    Way to go Florida!
Time to start planning for full legalization, which is what we really need worldwide.

I hope that FL is more competent than MD in setting up the program. MD has been at it for over four years and they just keep fucking it up.

I believe in FL, the state government has a deadline for establishing the regulatory structure for MMJ. That's good...otherwise you might end up like me, wondering if you will live long enough to actually see an open dispensary.

With the Republican trifecta as it stands, I would not expect anything to move quickly in the direction of full legalization.

    Florida also voted for Trump.
May as well urinate into the wind.
Do not expect the Republican controlled government (President, House, Senate, Supreme Court) to be friendly to our concerns.

    • Not nice. Warning point issued.
Get out of here with that bull shit. Florida voting for medical was a big win and voting for trump was not a detriment to the cause.

It's Florida so we say we're just 'pissin' into a fan'(well some of us may say that.)

Since this will be a state mandate kinda thing because it passed with such an overwhelming majority of the vote I can't see people in government who claim to be Republican will try to stop it. isn't allowing states to govern themselves a huge part of the republican stance? I Hope It Still Is.

Anywho they need Florida's votes in 2020 so they had ought to play nice... Medical Marijuana got 71.29% of the vote and trump won with 49.06%.

The real issue is that this is a house of cards built on a shaky table! No matter what the state law says, Federal law still says it's illegal.

I suppose it will be a test of Trump's response to support for MMJ, he claimed "100%"

    It was a big win!

However, if you haven't already, I would encourage you to review the names of the Congressmen and Senators who are part of Trump's transition team and then head over to NORML's website and check their overall rating and/or voting record for the following issues. Chris Collins = ok.

    States' rights?

    Veterans Equal Access Amendment
    McClintock/Polis Amendment
    Rohrabacher/Farr Amendment

    Daines/Merkley Amendment (2016)
    Mikulski Amendment (2016)

No Florida politician is going to buck a 71% approval for medicinal because they want to keep their job. At 71% there are more than enough repubs making their desires known. What will be implemented could be less than joyous though and remains to be seen. The hazards of living in a repub stronghold.

The real repub test will be recreational.

Say, where one would find good updated info for FL?
I think the rules have to be effective some time in March, after which ??? has to happen before dispensation.

Who is monitoring these rule writers?

The Florida Dept of Health is supposed to make regulations for medical cannabis in FL. I would be viligent if I were you make sure safe access is available for patients. You have various cannabis friendly advocates for medical like NORMAL I would see what they are saying about legal medical for cannabis patients. Americans For Safe Access (ASA) is a great organization.

Also it takes some time to get the whole medical dispensaries stocked and ready for operation. Sometimes those in power put up longer timelines to get things in place. I hope it happens fast for you guys in FL since it's been such a long haul. It should have been made legal a long time ago.

    Edit
In WA state we have medical cannabis clinics that employ doctors, Naturopaths or nurse practitioners who give medical cannabis recommendations or authorizations for patients. A lot of doctors are not giving out recommendations. They either are afraid of their lisence being at risk or they don't agree with medical or don't know enough about it.

The patients takes the authorization to a state cannabis store and an employee that is authorized by the state gives out a medical card and your name gets registered online with our state. It seems to me like a bazaar way of doing this IMO. The employee at the cannabis shop has access to your medical condition that makes you qualified to use cannabis. This is an invasion of privacy.

Every states seems to do this in a slightly different way. Florida could be entirely different.

    Wtf :hmm:?

Voters pass medical marijuana legalization in Florida, but officials still want to block it

Last November, on Election Day, Florida became one of the latest states to approve the use of medical marijuana, with some 71 percent of residents voting in favor. But despite that overwhelming margin, some state lawmakers now appear to be looking for ways to subvert the will of the people—not a smart thing to do, politically, in an age of populism.

As reported by the Sarasota Herald Tribune, despite the vote, some lawmakers and state officials say they are concerned about how medical marijuana will be regulated and whether, over the long term, “those 6.4 million residents made the right call.”

Article title and quotes are kind of misleading. The only thing the article points out that law makers are doing is putting "six-month moratoriums on considering applications for dispensaries until they can adopt land use regulations" and then there is a bunch of idiotic quotes from one of those Vote no on 2 group members. I would almost dare to say that article borderlines on fake news.

There's a lot of prejudice against cannabis by conservative old white men. Not sure what your legislature consist of but that would be a good guess.

It takes a state a while to get cannabis up and running for medical as well as legal rec. it took almost 2 years for the legal rec to get underway in WA state. Oregon did it the right way with their legal system. They tapped into their medical cannabis. I understand FL cant do that.

There will be folks that are against cannabis that will try to screw things up for the medical patients just be ready for that. That doesn't look like fake news to me above. It looks pretty probable. Cannabis advocates will be on their toes along with their lawyers.

One of the concerns I've heard, relative to the article, is that justifying the first six-month-moratorium means a precedent has been set ...... for another moratorium and another moratorium, etc. The 71% who voted for medical didn't vote for a 6 month delay but there it is anyway.

Lets hope the above isn't correct because it would mean waiting until the voters wake up and realize they voted for something that is being held up without their approval.
