My other vaporizer is a Storm by Vapefiend, I understand in comparison that due to it's ceramic oven, glass mouthpiece and short airpath this is what delivers good flavour.

With the Pax im just finding it very muted in comparison and overly toasty at times, I have tried various strains, various grades of grinds and heat settings but with the exception of a bowl earlier (Ammo that wasn't particularly dry and very coarse grind) that was the best flavour and vapour experience I've had to date. As said it packs a punch even with the half bowl but I'm just finding the flavour way off what I expected (after a couple hits the taste seems to turn toasty quickly and already feels muted added with the mouthpiece inference) so this feels more like a quick hit vape with not much enjoyment of the terpene profiles of your herbs.. I'm going to stick with it for a week or so and see if things improve but if not will try and sell it and go with my original choice the Davinci IQ.
The silicone/rubber is more noticeable at the end of the bowl now, the silicone/rubber option mouthpiece with the Storm vaporizer doesnt give good flavour either so I think I'm particulary sensitive to it..thats why I stick with the glass mouthpiece.

I soaked my Pax mouthpieces in hot water earlier both came out with white residue when drying which I assume is pretty normal for the material.

The raised mouthpiece strangely was less rubber like even from new but I dont feel the draw and air flow is as good as the flat one.

I'll give it a week or so and see what happens

Towards the end of the session after using Pax on the highest setting for a few minutes, suddenly the vapour production seems to increase and it starts giving a plastic/silicon taste. I feel like the half-oven lid (part in contact with the bud) starts to burn and gives that taste, but I'm not a 100% sure...could be the flat silicon mouth piece too...any inputs @Ojan_at_PAX ?

I never read any report speaking about a melted/burne lid.... although I agree there is a slightly plastic/silicon taste on the end of the session at higher temp.

Ah I hear you guys, yesterday I tried higher temps for the first time, the taste is really not good ^^
Usually I always vape on the lowest setting and the highest I go for is setting two...
IMO on the lowest setting the taste should be nice on every pax3 otherwise there must be something wrong

@sNc If you like good Flavor and are looking for a session vaporizer the davinci IQ is definitly no bad desicion! But it needs more effort at using and cleaning than the pax

The engineering plastic used in the oven lid, and the mount it rests on can withstand temperatures hotter than PAX will reach so they won't affect the taste. The medical grade silicone mouthpiece can also withstand high temperatures, and is far from the heat source. After supporting 3 generations of PAX devices, the things I've seen that affect taste are: the material itself, the residue it leaves on the oven walls (especially on high temps), any residual cleaning liquids in the oven, or the oven lid if it was accidentally soaked in something (it's not air-tight).

If flavor is the name of the game, and you've paired your app with a PAX 3, I recommend trying out Flavor Mode, which increases input/data parameters for the cooling features to preserve flavor for longer. My personal favorite is Efficiency Mode though, which start on the lowest setting and automatically work its way to the highest, increasing 1°F every 2 seconds.

If anyone keeps experiencing a strange taste despite clean oven walls void of residual liquid, please chat with our support team! We've brought back a live chat option that's available M-F 9a-5p PT and is accessible via our support form after picking the device you're inquiring about.

Just to further update on my experiences with my Pax 3....
It has got a lot better with taste and flavour production, I still find by the end of a session and whilst only using 185°C or 191°C temps the unit heating up and conducting heat does still have a slight adverse affect on the taste in the way of warm Silicone/Rubber taste from the mouthpiece at the sessions end.
(As stated before I think I'm particularly sensitive to this but strangely the raised mouthpiece doesn't suffer as much with the same issue but I dont enjoy the draw as much as it feels wispy at times??)

I know there isn't really a way around this, but I can live with it...as time goes on I'm enjoying this device more and it's stealth ability is hard to match

I just received my water-tool adapter from Delta 3D Studios (https://delta3dstudios.com/) for the PAX. It's the best. I give it my "Happy Grumpy-Guy" approval.

While I assume Ojan is probably a pretty chill dude... pax support is absolute garbage. I would never ever purchase a Pax 3. Go for Davinci, FF, crap... even GHopper.

One of the reasons that it tastes off, or may be smelling funny --(see vape critic review on odd smell https://www.vapecritic.com/pax-3-davinci-iq/) is silica mat fiber used in the insulation of the oven.

Yes... if any of you have any familiarity with insulation or refractory materials--that's basically fiberglass.

Some of the vape companies like pax will tell you. a. it's not fiberglass and b. it's fully sealed and not in the air path.

