    Hi all.

I've been a smoker for about 7 years now. A bit on and off, and a bit of years in between 7 years ago and now where I didn't smoke at all. My method of smoking was always through combustion, although I have dabbed it a few times before, ate edibles, smoked weed pens and the weed cartridges.

The main reason for my interest in vaping weed was due to the discretion, along with the portability and convenience. Then the more I've read up about vaping dry herbs, the more interesting it got for me. Hearing about how you'll be able to taste the actual distinctive flavors of the strains, how it's also more healthier since you're not just lighting every thing that's on the nug, etc. Even more so, I've heard that people are actually saving more weed by switching over to vaping. When I'm smoking daily and habitually, I'd say my average consumption rate would probably be around 7g a week. Roughly an ounce a month. I do take breaks every now and then to keep my tolerance and dependency down, but I will have to suffer for a bit during the break. As of now, I'm currently on my 2nd day of a break, but on average, I'd say my bowls were about .2g or so, and I was probably lighting up every 2 hours or so.

I'm gonna be going on a trip in about a month, and by then I should be through at least 2 weeks of a tolerance break. If I haven't already started vaping by then, I'll be able to experience what it's like for the first time with my new lowered tolerance. I'm looking forward to it.

Now, because of my weed tolerance and usage, I decided on getting a portable vape with a big oven. My budget was around ~$100-$120. I've narrowed it down to either the Flowermate v5 Nano or the Boundless CF, and ultimately I think I'm going to go with the CF. Initially, I leaned towards the CF mainly because of the big oven size, along with its design reminding me of a typical box mod (the v5 Nano looks like one too). The more I've read about the oven size and how you don't need that much weed compared to smoking a bowl, the less appealing the oven size for the CF was. Although I'd still prefer a bigger oven just in case I do want to vape more! Or share. It's just a nice insurance to have IMO. I've also heard about mods and attachments for the CF, and I'll definitely be using it with a water pipe attachment.

I felt like as I was getting into it, there was just a whole lot of things to look at, and I feel like they're all somewhat unique in their own way. People have their preferences for what they want -- but I can definitely see the curiosity to experience with all the other vapes. So... who here has the CF? How do you like it?

Also, one more thing... what was the first thought you guys had when you switched from smoking to vaping? What was the thought after more repeated usage if you had to compare it with how smoking felt?

    Thanks!

Welcome to FC! You'll find a wealth of knowledge here.

My first reaction was wow. You can really taste the herb. Once I found vaping, I knew I'd never go back to combustion.

First thought - This cant be right, no smoke coming out of my lungs, i better try again.

Five minutes later - Oh yeah baby, put another log on the fire... cook me up some bacon and some beans.

Five months later - With a vape its easy to control your dosage, flavor flavor flavor, far less conspicuous smell, extracting at different temps for differing effects is possible, some vapes have a learning curve, the list goes on but my brain does not.

It may or might not be on your radar at the moment, but in all likelihood it will be at some point, and that is the dynavap, it doesn't have a big oven but it makes good use of the one it has, small portable butane powered bundle of goodness.

I had a couple boundless vapes. I don't vape on the go so mainly use larger portable vapes that use a boxmod- like the Iheat. Over time I've gotten rid of my boundless and other vapes like it. My main small portables that I keep in case I need stealth are: the fury 2: small, inexpensive, works well. And some dynavaps.
As for smoking vs vaping: I quit smoking years ago which meant quitting cannabis. I started choking for hours after one hit. When I discovered vaping, I was able to start cannabis again. I can vape and breathe -which is great.

What really got me when I first started vaporizing dry herb was that the 'resin' or 'reclaim' is pleasant and honey-like and wonderful , not the disgusting black goop we used to call 'resin' from combustion. And after you done vaping you can eat or cook with the brown spent stuff should you choose to do so. Cant do that with ashes. Yeah vaporizing good dry flower vs smoking it has most definitely cut down my spending on material. . This is also a really deep rabbit hole. You'll see. But you should Get a ti tip dynavap and a fury 2 , you'll be off and running on your vape adventures. Cheers! D.

    - the vapor's incredibly cool compared to smoking (I mostly use a mighty which excels at cooling the vapor). as @TheThriftDrifter put it, you realize it's getting you high but without all the coughing - and it tastes like it smells (at least at lower temps): yummy.

    - the discretion is amazing. what with all the people vaping e-cigs, sucking on some tech-y looking device hardly gets a second look. the absence of smoke (i.e. stink) and flames adds to the discretion.

    - you have to take 3-4 vape hits to equal 1 big combustion hit, and a vape hit's long (~10 sec.), so you get high more slowly. I think I read that it takes ~20 min. to get fully high after ingesting, so you might find yourself higher than you want to be 20 min. after a giant bong hit, but the slow onset of getting high from vaping means you're more likely to know when to stop because you're more 'caught up', realize how high you are before it's too late.

    - I've seen a lot of posts here that seem to indicate that people aren't finishing loads - I think it's because of the above (they didn't need/want to get higher, so they stopped). part of this is the technology too: a load's finished when it 'tastes like popcorn' (or just bad), so to truly finish vaping a load, you need to get to the point where it tastes crappy, which is subjective. I'd rather put in a bit more and stop before vaping the last 2-3 nasty hits, but I live in a legal state, don't use all that much, so it's no big deal. (a lot of people believe high-temperature hits are more 'sedating' than lower-temp ones, so - it they're right - getting to 'popcorn' might be desirable - bad flavor notwithstanding - if you want more sedation)

    hope this helps.

