RezBlock /Cranberry Extract

Assuming its safe, would you vape through anything other than water if it offered some benefit?

I've gotten lazy... I just do a quick rinse daily, put in fresh water with like 2 drops of cranberry extract and 1 drop of Iodine... and do the whole PBW once a week.

Yes, my glass is looking scuzzy by Friday. Sigh. I'll dab then it won't bother me ;)

I've used OneStep, and it works good, too... but different, as t-dub mentioned. Works well as a second wash cycle to get the remnants...

I love PBW, just bought another 4 lbs, but I also love the "finish tone" that OneStep leaves on the glass. At first I was doing 2 separate washes but now I'm mixing the 2 chemicals together and seeing what that does. Plenty of clean glass all around for sure as well as the dishwasher . . .

Edit: Vicki bleach might be a good start. Hydrogen peroxide, these are good to do in addition to alcohol.

I still prefer Botanic choice to Nature's Answer...
and Botanic Choice still offers great sales here and there.
HOWEVER....
Walgreens sells Botanic Choice for $2.50 a bottle now.

Thanks Uncle Vito, with all the deals on this stuff I forgot what I was using . . . Botanic Choice for the win . . .

What is it that you like better about BC vs NA? I just looked them both up, and found that BCCE is "Equivalent to 8,000mg" and NACE is "equivalent to 10,000mg". I wonder if it's just more potent, drop-for-drop, or if there are other differences.

damn, it isnt sold in stores.....
Saw that :/

I ordered some cranberry extract after seeing this thread, along with lemon balm oil. I've found that a drop or two of the lemon not only gives you scented water, but I haven't seen any of the horror stories of water gone wrong. (I'm afraid of mould, yes I'm weird.) I didn't do it necessarily for the resin- never been a big problem- but to see if it would cut down on the smell of the water, since I don't dump after each session. It does help with that, but my glass also rinses cleaner and combined with PBW, gives me showroom-floor worthy shine every time.

After going through many bottles of RezBlock and Cranberry Extracts over the last 2 years, I believe the Nature's Answer is more potent and a better value... I use only 7 drops of NACE and it takes 10-11 drops to get the same effect with the BCCE.

I also notice more sediment with the BCCE and some sort of clear specs that don't dissolve in anything. I see these tiny specs that get carried up the walls of my glass and stick there. They can be a pain to get out sometimes, so much that I pay more for the NACE instead of doubling my cleaning time. My guess is that it's silica or something used to keep one of the ingredients from caking while in dry form, but that's just a guess.

What is it that you like better about BC...
After a couple of weeks open being used.. I find the BC to remain a better color, and less tiny sediment.
The NACE turns a bit darker.. and I can see slightly more particulates (true it is very tiny)...
But most of all....
The biggest reason is that I like the price!
The most I ever have paid for BC is $5 delivered when I was a "newb" to this.
Since then I have paid as little as $2
Walgreens is the first time I have dealt outside of Botanic choice.
No other differences in performance as far as I could find.

I also forgot to mention other good sanitizers that you might find at home in addition to bleach and ISO:
  • Spa and pool chemicals like chlorine can be very useful.
  • Home brewery sanitation chemicals like Star San also work very well.
  • Drain openers based on sodium hypochlorite can work wonders removing stubborn garbage just make sure you are not using something with lye . . . :rip:
  • Any type of iodine or anesthetic wash like Listerine will do in an extreme emergency as long as you are willing to take the time to rinse it out completely.
I will keep thinking . . . :hmm:

i bought the botanic choice extract from amazon and it has been working great, although i can attest to small particles rising in the can, i can usually rinse them out with warm water, if not i just leave them for a few days till i rinse with PBW

@Vitolo thanks for the heads up on that awesome deal.

special like everyone else
I find that cran extract also allows me to stick my dabber in my water and swab up emulsified reclaim easily without it sticking to the glass. Crackles and pops on the nail but oh well its just wet. I wouldn't use reclaim from water than had weird stuff like iodine in it.

Too bad wallgreens ships only to us residents. The price on the official botanic choice website is ridiculous at the moment. Any good deal for international buyers ?

I want to post a significant development in this thread. I have found a method of getting rid of the things growing in my glass from the cranberry extract. My present solution may not be practical for most BUT it should lead to a solution that will work for everyone I hope.

Many of you know that I drink electronically restructured (ionized) water from a weird looking machine that allows me to select the PH I want. Now, I drink alkaline water for health reasons and had been vaping through it for a while. It was interesting but not mentionable UNTIL I decided to turn the PH down and make some acid water.

Now on the machine they show the acid water being used for cleaning nasties (see photo below) so it should not come as a surprise to me but I found out that if I use acid ionized water, with a PH of like 3 or 4 when I mix up my vaping fluid, that nothing has grown in my glass for over a week. The water seems fresher and nicer as well and seems more robust in its ability to handle activity without becoming fouled.

OK so low PH or acid water kills mold/bacteria etc . . . duh. Seems obvious now . . .

So I realize not everyone can go out and buy a $1700 water ionizer BUT we should be able to use citric acid or vinegar or something, hopefully without taste or hazard, to lower the PH in vitro and achieve a similar result. That is what I will be working on in the next few weeks as I continue to confirm what I see working so well in my lab right now. Please keep in mind that I combine this with regular cleaning and sanitation of my glass which I feel is really important.

This sounds very interesting! I wish I could experiment with you, but alas, you are correct. I can't afford the equipment. Maybe your experiments will lead to something we can all use, or do feasibly. Keep us posted.

That's awesome @t-dub! What about Lemon Balm mentioned by @WeedyGirl1979 ? Would that lower the PH?

I totally forgot to report back on this too! I dump my water irregularly- too many people (and kids) 'round this piece- and adding the lemon balm keeps the nasties at bay well enough for me. Of course, once water loses it color I've gotta dump right away so I haven't pushed to the limit. A braver soul than me will have to give that a shot.
I also have citric acid crystals, so I have options. I have a feeling that living in the North is doing me a favor right now, as my house is dry and I have the coldest bedroom. Summer's gonna be the real test.

"lemon balm" is a member of the mint family... not an acidic source.

I tried a drop of Lemon essential oil... and too much for my lungs. I cannot breathe vinegar fumes, either. I have to be very careful with honey&lemon when I'm sick.

The lower PH water sounds like an amazing idea. The drop of iodine is just killing it for me... not in a good way. I hate the lingering smell/taste. I've just been rinsing more frequently.

So, I've actually been meaning to report on this. I have been adding a little citric acid to my NACE solution for about a month now and it's working much better than I thought it would. After getting a little growth in my mix a few times (using the inferior BCCE) I decided to give this a try. I figured because it's already in the NACE/RezBlock, I'll just add a bit more to inhibit mold and bacteria growth. It doesn't take much and I do believe this is better than adding extra cranberry extract. The strange part for me is that my glass is also staying cleaner overall, there's hardly any resin building up in my down-stem just above the water line and I can go even longer without cleaning. That was not expected at all. There's also the added benefit of citric acid removing hard water stains. Have not noticed any ill effects or change of taste so far.

What it comes down to is NACE and BCCE both contain citric acid to keep the product fresh, but not quite enough to keep our bong-water fresh when it's diluted. If 420Science is actually making their own product instead of re-branding cranberry extract (I doubt that), they should be using more citric acid.

So, if we wanted to add a little citric acid to see if it helped, what would be the best way to try that?
