    Hello everyone.

I'm pretty new to the world of cannabis, but practically all of that time has been spent vaporizing. I only use in the evenings, and usually during that time I have other stuff to do, so I rarely get completely ripped. I haven't been able to just give full range to experimentation, so I'm still lacking in knowledge in many areas.

My specific question is what's the best way to maintain your high? Should you be taking one puff every half hour, two puffs every hour, or what? It seems like it takes about 15 minutes for my high to set in after vaping, so that makes me think I should time my next puff before I start to lose my original high?

Another thing that's related to maintaining a high is this: I've noticed that if one puff gets me high then when I go to take another puff an hour or two later, it doesn't do it for me. Is this normal?

Thanks for any input to help a noob like me:)

I tend to try to extend my sessions to at least four hours apart, usually much more than that like 6 or 8 hours. Sometimes I skip a day to set my tolerance back but that is only because I go overboard some nights.

Moderation is really the key with vaporization.

Personal experimentation is going to teach you much more than studying other people's techniques. There are just too many variables at play to really get any hold on what is "normal". I know a comfortable level of consumption for me will leave most of my associates "completely ripped".

you can eat some of your AVB w/ some ice cream 30-60 mins before your sessions.. i find eating AVB helps extend my high and ends up saving me herb. i'd say w/ your tolerance you might be good w/ a half gram to a gram of AVB, just to add that little bit extra you need.. w/ AVB i wouldn't sweat dosage so much, just experiment a little..

My husband and I are both MMJ patients, and we have extremely different medical conditions, needs, and reactions.

I can maintain a rather slight "buzz" all day with periodic vaping/use of a concentrate, and still function fairly well. My fibro requires a low level all the time, or else I stop being able to function normally.

My husband cannot do "brain work" at all with any medication, but when he is in pain, he needs much stronger pain relief than I do. We've been testing any number of sativas that are supposed to help with mental clarity, but they all make him "dopey"... even the ones that seem to do great for me.

It's all about personal experience. It is an adaptogen, so it will adapt a bit to your needs. This can be a long-term process to discover what works for you.

enchantre...the best stuff I have found for mental clarity head highs is a strain called Platinum Kush and I ran it through the vape on a low temp. This stuff actually made me hyper and I got a lot of tasks done.

I find the experience you are looking for relatively hard to maintain. The best way I have found to maintain that state of mind is by vaping at low temperatures frequently, about every half hour, but for me it's very hard to achieve with vapes that don't have good TEMP control as well as have the heating element or exchanger AT LEAST a centimeter or two away from the material. That being said, only using fresh material that has been kept out of open air and out of the light is a critical factor. I used to use the HA to maintain this, as it has all of these factors. Now I use other vapes since I have determined the critical factors. Also cool water filtration (different from humidification) makes it hard to not achieve this state of mind.

It seems you are able to achieve this with your vape with little difficulty. The way to maintain it is constant input, try a puff every 5 minutes or so, and I've been able to keep it going, or with larger doses (bigger puffs). That being said, it's a fairly transient state of mind, though one I highly value.

Experiment a little and please report your results back, as I highly value the input of others when it comes to controlling their state of mind.

What works for me is to do a session in order to get the effects I need . then I take a few hits every 15 - 30 minutes with more of a one hitter style Vaporizer like the FlashVape ,MFLB ,P2 ,vaporLithe
or VG . Play around with it for a while and find whats right for you , your needs and lifestyle .
Good Luck china boy and welcome to Fuck Combustion .

I am in agreement with taking at least 5mins between puffs.

With 20-30mins in between puffs for maintaining, after a pleasant level is reached.

5 minutes is if you really don't want to let the state of mind leave, but it is still very achievable with the interval you stated. YMMV.

Thank you for all the responses. It seems like everyone's experiences are different and that I'm just going to have to experiment myself. I did get a lot of good suggestions that I can try though, so thanks.

I have an Underdog vaporizer and it's kind of a pain for me to reload a small bowl several times in an evening, so I was thinking I could just load a large bowl and begin experimenting by taking a puff or two every 20 minutes. I know that this way the herb woun't be fresh after the first session, but maybe it will still work?

I just puff every three hours, BUT the important part, is to have some type of food before puffing. If I want energy, I eat dried fruits, and some type of nut or seed. The fat helps keep the high going for a while, and the protein prevents me from being lazy, due to the dopamine being made from the tyrosine. Add to the fact that the fruit gets the sympathetic nervous system going from the sugar, so the extra energy from that is a plus. Having some tea of coffee, helps also. These things also add to the high, and make it more intense, in a "moving" type of way.

When I want to chill, I eat some type of nut or seed, but instead of fruit, I eat some type of complex carbohydrate that is low in protein like rice or corn, due to the high tryptophan that is available for the brain, and some type of green vegetable, to keep it from being absorbed fast, which will give me an "up" type of feeling if it is. This helps me get that lazy, deep sleep, high, I want at night.

