Hi all, I'm a total vapor newb and first time poster on the fuck combustion forums. After lurking for a few days, this place has really educated me on vaporizers. I've used the volcano dozens of times, and always loved the clear tasty hits that it made, but i don't think the price is fair and i find it a hassle to use. I've decided to quit smoking tobacco once again after 15 years, and Friday will be my first smoke free day. As such, I want to start consuming my buds with vaporizers and edibles as opposed to bong rips and joints.

Right now I'm completely torn between the silver surfer and the extreme vaporizers as I'm sure others are. The SSV has almost proven itself to be a worthy unit based on this video alone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG0xQXCevRA - those rich juicy hits have almost sold me. However, after watching many (promotional :( ) videos of the extreme, it looks like it could be able to deliver the same hits with the whip, but I have yet to see any decent videos of it in action. Also, because the whip can freely rotate around the top, the extreme looks like it would be much more convenient to use, especially with several people. Although the remote and lights are a bit much I think, I really like the options and warranty. BeingCanadian built is also a bonus to me. I just don't want to walk away paying ~$100 more for fancy options when I'm not going to get as good of hits as with the SSV. But if the hits are on par with the SSV, the added convenience alone will be worth the extra cost to me.

I plan on getting one of these 2 vaporizers, and also an iolite on Friday as a commitment to myself so time is of the essence  I'd like to hear anyones opinions on the extreme, especially those that have also used the SSV. Thanks in advance, and sorry if this thread is in the wrong forum. :D

edit: I also wanted to know how easy it is to repack the bowl in the extreme. It looks like it could be a pain in the ass to deal with the bowls as they appear to attach directly to the heat core.

    hi there,

just registered in this forum to share my opinion(had been a long time reader in the background). i was in the same situation - deciding between those two. i already have a vulcano calssic but i really was interessted  in whipstyle-vapes too. after all i took the E(just the v-tower), because an SSV had to be ordered overseas as i live in germany. and that would be much more expensive than ordering a v-tower from any reseller here in germany. now that i have my v-tower i think it can do the same thick vapor rich hits than an SSV. as i've never used an SSV but when i compare the videos on youtube to my setup(v-tower attached to bong). the vapor looks pretty the same to me(when elbowpacking the v-tower not using the hurricanebowl). i can't say anything about taste but it surely works good and tastes good(for me). it's much denser vapor than in my vulcano. sometime the vapor seems even that dense, that i think that has to be somke and some of my herbs must have been burned. but that was never the case. the herbs were just slightly brown to dark brown and no burned smell. now that i have my v-tower i couldn't imagine how the SSV could serve me better.:2c:

i "only" have the v-tower so i can't say anything about blowning bags with the E as i use my cano for this. :ninja: my2cents: go with the E.

    greetings

If you have a volcano, you already have the best, imo, bag unit on the market. Then I would go for the ssv...the best whip unit on the market, imo.

If you only want to hit the whip and have no use for bags, I would recommend the ssv. The hits are the thickest I have ever had. The E can get thick hits, just not quite as thick as the ssv.

For a vapor noob, I would recommend the E, especially if you don't know what you want in delivery methods. The E is only $50 more than the ssv at retail and you get a lot more options. You can find them closer than that in price if you want.

I would say they are about equal in the efficiency department for whip use.

Thanks for all the kind replies. I think I'm going to take my chances on the extreme. Anyone know of a vapor lounge, etc in Vancouver that lets you use them? :p

Thx for the sharing ! really good ! :)

So now I am hesitating, between the E-Q, the SSV and the PD> Thx ! :D
ANd it seems hard to decide, I am looking for strong hits, but I like to have the fan option for whenever I feel to lazy.

Well, I am in no hurry so I'll keep lurking around. It's just really to bad I am the only vapist I know of so there is no way for me to try one. In France 95 % of the people don't even know vaping :/

Raf007, since you already have a volcano and the ssv is on your list, I would scratch the Extreme off the list. If I wanted a bag/whip vape in one, I would get the Extreme. But if I had bags already covered in a volcano, then I would get the best whip unit I could...silver surfer, imo.

The PD is amazingly efficient and is my most used vape. I could get by on the PD and SSV alone for a looooong time.

