Possible laser vape

@nondarb Are those specs for real?

high power 5w 5000mw 405nm - most I have read talk about 5mw as a laser pointer, this is 5000mw, is that even legal?

No they aren't legal everywhere and I doubt the specs are entirely accurate, that was just a random one I found.

I just keep seeing them pop up in my DHGate and thinking what if...

nondarb,
Output power:< 200mw

That was just a random example, they have several more expensive more powerful units. A friend of mine has a purple laser that will physically burn paper, but its slow to go about it and cost him $50 at a fleamarket.

I'm not very knowledgeable on these things, I merely through that link out to show how far techs come since this thread was made. I'm sure this is a very attainable goal these days.

I have a modified laser, but it's not powerful enough to vape flower, I have gotten a whip of vapor from oil once.

A bit newer thread.

Well the photo and description claims to be able to light a fag, and that's a dry herb wrapped in paper isn't it?

If it can create enough heat energy to combust a ciggie, then vaping should be possible.

I'm just wondering if those specs are a typo, or simply false advertising?

Hey,
However there is one thing that shows a lot of promise, I think that perhaps someone reading this may have the time and inclination to take this one further: UltraViolt laser light (UVB) can be used to 'flash' the THC right off the herb without particullarly heating the vegetative matter itself! Light in the region of 280-310nm is very strongly absorbed by Cannabinoid compounds (both THC & CBD), so much so that a flash of UVB in conjunction with a little air movement can cause the trichomes to throw their contents up in a mist of vape.

here's the catch, UVB laser diodes are in their infancy and getting more than 100mW is not a goer right now. You can get more powerful lasers in the UVB range but they are quite expensive and they are not very small. Still they get better every month and I expect to see suitable laser diodes on the market within 3 years or so.

Vape on brothers :brow:

I did a bit of research, apparently this is called laser ablation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_ablation , https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excimer_laser#Medical_uses) . Very interesting idea. Here is a laser with peak at 278nm, 300mW (https://www.lasercomponents.com/uk/product/uvb-uvc-leds-200-315-nm/), would this do the job? Need to find out how to calculate the energy required to ablate THC off of bud ^_^

Since it is revived from the afterlife anyway, I would like to propose a black body for such use, increasing juice from the laser:

Even though it is mentioned simple resistors are more efficient and so on, one might want to isolate air path from electronics somewhat better(?). Then of course the Induction Heating comes into play as-well, and I think is much better to opt for anyway. Also I would not want a UV-Laser vaporizer on my desk (especially DIY), there are better ways of catching cancer. My 2 cents.