Hopefully this works for you. Have fun.

I wake n bake w sativas every morning to set me straight for the day. Its a pretty intense session though, usually burn through 1-1.5 g in my vaporblunt 2 and that should usually get me through the day. Then I do a late afternoon sesh, and then one more sesh to cap off the night. I use it as I would psych meds, it quiets my anxieties and thoughts so I can function.

often my 'sessions' aren't ereally sessions. I will just take hits from my vaporizer like you would take sips from a whiskey: a hit now and then, sometimes a few hits back-to-back(rarely more than 3), not really any timing ir shedule.
I have noticed that when I increase the amount I get ast once, noticing a high will be harder later on. I think that will be a little cleaerer if I explain it with an example. like when I go out, to a location where vaping and combusting will happen(bar, coffeeshop, friend's house). then I will take more hits right before I leave, poatly because I will be leaving my waterfiltration at home, and it's like that feeling where you're eating candies and think'well, just one more before I put the bag away' and later the bag is empty, but in this scenario I'll think'just one more hit before I turn off the vape and leave home'.
the second thing is that I will have to drive(on bicycle) for 45 minutes, I usually put music on and it's fun to be as high as you can be riding a bike while listening to good music.

but the consequence is that once I get there, I will get less high from what I consume there.

on the other hand, if I pay a little attention and make sure to only take 1-2 hits every 15-30 minutes, I will get a very good high wich can also last very long(as long as I keep taking hits)
my usual method with not paying attention to time between hits etc is somewhere between these 2.

so my experience is that you can choose between a slow beginning but a steady high, or a fast peak wich will not keep steady after the peak.
so if you want to maintain it as long as possible I would start off slow, take one hit, wait 20-30 minutes, take one(maybe 2) more, if I do that I will feel the high after the second or third time taking 1-2 hits

I have an UD too btw. I don't find the filling of the bowl that much hassle, I prefer to not load too much into it, since if it keeps giving vapor longer, that meabs the whole process is slower too, and ou'll have more whispy hits at the end when it's almost finished, I like the earlier hits more and every time you load a new bowl you'll get those early hits again(load too little though, and the early hits will be thinner too)
but if you are really bothered by reloading I would advice hash, if you can get it, my regular load of hash lasts longer as my regular load of weed

@djonkoman Thanks for the information. This is exactly what I was looking for. Even though I'm a new member, I have read a lot on this forum and I haven't noticed this type of information before, you know, where people talk about the feeling of being high.

Also, thanks for the tip about the UD. Is there any special technique with hash, or do you just treat it like kief?

definitely experiment, the process of experimentation will show you things you cant just read about in instructions on how to vape or maintain, its about the process. also, its good to once in a while step back and evaluate if you are maintaining (ritual) or chasing, it helps to clear the road a bit to notice if you are hitting a tolerance level that would require adjusting amounts. rituals that matter to you will help but imho they require some adjustments over time as well. peace chinaboy, life is a journey enjoy the ride. :peace:

hash does need a little different treatment(btw, if I'm speaking of hash I mean imported hashes like nepal, afghan or maroc, and I think I've also tried some domestically made hash so that would be bubble)
I put the screen closer to the heatport, since the layer of hash will be less thick as the layer of herb would be, so the surface will be further from the heatport with the same screenposition. also I turn my VVPS a little higher for a higher tempoerature.(13,2-13,5 , more towards 13,5 works better if you're taking longer pauses between hits, with a bit lower temp it takes a little longer before the vapor starts coming, the hash has to soften up a bit, take the heat up)
I put in 3-4 chunks of hash, about the size of a small bead or half a bead
then I take a couple of draws, and stir it. now more surfacearea is opened up and the vapor really starts coming.
I try not too stir too often since that will get more hash stuck into the screen, especially if I've overloaded it a bit that can result in bad draw. also I usually replace ther screen every time I load new hash. it gunks up pretty quick, you could squeeze 2-3 times before cleaning, depending on the hash, but I rather not take the risk of getting a bad draw(wich I've had)
when you're getting more towards the finish, you can stir without risk of getting the screen clogged up since it will be drier, not o sticky anymore. finished it will be a dry powder
so to test if it's finished or not, just drop some on your finger or hand and feel if it still has some stickiness. (it's warm though, so don't drop it in a reflex)

thi is just my treatment of hash though, some people mix or layer it with weed. I prefer to keep them apart, since the weed will be finishjed quicker and will give that finished taste all the time while the hash is still going strong, and would otherwise still taste good. the screen probably clogs less fast if you layer it though

Thanks for the advice. I'm a little confused about ritual vs. chasing. What's the difference here?

