@Xclerk as with everything these days it's been about finding the time but it's close. The very first proof of concept was a bit Heath Robinson but it did what it said on the tin.
I can't wait to get the final version together.

Some incredible things to come @Copacetic.

Got to make a bit of time for some shits and giggles stuff while the stem onslaught goes on.

Red alternative snakeskin got turned into a uniform cylinder in readiness for who knows what just yet.

It had to be done, as a kid I loved this band.

The endless amount of design ideas just expanded exponentially.

This blank is basically a pen kit brass tube with a picture glued to it then cast in a resin, almost certain the snakeskin is made the same way.

A 45° cut in a stem means any accents need to be drilled at the same angle.

A laser cutter would be nice as each hole is now elliptical and drilling multiple accents taped together isn't the best for accuracy.

Every step, no matter how small, is always a good thing.
Zebrano which will end up twisted, Yew/Amber, Bog Oak/Juma Green Mamba and Bocote and Lime

Along with the stems and Maple IH enclosures there have been a couple of things being worked on.

Cannot wait until everything is pulled together and some pictures taken, great fun with great people.

Might be neat to scrap the plastic mouthpiece and the gold trim, and make it look just like a real cigarette with a filter.

I only say that because at first glance, that's what I thought you had done. And, it looked pretty cool. On second look, I saw the entire piece. Still, very cool. You do nice work.

Looking back, that's what one of the generations of 'one-hitters/dugouts' looked like in the old days.

@Hackerman this piece was a customer order and is for a fancy dress Halloween party.
My better half said the same thing 'looks just like a cigarette'.
The Bimblebox and Alt Ivory really give the correct look.

I can imagine George when he first saw it 'fuckers gone and made my vaporiser into a fucking cigarette'.

Got some problems with videos due to copyright so it'd depend where you are and Instagram has lost its mind when it comes to any kind of soundtrack.

Neither an Iso wipe nor a toothbrush would shift the dust in the grain of Bog Oak so to give it that ancient look it's hand picked for now.

Final Ti pieces in my grubby mitts today.

    First one assembled

And turned Yew, alternative Amber with black and brass accents.

Had a couple of these aluminium 'heatsinks' made up to accept the Ti inserts. Turned a couple of pieces to see how they look, Ace of Spades stem is one.

Like where I can take them so got more cylindrical along with some reuleaux triangles and squares coming.

Being aluminium they open up a new world for me.

Hard anodising is on the cards. Great wear resistance and plenty of colours to go at.

Black will be the first colour as there are plans for it.

These are so dope. 3rd one down right up my alley. Really liking the heatsinks that accept the inserts and always like to see andodizing going on.

@Xclerk there will be 10 of each stem going out to Puff It Up before the end of the month.

I did a bit of reading around and because Ti anodising leaves a very thin coat of colour on the surface it's prone to wear.
Something as simple as repeated picking up and handling is enough to remove this coating and some colours wear faster than others.

The heatsinks will be hard anodised which is more scratch and wear resistant due to a differing process.
A thicker layer of oxide is dyed and the end result is harder than the aluminum itself.

To be fair they are not going to handled that much so it's more cosmetic than anything else.

I think there will be 20 squares, 20 triangles and 60 of the cylindrical pieces and they will all be black.

There's a minimum order price and it worked out that 106 heatsinks would be the maximum amount for this price.
Keeps it cost effective and doesn't break the bank.

Makes sense. Ti andodising is funny. I'm sure it would be significantly more for titanium anyway. Black is cool tho. Goes w everyrhing. Damn im sure they'll sell super fast. U know aroud what they are retailing them for. Hit me up in a pm before so I get some sort of heads up. I need me a twist. And what a twist it is. Keep it up man always excitied to see the stuff u fabricate.

@Xclerk I'll know more on price once I receive the triangular and square heatsinks.
They are going to be more expensive than the cylindrical ones due to extra machining costs.

A Ti insert in an anodised Ali heatsink will be more costly than the regular Ti but not by much.

One thing I can assure you of is that I do not make any profit on any of these CNC parts. They are relatively cheap but more importantly they save time.

The Blackwood ones being handmade and wood are 4 times cheaper than Ti but it meant quite a few ended up as scrap, no big deal on the cost but factor in time, waste and disappointment.
It made so much more sense to go with a precision part that can churned out by the hundred.

Ti anodising is inexpensive compared to Ali.
I have everything to anodise Ti here but it's just not hard wearing enough for my liking.

Please feel free to get in touch anytime about a special twist.

A brief conversation was had this week which in time should hopefully open up some new possibilities in stem design.

There could've been a face to face meeting this weekend but work commitments and my brains need for a couple of weeks planning a trip out of the country put a stop to that.