    Thx !!

So which one would you go for, SSV or PD ? :D

Also, the reason I consider buying the EQ, is the Cano's noise, i m so over the noise when I watch tv, and I don't honestly know how my GF, who doesn't vape, tolerates it every night and day.
Also I was ready to sell my Cano when I get a EQ, do you think that would be a mistake ?

    depends on what you want:

    big hits -- ssv
    efficiency -- pd

You could get an EQ and just sell your cano, or keep your cano, and buy a SSV or DB. Honestly I would sell your cano, for a decent price, and then you can buy both with the cano money lol.

yeah maybe you're right Konrad, but as I never try any of those, I am a bit afraid of regretting my choice.
Especially that I bought the Cano 6 years ago and it was a bit more expensive than now.

Especially that some time I can be a bit clumsy, and all those glass pieces are so fragile...

Plus, money pb aside, I don't mind having a few vapes, coz when I am with my friends, 1 vape is not enough !

@Stickstones: What if I want big hits and efficiency ? :D
Btw Thx again for all your answers !

at that point im afraid you need to forget that youre clumsy and invest in some glass. all those heat wands going (vhw, herborizer, de verdamper and the extreme if you ask me) will kill you with hit size, then modify the bowl a little to take less weed and off you go. out into space

I've dropped my stirring tool, and the bowl onto my carpet, and they are fine. I don't think they broke easily, but I remember reading someone break 3 pieces in one night, I don't know how you do that lol.

It's really your choice, I would talk to people who have all these vapes, and see what they like. I don't use enough bud to vape that much, but I get some pretty crazy highs with my E.

ok THX guys, well, i'll go with glass then, plus, I am not Too clumsy, only once in a while ;)

And Konrad, now I m really thinking of selling the Cano as you said, and buy the EQ and SSV, but I so sentimental ...:D

by their nature, big hits and efficiency are opposites.

not necessarily in my experience, its all down to matching the style of bowl to the style of heating element to get as close as possible to the ideal. for instance, on the extreme the heat exits through a very small hole, so if you make a bowl that is close to the size of the hole (i hate rhymes) then you will have big hits matched with efficiency.

Certainly you can make any vape more efficient, but I was referring to the issue of big hits being wasteful due to exhaled thc. I still love 'em, but they are wasteful.

ahhhhhh isnt that the truth. i always mean to get some yoga tips for deep breathing and breath holding but hell if i ever get round to it, bloody stoners

to combat the huge exhales i sometimes stuff a load of weed into a tube and exhale all over that, or at least exhale a bit into the stash jar. probably doesnt do much but whatever, it might be better than nothing. or even better, put them directly in the path of the vapour (for instance in a wand but behind the loading area). pretty sure i stole this idea from one of tokins videos. hes a clever man it seems

Indeed they are, but there is a middle in between somewhere, and I feel more than I know that I m missing it with the Cano when I look for efficiency and big hits.

Expect if I exhale back in the balloon, then I can take out more thc and more big hits.

Thx to the posts on that matter btw.

I mean it's up to you. I am very happy with my Extreme, and I have gotten some really nice rips off of it. I know it's not the same as the SSV that can do it 239021839021830120392 times in a row, but hey each vape has their goods and bads. I should prob make a video of the rips I get sometimes :).

yes, I know it's up to me :D, and after some readings, It looks like a godd idea, but anyhow, as said, i think i'm to sentimental to sell my cano right away, and I am in no hurry, but yes my mind balance between those.

Just wanted to weigh in real quick:

My first vaporizer I ever bought was the Purple Daze. It still hasn't arrived, but if I was going to start vaping I wanted what was the best for me, in my situation, and that is definitely the PD (as I feel it should be for most people).

The first vaporizer I ever got was the Da Buddha. Quite cheap and it is incredible efficient; I actually prefer it to its sister-model Silver Surfer. I see it as being one of the best vaporizers you can get for personal vaping; a word of warning, however, is that its greatness rapidly falls as more people want to participate.

Update: I got my Extreme Q today. right now i'm in the process of doing some decent end user video testing and planning on putting it on youtube. i'll update you guys when i'm done if you like. here's a mini review that i've put together..

