Saving Herb?

Just started vaping about 2 months ago and thought I'd save some herb but I seem to be using about twice as much. I think I'm just vaping more because I like it more. Anyone else notice a tendency to use more stash?

I am who I am and your approval isn't needed!
I found it so in the beginning, but that only last a few weeks for me...... Then I found that I only end up using about a 1/3 (if not slightly more), of what I was combusting full time.

I think the problem is that I have the whip in my mouth about 75% of the day. LOL. Not a bad thing I guess.

the more you toke the more you need to toke. been using a crazy small amount in a lotus vape and sometimes a glass VG. about 10 pieces of ground material in the bowl and one hit is all it takes. tried smoking more but didn't get any higher imo, just a waste of weed. also notice the morning buzz isn't as intense with one hit. if i smoke more the next days hangover is more intense and lasts longer. not exactly what i'm looking for. on weekends if the sesh is earlier say around 8 or 9pm its better. usually have to wait until 11 pm to toke on the other days. going on a year and the one toke/night still fries my brain.

not complaining about the low T. saves a bunch of $$$. granted this is all top shelf. maybe with mids things would be different. haven't had any of this type of weed in years. just a super light weight i guess lol

Been doing some reading on the forums here and I discovered it may be my vaporizer. I have a Vaporite solo and from what I've read in the thread on the Solo it has a appetite for lots of herb. Size of the whip and other factors from what others have said in the thread. But, like I said, I've been doing a LOT of vaping.

dude, at the beginning you'd probably tend to use a bit more in your quest for vaporizing wisdom (also because it's fun....). and yes, sometimes i like to see big vapor exhale, so maybe i load a bit more. but over time as you get used to your usage pattern, maybe might to consider what they say on this thread http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/have-we-been-using-cannabis-wrong.7065/#post-275307

kinda like what poochka is saying "the more you toke the more you need to toke. been using a crazy small amount... going on a year and the one toke/night still fries my brain.

Alright. I've been vaping for several months now and am going through a HUGE amount of herb. Almost enough to turn me back to the bong. Help me out, as I think it's my whip/vaporizer combo that is at fault. When I load a small amount of herb it just falls down no matter how much I try to pack it against the screen. The bowl on the two piece whip is huge and the vaporizer is a Vaporite Solo. Is there a better vape combo out there that might save me some herb? I'm going broke vaping, but I love it.

First, even if you use more now than you did when you were burning it, you're better off. Smoke contains some really nasty stuff that just isn't in vapour. Stick with it.

Second, if your weed doesn't stay packed then it might not be the best quality. Good quality herb has enough stickiness to hold in place, even if it's been dried thoroughly.

Third, the Vaporite Solo is a box-style vapourizer, and this type of device is not known for conserving. There are a lot of alternatives that will encourage you to use less, but of course only if you don't increase your sessions because you like it so much. You have to decide what you really want and that can get complicated. I've written an article for Vape World about the things to consider: Vape World Vaporizer Buying Guide. I hope this helps, and VW is a great place to buy your next vapourizer.

This is a long post, so here is a

quick summary

I once suffered from the same sadness that ails you. But there is a solution: I learned to bend screens and place them wherever I want in the vape tube.

You may need to buy a smaller whip. Here is how to tune the whip size and screen position:

1.) Choose a whip whose air path will be covered just completely with one layer of shake when you are packing the SMALLEST bowl you will ever want to vape.
2.) I place my screens so far down the tube that on the highest setting on the box vape, the largest bowl that I will ever want to pack gets only just as dark as I will tolerate (not very).

The Vapor Bros Tube is sufficiently narrow on the bulk of its body so that I didn't have to buy another whip once I figured this out. You might get lucky like this, too.

There is a very important relationship between whip size and bowl size.

Get a smaller whip, and by smaller I mean one that has a smaller diameter where the herb is held than the current one you're using.

When using this type of vape (I use Vapor Bros), you want to

1.) Maximize the surface area of the screen that is covered by herb,
2.) Maximize the time that air which is at the appropriate temperature stays over the herb.