I noticed that smoking almost feels thick now and it puts a film in my mouth that doesn't taste good. In fact there may be times you combust by accident in your vape. You will know the difference then!
Vaping definitely saved your bud too. I can smoke a 1g Joint or vape 0.3g.
The one thing I haven't been able to duplicate is a bong hit. I get close with my G43 and my Elev8r but it's not quite as powerful.
No coughing either. I developed a little cough when I used to smoke now the worst I get is a dry throat if I go to hard on my RBT Splinter Z :brow:
I'm on a break now (new job) but I'll be back to visit my green mistress soon.

Thanks! That's good to hear :) Makes me more excited to try it out. I've went on a quick two day break before smoking again, and the thing about doing that is that I'm always somewhat nervous about taking that first hit back. Like you said, I can't control a fine line of where I want to be if I were to take a bong hit. I could take very small hits at a time, but that's kinda a hassle.

If I smoke day after day, I'll be able to take a bigger hit without coughing, but of course I don't think that's very good on my lungs. I noticed that I run out of breath pretty quickly if I do anything cardiovascular. I do lift regularly though, but when it comes to cardiovascular activity, that's just a different story. My lungs feel a lot weaker, I'm not sure is it just that I'm out of shape, if it's because I've been smoking, or both.

I'm also wondering... let's say a person smokes 1g a day, and another who vapes 1g a day. Would the person who vapes end up getting more out of his weed, whether it's getting higher, or longer throughout the day? Also, would it be easier to function off the vape high than a weed high while still having a nice high that can get you couch locked if you smoke a bit too much? I'm guessing the guy who vapes would end up getting more higher throughout the day because he's using less of those 1g to get high each session. But how does it affect tolerance and dependency? Would a person on 1g weed regardless of what method still feel the same dependency issues as the other method?

Sorry for the questions but I'm really curious and hoping that it can help me with the tired/sluggish feeling I get after smoking. The feeling usually doesn't go away fully until I take a nap/sleep.

I've been hearing that there's a noticeable difference in taste too. That has definitely got me wondering. How about a bong compared to a vape? I know for me, I'd prefer not to smoke joints because of how wasteful it can be for the bud. I'm not looking for a hit like a bong hit, I don't think anything will be like a bong hit except a bong hit :p Pipes, bubblers, not the same for sure. Dab rigs are a different story, but I've never dabbed it much. The high definitely feels a lot cleaner than straight up combustion though.

I will be needing to go on a break to open up more opportunities for other jobs, so let's hope vaping can help keep my tolerance down or make me not feel so dependent while I do quit.

Give vaping a go and find out if it makes a difference.

I think tolerance and dependency are different for each person, regardless of method of ingestion and is something you workout and adjust according to your own needs/restrictions.

Once i got it sorted, I found vaping to be far more efficent than combustion.

It's totally possible to vape at lower temps, i find it gives a more energizing, uplifting buzz, although not everyone has this same experience.

I can’t imagine vaping 1g a day but I dont vape all day. I tend to use 1g a week with daily vaping. I do have some lung related health issues but those are unrelated to vaping and have not been worsened by vaping. I do tend to use water or a cooling stem

a lot of people are surprised at how efficient vaping can be, but you'll have to see if that's true for you. I personally don't think the high's different except that vaping gets you high more slowly. the common themes that always come up when people talk about vaping is that it's less hard on your lungs and tastes better. maybe you can tailor the high by deciding whether or not to get to the highest temperatures that supposedly make for a more sedating high, but you can experiment with that easily enough.

vaping tastes better (IMO). if you want giant bong-like hits but cool (not hot) and better taste, you might like vaping concentrates. a lot will depend on what vape you get; some vaping devices deliver huge hits (for example: https://www.vapecritic.com/pens/), and a lot of regular vapes can handle concentrates by using 'pads' (scrunched up discs of steel threads).

The more I'm still smoking, the more I end up confirming how unpleasant it is to have to deal with the coughing. Again, this is especially since I've took a small break. I've heard the comparison before on a video regarding vaping, and they compared dabbing to drinking some grain liquor, bong hits to drinking your average shot, and vaping like drinking a beer or wine and slowly enjoying it.

I think when I get my vape, I'll decide to use that instead throughout because it's more efficient and more convenient. Maybe for times when I want to get high quickly and don't mind using some bud, I'll use the bong, but even so... I'll be getting the water pipe adapter, so maybe fuck combustion?

I've definitely had a few concentrate pens before. The ones I remember trying the most are the ones that look like the Juul (the KandyPens RUBI). I've definitely gotten high off 'em, and I'd probably make a budget buy for one of those along the way. For now, dry herb vaping is what I'm currently interested in, as I've never done it, and it makes me more interested to try :p I've got friends who had the concentration pods vapes, but none of them's got a dry herb vape.

Now I'm wondering, do you think vaping is probably more preferred for the friends that has always seemed to have a bad time when smoking? I feel like with vaping, like ThriftDrifter said, it's easy to control your dosage, so I'd assume for those who are not really sure exactly how much they should smoke (beginners) but want to smoke an amount so that they can feel good, vaping is the best for that.

vaping's probably not as bad for your lungs as smoking, but some smokers try vaping and just don't like it, for all kinds of reasons.

U did not ask me however here’s my take 4 what it’s worth?

    Smoking is intense 4-sure!
    I smoked joints 4-decades!
2012 I tried vaping & loved this way of enjoyment! (CANNABIS never tasted so good)

Whatever U like or fit’s your life?

People tend to group dabs and liquid cartridges with dry herb vaping, so you have a decent idea of what that feels like already. That said, I find dry herb preferable, as it is often more balanced than high THC extracts, and tastes better, imo.

If it’s not sold yet, this is a far better use of your $200 budget than the ones you’re looking at, especially if you still want to be able to push it hard and get something more like a bong hit (which is an option, but not a requirement).

Check out the FlowerPot thread here if you need more convincing. :)

Either way, I’d steer you away from those if you’re looking for a great vaporizer rather than an okay.
