Suggestions and why?
I'm thinking Denver/Boston/Cali currently.
Do you like warm climates versus cool climates? What leisure activities do you like? Will you need to find a job in this new state? What field?
Look at the states that are likely to go recreational.
I don’t know your situation but I would consider cost of living too. Take DC for example. Sure, it’s not a state but it’s friendly. I don’t see too many people moving here for cannabis though.
Renting a small (as in less than say 700sqft) 1br condo/apt including parking in certain neighborhoods could easily run $2k. And those are the buildings with few amenities. $24,000 a year in rent...
You might be better off going to Canada. The US is going to shit.
Do you love long walks in the rain? How often do you expect to see the sun? Do you like to wind surf, snow ski, to be close to Pacific ocean, close to camping, fishing and hunting: consider Vancouver, Washington or thereabouts. No Income Tax. Sales Tax only, but close to Oregon- no Sales Tax. Vancouver is on the Columbia River, and at this location, the river is also the state boundary between (Portland) Oregon and Washington State. Six hrs by car to Vancouver, B.C., the greater of the two Vancouvers. Summer is unreal, mostly because we've endured months of moisture. On average, there are 144 sunny days per year in Portland/Vancouver.
Colorado is nice, but now and then the weather tries to kill you. From a couple weeks back in our garden:
haha...well, feel free to follow your own advise.
I'd love to.
And I have family that moved to OR a year ago, so I would have a rent-free place to crash till I got on my feet if I decided to just go. But I'm not wanting to take a financial cut to go and just start over.
