    Salutations JCat,

It's not too clear to me how a petition with a few thousand e-signatures can help the cannabic cause, not to mention i'm never going to be receptive to Justin Trudeau if his objective is to "protect our children" in the good old '30s (read "United Nations") way - or so! Euh... Briefly put, why not let him stirr long and slow since any suitable reform would probably require its supporters to form a coalition majority against Harper anyway, after the election day.

Once all the old farts are flushed out of the system, then we will finally see some change.

    Salutations Tweek,

If this includes Harper (who's probably happy to get busy with war-like matters at the moment!) then i'd suggest Justin Trudeau to ask him a religious question about cannabis vs bible, in parliament house at Ottawa, if that's possible at all. Well, i've seen Harper wearing religious signs on TV before so i suppose he wouldn't run away. But the thing is i think the bibble says something like « ...I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit... », etc. Euh... You get the picture, it's along those lines i'd play with Harper, in front of a camera. It doesn't actually matter if it matters, simply stirr that crockpot!

    :D

Better, why not a TV game where 2 teams of 4 experts compete over a pre-defined topic. Only 4 experts to defend our cannabic rights in front of a nation that's not much, i certainly wouldn't pick Justin Trudeau in any case: maybe it would cause our politicians to start making more sense though!...

So, what about some TV contest on Cannabis legislation? Too bad some old farts might happen to prove handy for that...

Guys... Is it relatively easy to get a medical permit to grow and consume in Canada? Specifically Edmonton... I had a spinal injury and operation and have pain issues...

No. Not easy at all. You pretty much have to be on your death bed, or know a doctor who is open to signing the papers, and there are not many who will admit it.

Health Canada is in the process of changing the system here so that you will need to purchase from one of their designated growers. They are phasing out permits to grow your own or designate a grower.

I don't have personal experience with obtaining a card. Tweek is right about needing to find a doctor willing to sign off on it, and pain from a spinal injury is one of the few things they will accept as qualifying: Are you eligible?

It's not just the CACP, Crown Attorneys and judges don't want to deal with simple possession for small amounts either. I can't speak for Edmonton, but here in the GTA it is fairly easy and safe to obtain and use small amounts (under 30g). It's probably more of a hassle to have a card and try to be 100% legal.

President and Vancouver Police Department chief Jim Chu, also proposed ticketing and fining people as mentioned in this recent local paper article about a Vancouver Island cop during his off-duty hours canvassing for Sensible BC campaign for a marijuana referendum.

Even worse. Isn't it true the Collège des Médecins (Québec's doctor's professional association) actually recommends its members to avoid getting involved or something along those lines, essentially?...

Yep. Dr's are warned not to sign, as it can cause problems with their insurance, etc. That is just not right at all. :disgust:

In my case it was very easy!!
All in all it took about a month to get the license, most of that time was because my Dr forgot the forms at his house...
Just be open and honest with your family Dr, if he/she is remotely in this age they will sign the documents for you.
It is unfortunately too late in the game to apply now, hopefully this April 2014 garbage never sees the light of day!

I also have some serious health issues and Auto-Immune diseases that MMJ helps with!

You were lucky, and your experience is not common, unfortunately. There have been cases of dying patients, unable to get a card because their doctor was so uptight about it. And I don't blame them...there have been a couple of docs who have had their offices raided as a result of being more willing to sign than other doctors. The medical marijuana system in Canada is a big joke. It was a half assed attempt by the government that will just keep getting worse, until we get someone in office who is a modern, forward thinker.

The age of your doctors makes little difference...I have spoken to old people who support pot and young people who think it's evil. The risks for doctors in this country, are still too great at the moment.

All you can do is try, I suppose. But I really hope there is change for the better real soon.

Thanx for the info guys... It seems like Canada is still very stiff with our favorite herb....

Decided to go somewhere where it's decriminalized to save myself from further trouble. Take a look here if you have the time!

Thanx again all! I hope I can visit sometime! :)

The Federal NDP has had legalization of cannabis on their platform since 2011.

*"Mulcair had created confusion about his party's position on March 18 when he said decriminalization would be "a mistake" because of the health risks associated with marijuana currently on the market.*

*But NDP spokesman George Soule said Friday that Mulcair was actually talking about legalization and said the NDP leader doesn't believe anyone should go to jail for possessing a small amount of marijuana."*

This isn't correct. The NDP supports decriminalization, not legalization. There's a huge difference.

I'm confused. Which message do you mean?

    @MattBot
said the NDP had legalization in their platform, but they don't and never have. They support decriminalization, which doesn't make cannabis legal, it simply removes it from the criminal system. You can't be arrested but you will be fined and your stash confiscated, and probably your vapourizer as well. Medical card holders excepted, you still won't be able to buy or possess cannabis legally. What Justin Trudeau proposes is complete legalization, such as we see happening in Colorado and Washington.

the two "" statements enforcing Soule correcting the statement being made about Mulcair using the word legalization when he meant decriminalization.

** I didn't read your post properly and missed the quote you were referring to. We are in agreement in both cases in the end ;)

    Salutations,

No matter who's the politician speaking or what's the approach (legalization vs decriminalisation, etc.), the cannabic patients of Canada have become increasingly worried lately and one of them has clearly expressed her concerns on TV news last night:

It was aired on the French portion of Canada's public TV (SRC).

Briefly put she explained that the cost for her medecine (2 cannabis oil caps a day) will explode on April 1st, not to mention there also appears to be a risk of supply shortage on top of that. So, we easily understand that's no viable scenario for her and hence she thinks about growing her own medecine anyway...

When one takes into account the burden which sickness alone already implies it seems quite unreasonable of our conservative leaders to add an artificially inflated bill on top of it, IMO!

    :mental:

A couple weeks ago Charles Bury made the news because he used cannabis in his hospital room, trying to find peace before he dies. And now this, a women ready to declare on national TV that she will do what she must in order to fight a cancer, after her doctor tagged the cannabic treatment as miraculous...

Lets not forget those are the very same persons who Health Canada sent enveloppes with the word "Marijuana" clearly visible, only to take away their right to grow themselves because of security concerns!!

By the way, this made me want to learn more about the industrials who wish to make business as soon as possible. So far it appears only 6 licenses have been distributed between Ottawa, Toronto, Saskatoon and Vancouver: Bedrocan (M4P 3E1), Canna Farms (V2X 7G1), CanniMed (S7K 3J8), Mettrum (M5M 0A3), The Peace Naturals (L0M 1S0), Tweed (K7A 0A8).

    Ref.:

A minister of the Harper government minimized the patient's preoccupations, in any case. Well, under those particular circumstances i think we can only share the patient's fears!

    Salutations everybody,

    Remember this?

Well now here's a quick update on the fate of this medical cannabis user who obtained a legit license which was supposed to help him stay at work:

« Cpl. Ron Francis, who faces two counts of assaulting police and one count of resisting arrest, was released from custody after he underwent a 30-day psychiatric assessment.

    ...

Francis was arrested Dec. 6. At the time, the RCMP said they were concerned about his well-being when they found him on a street in downtown Fredericton.

He had to be subdued with a stun gun, the Public Safety Department for Fredericton said. »

Most unfortunately none of the articles i could find actually explain in detail why the alledged "assault" even occured in the first place.

Hummm... The RCMP wanted him to have a special Christmass season to remember i guess!