You can accomplish 1.) by choosing a whip whose air path will be covered just completely with one layer of shake when you are packing the SMALLEST bowl you will ever want to vape. Such a bowl might not stay in place, so you have two options.

a.) vape holding the box upside down so that hot air has to be pulled downwards into the whip. This prevents the contents from falling out,
b.) (this is what I do) If you can bend stainless steel screens well (and anyone can with practice) you can bend them into an umbrella shape which can be crammed into the whip with a pencil or dowel so that it stays in place -- AT WHATEVER POSITION IN THE TUBE THAT YOU WANT !! --

I use 2 or 3 of these screens inline --- ) herb ) space ) --- in my vapor bros whip BEHIND the normal placement of the screen, that is, further away from the heating element. Keeping the herb between the screens means you can vape at whatever angle you want and never worry about throwing herb all over the place or worse --- burning it on the element. Particles accumulate in the space between the right two screens (and therefore less in the whip and in my lungs), and hash accumulates on the rightmost screen (which can be placed at the front of the tube and drawn through on high heat to... 'clean' it, if you get my drift).

The keyword here is SANDWICH, which is the principle between any 2 screen design, but this is a floating sandwich in the sense that there can be as much or as little space between the screens as you want, allowing you to keep any size bowl in an immobile solid state.

Besides keeping the herb locked down, this allows me to effectively vape 25 mg in my stock VB whip since the herb is at the very center of the airstream. If you put 25 mg in the VB whip when the stock screen is in its original placement, you will lose it all in the indented rim and none of it will touched by the air. This works VERY WELL.

And the last reason, which really is crucial in my opinion. VB switched to a ceramic element, which is slightly higher powered and much more effective. The screen is really too close to the element even for amounts of herb that make sense in this large opening, so it's easy to burn. By placing the screens further away from the element, you allow the air stream to expand and cool, which means that higher settings on the knob produce lower temperatures than with the closer screen but over a LARGER area, which is key. So you can vape fatty bowls at arbitrary valid temperatures in the same tool that allows you to hit 25 mg pinches, but still get TOTAL and even coverage on that phatty, which can be hard. Further away means a DEEPER EFFECTIVE BOWL as well.

Which brings us back to addressing 2.)

I place my screens so far down the tube that on the highest setting on the box vape, the largest bowl that I will ever want to pack gets just as dark as I will tolerate (not very).

Why this complicated mechanism? Because it does EXACTLY what I want, and with a little practice it isn't that annoying anymore. In practice the right 2 screens never move unless the rightmost is getting 'cleaned'. The leftmost is the one that comes on and off each bowl, and you can leave it off when your herb is sticky.

Whip vapes also need a lot of stirring to get the most out of your herb. Are you stirring it? Also if the load is upside down you will not vape it completely as it get a little dry it will fall down and refuse to get vaped more. Like elbow packs in the EQ, this is why I don't like them and prefer to hit my EQ inversely so the load is in domed screen, but not upside down. You could probably turn the box upside down so it will be at least horizontal.

As for real consumption, I've reduced it to half when I started vaping and then it went back up. But high more and more often. With vapes you can develop tolerance as with smoking. And because they're powerful, tasty and clear headed and without any "hangover" it encourages user to vape often and so it's more likely that one will develop tolerance with vapes.

Wow, thanks for all the great info guys. Lots of good info I can try. Might get me an Arizer Solo to go along with my box vape. Can't hurt right? The two screen idea is really intriguing.

The Arizer Solo can easily replace that box vape with the addition of a power adapter.

haha yes that totally happens are first. I was blown aways at how good it can taste and definitely used more at first... but once you settle down, and it becomes less amazing to you that will settle. back when i smoked I'd go hough 1.5-3.5g a day easy. now i am using a lot if i go though 1.5g a day!

one of the most effective and lowest usage vapes i have found is simply a Pasteur pipette AKA the skinny pete. break off the long tip, pack the other end leaving space at the tip, and then heat the glass around the herb with a lighter.

simple, but effective.