@djonkoman Thanks for the advice concerning hash. I currently don't have any right now, but I plan on getting some soon and your advice will come in handy.

my guess is that you are going to play around until you find the strain(s) that work best for you. people new to cannabis typically aren't aware of the multiple effects that can be had and somewhat controlled. it's more varied than wine.

For about 11 years I smoked a joint or bowl or bong, whatever I could really, as long as it was every day

About 4 or 5 years ago I think, I bought my first vape, an IOLITE. It was nice when it worked! But anyway to get back on topic...

I know a lot of people who are particular about the kind of weed I smoke, for me it's always been so much of anything that it doesn't matter what kind of weed it is! That doesn't mean I can't tell the difference between strains and I don't have my favorites though.

A couple of years ago I got an NO2 and I would just keep repacking it all day long. At that point I was going broke just from the amount of spliffs I was smoking in a day.

These days, I hit dabs of oil/wax/shatter off my Titanium nail about 2-4 times a day. I keep it under 5 or 6 a day (but rarely have to make myself enforce that limit). It is important to me that I don't become an oil junkie like some of my friends who can't get high from flowers at all and need to smoke tons of oil a day to stay high. If I can't get high off flowers, I cut back, but I stay high. If I have to consume more THC throughout the day I'll vape some flowers or chill on 2 carts at once on my PERSEI.

I still smoke a BACKWOODS if they're around and get my chest bust, but i've refused to combust flowers for about 3/4 of a year now. Even though I kind of can't stand the feeling on my lips anymore.

I think at this point doing dabs of oil occasionally throughout the day feels is a much "cleaner" high. Practically like the vape high but with the knock-you-on-your-ass factor of a blunt or joint. That's why I dab oil for efficiency, vape flowers for taste & fun, vape oil carts like people smoke cigarettes  (haven't had a cigarette for 4 years i think!)

    great advice in here!

rituals to me are somewhat constant, hence maintain. i lump into rituals things such as where i keep my stash, how i load, when i load, which lighter to use, sounds (music), setting (outside vs inside), activity based on amount vaped, how i take my hits, how many hits, how often, etc. i try to maintain them and on occasion i mix up the ritual and i have different rituals for different situations, i change it when it starts to feel too mechanical and less "what its all about". sometimes the ritual is to stop. ive yet to settle into one ritual that is constant over a long period of time, ive found it best to alter it as you grow and things around you change.

chasing however is ever increasing amounts to "maintain the same high as first time" type of method, it will last for a while (some longer than others) but will leave you chasing faster and faster as your tolerance steps in, no maintenance there least not long term. i have found its best to find that balance of maintaining your high while also maintaining your ability to get there without having to burn through supplies, even if you have a bottomless jar i think its healthy to consider this. life is like that, it tends to grow well in moderation of the things you add to it.

i guess chasing could be your ritual, its mine on occasion but i try not to maintain that. :D sorry if i went on a tangent there but its not all about amounts, frequency and temps...your mental state is altered in so many ways and your routine of vaping might have to alter some to account for that, backing off or kicking it up a notch when appropriate. if im trying to maintain a long term high that is easy to reproduce i hit once every 2-3 minutes till im feeling real good (im still climbing at this point but i can tell where its going) and dont take another for 4-5 hours. this amount of time usually provides me with the full range of high (think bell curve, alter it too much and baseline becomes so far away that ritual or maintaining can almost become a burden, it happens). :peace: experiment!

We just got back from a one-day cruise, which meant in practicality that we traveled for 2 days. Across the US/Canada border. Through customs TWICE. So, we had to do a little planning, and our goal was to maintain a certain medicated level, not a "high" exactly, unless you call it a body-high, to keep debilitating pain away.
I vaped my last just before we left. Used a dose of my ABV butter to keep me steady for the first part of our trip... took a few CBD capsules from our access point, and had our little pen vape (VIP2) with some tincture mixed with a couple drops of dama oil.
My husband, as he was the one driving, elected to not medicate as much for the driving portion, though he did find a lot of pain abatement using the pen vape, though it ended up being an every-two-hours thing. The CBD capsules dulled his pain down enough, though his booze consumption caused some leg cramps during the night.

By the time we got home, my hip-to-heel pain had returned, and I've been medicating pretty heavily to beat back that inflammation and nerve pain, but it is nothing like the time I had to go without.

Question guys, I see everybody talking about taking a puff every 5 minutes.
This is impossible with a stationary vaporizer, if I fill up a bag in my Volcano or Arizer Extreme Q the vape only lasts for about 5-10 minutes. After that it's not very fresh.

It's very possible with a log vape. After I've reached a base level of being medicated, I can pack a large stem full and just hit it when I need a little more all day long, or I can pack a pinch in a stem and vape as needed.
