bought new, unused vape on ebay few days ago.
basic, easy-vape knockoff, made in china.
had same one before and used for 2 years with no problems.

but this time, when opened mailing package, got strong odor. smells
like shellac. unwrapped vape and put it right in front of a fan for a few
hours. then turned it on to 350 degrees for 10 minutes. did that 4 times
over a few hours. then tried to use the vape, but stopped because i was
inhaling bad fumes. then left it on an open window sill overnight. trying
to air it out. smell is a little less, but still there.

next day, left it in front of fan for 10 hours. honest.
smell is still there when the vape isn't turned on.
it's not coming from the outside surface of the wooden box.
it's strongest when i smell inside the area where the heating element is.
emailed the seller and he told me to turn it on for 20 to 30 minutes and the smell should go away.

seems like i've already done more that that.
i am about to try leaving it on for 25 minutes at 400 degrees.

is anyone else aware of this problem?
any suggestions? (besides returning it and buying something different)
thanks,

Get rid of that thing ASAP. You bought a no good vape it looks like, would you really want to inhale through something you know nothing about especially because of this smell problem? You can get a real vaporizer for not that much these days.

Bum vape. Dangerous! Try to work out refund with seller. If no can do file claim with PayPal or eBay Buyer's Protection.

I've heard of some people getting an odor off of the older vapirs just after purchase which eventually resides, but for the most part, you should not have any odor, as pappy mention this is dangerous. High quality vapes have a ceramic heater and some glass and aluminum separating the heater and the whip, this will certainly give off no odor. A decent vape is worth the price.

I agree to send it back. Makes no sense to vape for health reasons only to inhale potentially hazardous off-gasses.

That's not cool at all, just another example of why people knock the cheap Chinese knock-offs I guess! Scary though I wouldn't want to be breathing that stuff..:uhoh:

Chinese product. What more needs to be said? We're asking for trouble buying from a company that uses China as quality control / health standards

Again, the problem with these cheap vapes isn't that they're made in China, it's that they're made cheaply by a manufacturer who hides from the end user. The country of origin could just as well be anywhere where labor is cheap.

There are thousands of high quality products made in China. If you don't have one or more electric/electronic made in China products in your home, then you're probably living in the woods with no modern conveniences. It's not where it's made that matters, it's who makes it. I hope that one of these days a Chinese company will produce a high quality vape that can stand up to any and all safety concerns, and put this 'made in China vape=crap' stuff out of business for good.