Newsflash- a. technically IT IS 'glass' fiber insulation. b. unless pax has some serious chemical engineering gear on hand- they don't have anything near 'sealed' devices, and it doesn't need to be in the air path to be inhaled.

TLDR. That bad smell, in part can be due to a number of chemicals that off-gas over time from the insulation binder material or the silicone adhesive used in the kapton tape that secures it around the oven.

PAX> Engineered in USA but mAde in China. No MSDS for your review. What's in your vape?

I can only speak of my own experiences, but their service was great!

What service issue(s) did you have? Everything you mentioned was a manufacturing/design choice.

I've never seen MSDS sheets for assembled products much less a vape, before we condemn Pax for this, have you seen one for another vape? Is so, pm me a copy, I'd love to see it.

I would like to say that solved my problem a 100%. I never experienced an issue with the plastic/silicon flavor till recently (only at the highest temp) and then followed this advised to give it a clean and I can say for sure this fully fixed it entirely. It seems that taste was nothing but, because of the left over residue on the oven walls and the screen. After giving it a full clean and putting in a new screen, the unpleasant taste at the end of the sessions was gone and the session ended just perfectly exactly like how it should when it stops producing anymore vapor. For me Pax support has been nothing but awesome! This thing is pretty much flawless!:tup::tup:

From where do you have these informations? Since you don't even own a pax by yourself
I own both, the IQ and the pax3, both are awesome.

btw as vapecritic stated in the description of the video, he had a pre-production unit for this comparison..

Good for you man. enjoy. Inhale deeply.
Smell also. Which raised curiosities. Which led to investigations. Which went unanswered. Glad you had a better experience.

That's correct, few people are advertising their component data sheets. Primarily because no one cares. But they should. You're inhaling this stuff. And yes, other major vapes have been happy to provide material specs when asked. Which should be basic CS info.

When I clean my pax3 well and make a burn on the highest setting after. Then put it empty on setting 1 or 2, this are the ones I use with herb, it doesn't smell

I have no idea about smell. All I smell and taste are the terps running through the vape. Tastes delicious. Only thing they need to fix is that damn concentrate insert. It leaks and u can't even tilt it or it will leak. Very dissapointing. All pax did was send me a new insert and guess what it did the same thing

Up ur game if u are going to put out a concentrate insert into a $300 unit. It best not leak!!

Actually if your using the app the pax3 has 5 temp settings. Whatever temp your set to on the app pops up and the 5th settOmg when you manually put it into set mode and scroll through.

No. you have the 4 stock temp settings and then whatever your current temp setting on the app becomes your 5th temp. It would be cool to be able to set all of them indicidually.

It is. There is a setting on the app on the same page as the settings for the petal colors and dynamic mode. It will allow you to put the oven in standby if you want to play games, ect. Without having the oven on.

I would personally prefer that you could set lower temperature in the app than 184 C (360f) i dont think this cant be done with the firmware update. I'd like to set the temp to maybe 120 C or less.

+ the app and the device should be updated to disconnect less from the device (it vibrates all the time if u use vibrations + app)

Lower then 360? You wouldn't get any vapor...

    Picture of temperatures HERE

First "type" of THC (THCA) starts to vaporize at 248 f, then THC is at 347 f and THCV vaporizes at 428f + i like to vape other herbs too from time to time (pepermint) and they need lower temps too

I'm talking about personal experience. If you put it on the lowest temp you will get a very limited about of vapors why the hell would you inhale pepermint

Yeah personal experience: bigger temperature range = more herbs you can safely vaporize

(+ when i vape weed at 360f it still sometimes [with some strains] makes too much vapor so if i could set even lover temp it would help)

Try fresh pepermint, the taste is just amazing, or other herbs (i got them as a gift from VAPOSHOP with my PAX 3). Weed isn't only herb good for vaporizing, but most herbs need lover temps. I love to experiment so bigger temperature range is better for everyone (everybody must agree :D) and i cant see why it couldn't be solved with simple firmware update.

    What do you think @Ojan_at_PAX ? :)

I vaped (190°C) some organic Oregano the other day when my throat was in poor shape..it numbed it within a minute and was pretty tasty after the first hit which is spicy.

Great to hear that! Would be great to have like "lower temp switch" to unlock lower temperatures so you can vape every herb on this planet and not combust, coz this is FUCKCOMBUSTION forum! :D

Only thing missing on the pax 3 ist the access to lower temps.
