Thanks for the link HoneyAir it is very appreciated.
I removed the plywood base, and heat sink to inspect the resistor. neither the wiring or resistor show visible defect. I now have no idea what would be the problem. my current plan is to stock up on all the parts the wear out on a PD and replace them when needed. I figure if I get a box of resistors, solder and iron, retaining ring clip pliers, some drill bits of the proper size, some wood, and what ever the thing is called that connects the power adapter plug to the wires, then for around $100 i will have a working PD for the rest of my life. That being said I sure would like to buy a HI but the waiting list seems even longer than what it was for a PD and that was a long 3 and a half months.

The difference is that Alan doesn't take any money up front for the HI. So, when your time comes up, you can decline if you want. If you have a back up vape, there's no risk.

Another option you might want to look at is the E-Nano. Along with the HI, it's another log vape that uses no adhesives, solder or synthetic finish.

would anyone be able to tell me what is the name of the part that you plug the adapter into and solder the resistor to? need to buy some but don't know what they actually are.

yes. thank you that is the one. does anyone know which particular one would work with the standard PD transformer or which one tom was using?

I'm not doing it anymore but I did a lot last year. I've stopped because 75%+ of the ones sent in were too badly charred to repair so it ended up a waste of time and money for the people sending them in (me too I suppose). :shrug:

Thanks for the reply. do you think this would work as an alternative? http://canada.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=13M3786. I would order from the site you provided but I need some resistors and they have a ten week wait. This is the site I was planning on buying from since the shipping is reasonable to me.

That one wouldn't work very well because it's made to be mounted opposite of what you need. You need one that screws in from the outside and that one is made to go from inside to out. You might be able to make it work but it's not optimal.

I would say you could get the plug somewhere local maybe (like a RadioShack equivalent) and then just order the resistors from somewhere else like Digi-Key or Allied Electronics but not sure what shipping would be like from them. I'd be willing to ship you the resistors myself but shipping up there now even for small items is crazy expensive probably compared to what the corporate places are able to do it for so that probably wouldn't work either. :(

OK I have almost figured out how i am going to fix up my broken PD I have just a few more questions for anyone kind enough to answer. I just need to know what kind of wire to use. also is this solders safe http://canada.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?sku=93K2260. Finally this might be a silly question but where, generally, would I be able to get kiln dried wood from .

also thanks for all the helpful knowledge that has been shared so far I wouldn't be able to fix her without input of those more experienced in these things. I would just replace my PD but I can't really afford that right now.

I found a used Purple Days that I am very interested in. The only thing is it doesn't come with a vapour tube. What other log companies make tubes that are compatible with a Purple Days vape?

in that link you mentioned I nowhere see that solder is lead-free(lead-free solder is the one you need), but under 'alternatives' it does list lead-free solder.



@dr. plutonius: you could check if ed's tnt still has some in stock(wooden aromazapstems that also fot the PD), also it could be woodeez is still selling stems(wich should also fit the PD)

That solder is 99.7/0.3 tin/copper so should be lead free and ok to use.

As far as wire goes I like bare (no insulation) solid tinned copper between 18ga and 22ga, I don't see any of that there at Newark but I imagine they must have it I'm probably just searching wrong.

Not sure where you could get KD wood from in Canada but most any woodworking store / lumber place that sells quality hardwoods should have them or be able to point you in the right direction.

Well USPS went and lost my Purple Days that I bought off of Ebay...told me just to keep waiting. Best part is it hard a tracking number but USPS told me they forgot to scan it, so they don't know where it is.

Yeah really. Not happy about this. I've had 3 different people from USPS tell me to just keep waiting. No attempts from them to even try to right the wrong (despite the package being priority mail that was shipped a week ago today.)

I will never use USPS again. I'll pay extra if it means using a company that actually can track where my package is.

EDIT: What a relief. It showed up. I was really getting scared there from all the USPS horror stories I've been reading about. Now all that is left is for Alan's replacement tubes to show up. I feel bad for the guy I bought from and for Alan. USPS just made this whole process very uncomfortable.

Finally got to try it out today. It's amazing how much vapour you can get from such little weed. It got my really ripped. Definitely a fan of log vapes now. I feel like log vapes are just too convenient and reliable to have.

Happy I found one of these on ebay. They are just getting too hard to find. And a thanks to Alan over at toasty top for making me a couple of roasting tubes for it.

You are welcome. Glad to hear the tubes arrived and you are having great success. You are the first person to try one of my stainless steel tips that has been modified for the PD/MZ/WZ. They are great for conservation. The silicone Turbo Tube should have much better air flow and also hold a bit more.