The customer service was very responsive and friendly as i inquired about the new model and i placed my order through arizer on friday afternoon. it got to my neighbour's door in first thing wednesday morning. after i got a call from him letting me know it was here, i watched the clock for the next 8 hours till i got home. the box came well packaged and included the extra bowl, whip and screen kits that i ordered, as well as a few more extra free screens. i made sure not to damage the packaging so that the unit can be shipped or stored again. if arizer had some sort of case or carrying bag listed on their site i probably would have bought that too. the only complaint i had up till this point was that the shipping could have been a little more discrete. for example, giving my email address to canada post, and the outer box showing a picture of exactly what was inside. it was however labelled as an aroma therapy device, which is essentially what is is i guess. i do wish that i was able to find it to test, or even buy in a local shop, but i guess thats the price you pay whenever you want bleeding edge technology.

So far i've used the whip and the bag with 3 friends i had over who wanted to check it out. they've all used both volcanos and the iolite. and they were all totally impressed by this thing from start to finish. we were all shocked at the quality and quantity of vapor this machine can produce. it seems to vaporize the dry yet sticky buds i had very throughly and efficiently. i was able to quickly find an effective temperature judging by the taste of the vapor and the color of the vapo poop when it was done.

We started with the whip hits which were absolutely insane. i found between 230C and 240 delivers the best hits, 230-235 seemed to work great with the 4 of us using it. we had the unit placed in the middle of the coffee table which we were basically sitting around anyway, so the 360 rotation of the elbow joint worked perfectly for this occasion, it was just like passing a doob. 235-240 seems to work the best when slowly hooting away by myself. this unit is able to deliver one hell of a hit, and i caught myself coughing a few times just from the sheer volume of vapor coming out. i've been a daily bong smoker for almost 7 years now, and i can honestly say this thing kicked my ass, without any of the hacking fits i normally got when i smoked. another thing i found with the whip is that it's obvious right away when the herbs are finished cooking. at what ever temperature i used, i found i got nice tasty rich hits and then nothing as soon as it was done, which tells me that it's vaping the herbs perfectly. i found a neat technique to mising the bowl, when hitting with the whip, try to hit gently so as not to pull too much herb to the top screen, and every 3 or 4 hoots, take a quick fast pull to such the herbs up then lightly blow back pushing it back down and it will cycle around in the process. this works great with finely ground herb, but you might want to make sure you blow out the heating core with compressed air every now and then if you do this. this unit did not fail to impress me, even after contemplating the ssv. i'm not in any hurry to see the ssv now since this unit delivers all the vapor i can handle, and then some. the hits can be as light or rich as you like, and always manages to be quite cool when it gets to the end of the whip. a proper whip vaporizer like this is now my preferred method of delivery.

As far as we were concerned, the bagged vapor is at least on par with the volcano. leakage is not an issue if you hold the bag upright by the stem, and i found the whole bag process much easier and more effective than with the volcano. thats not to say i don't like the volcano anymore, i still think it's an excellent machine, it's just not worth the cost to me. the first bag we tested filled up like champ, you could not see through it, it was just white. but, i think i had it a bit too warm at 245 and a medium fan, but it still tasted great and hit the spot none the less. there wasn't much left of bowl after that, so i changed the herbs and filled up another 2 bags at 235, and they were both pretty damn good too. i won't be using the bags that much, but i know they will come in handy for many occasions. the only issue I had with this unit so far was my own doing. i pushed the bag stem way too far into the tubing and i had a hell of a time getting it off. i eventually rubbed a little vegetable oil on it, and pushed the tube off with the dull edge of a knife. the next few bags i only pushed it in about 1/4" and it held on great when it was filling, and came off by hand pretty easily as well.

This unit and all the accessories is probably the best $350 i've ever spent. it works great, and i'm confident it will serve a long and useful life. the unit fits in anywhere, on my desk while i play counterstrike source, it works great on the coffee table or in a party like atmosphere, and it will be great on the patio during the summer. i can honestly recommend this vaporizer to anyone. it's less than half the cost as the volcano, and sports more features, and it's still only marginally more expensive than other vaporizers with very basic feature sets. this is easily the best bang for your buck vaporizer that i've ever seen, and should be able to meet the needs of even the most demanding vapeheads.
