pointed out that in her position she should know more than just 'indica, sativa or hybrid'.

You might consider some of the Raw Garden stuff, they are Clean Green certified. IMO a single pass extraction is a more complete cannabinoid spectrum than distillates too.

Raw Garden... I'll go look 'em up. I'm a big proponent of Clean Green Certified grows! Thanks!
That's why I was such a fan of PopNaturals, a good mix of compounds from each strain.
Hoping they get their new manufacturing facility certified soon.
