Actually that may not be a 100% accurate statement. Ill let you decide why he said what he said and meant.

    http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/21/world/asia/china-drugs-jackie-chan-son/?c=&page=1

Kung fu movie star Jackie Chan says he "takes responsibility" for the drug charges laid against his son, 32-year-old Jaycee Chan, in Beijing.

Police detained the junior Chan, who is originally from Hong Kong and also an actor, as well as Kai Ko, a 23-year-old Taiwanese actor, during a raid on August 14 in Dongcheng district, Beijing, state media said.

Police searched Jaycee Chan's apartment and found more than 100 grams of marijuana. He could face three years in jail under Chinese law.

The star of "Rush Hour" wrote that he felt "extremely furious" and "extremely shocked" at the news of his son's drug woes, adding that Jaycee's mother is "heartbroken."

"I hope that young people will see Jaycee as a cautionary tale and stay away from drugs," wrote Chan, who once campaigned against drug use and was named an anti-drugs ambassador in China in 2009.

You always were a pale shadow of Bruce Lee....

....the investigation into the cause of Bruce Lee’s death on the 3rd of September. They found a small quantity of cannabis in his stomach. On the 17th of September Linda confirmed that Bruce took cannabis now and again.

Hes lucky. Back in the day the Chinese would have shot him and billed Jackie for the bullet and burial fees.

Looks like Jackie could use a little love... roundhouse kicks to all the haters... let's start with the OP.

How did you get "not 100% accurate" out that that? He didn't say anything about my medical usage, nor did he even seem to be implying it, except for "young people". Is that really a disagreeable statement to make? Is it even appropriate to compare a person in China's opinion on drugs to someone in the west? Culturally, much different. I don't think in China stars are expected to be as much of trainwrecks as we enjoy here in the USA. Seeing a Chinese star come out with a safe, conservative viewpoint hardly seems unusual.

Pale shadow of Bruce Lee? I guess so, in terms of martial arts. Many don't know Jackie's background is in Chinese Opera, which is grueling physically, but geared more towards theatre than fighting. I would say Jackie's ability in being so long-lived as an action movie star makes Bruce the shadow. But Lee will always be a bigger cultural influence no doubt. My point is Bruce gets tons of credit, Jackie gets very little. Read some of what Jackie wrote about early silent films...Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin...the guy knows his stuff (movies).

100 grams is NOT a big deal? Where exactly in China can that statement be true? It isn't, unless we project our values on another culture. I'm not even sure of the accuracy on 'not a big deal' in the US. I'd like it to be no big deal, but it still seems like people are going to jail for their QPs everyday?

Do the posters above dislike Jackie because he's not pro-MJ? Is there really any disappointment that a conservative Asian film star would make a statement against young people doing drugs? Is it because he's not Bruce Lee, who people feel would be pro-drugs for young people? I'm honestly puzzled how Jackie got up there with Tipper Gore on people's hate lists. Guess I'll go watch Drunkenmaster or one of the other dozens of movies Jackie's made in his prolific and long-lived career. ...

Edit: might as well say it... Bruce Lee was an incredible force in martial arts and movies (I'll trade BL trivia with anyone I love him). His spirit, character just drip from his performances. His movies were pretty simple, nothing special

Did you misunderstand the first sentence in my post, or were you just looking for something to argue about? FYI what I wrote is in reference to the thread title. I though that was rather obvious but maybe not.

No I read it. Just seemed a little dodgy to make a thread title and then negate part of it in the first sentence. Far be it from me to knock sensationalism.

I don't hate Jackie that would be silly, in reality I see a father whose probably desperate to keep his son out of jail & will say just about anything to appease the Chinese authorities. It's surprising his son didn't get off just for being Jackie's son so there may be more going on here than we can see....Jackie may well have enemies within China.

Lee was like Columbus crossing the Atlantic and giving birth to a new civilisation. Jackie was the guy who came after using the navigational charts Lee created & parking his boat on the pier built by Lee....This is why Lee deserves the credit, he was a pioneer.

Jackie followed a path, Lee was the path.

Apart from being the first Lee was a martial artist first and actor second, Lee had an intensity & also a deep spiritual side.....Jackie didn't really have those things in his Dojo.

More importantly Lee's movies were better.

Really? You were talking about the thread title in your reply?

My "not 100% accurate" quote was in reference to the thread title, which you admit knowing.

That said, if you meant to discuss the "sensationalism" of my thread title, it's interesting that you only talk about JC's quote from the article in your reply to me.

    Just saying.

    Edit:
@tuk the Chinese are going after celebrities on purpose. If you read the article they talk about a crack down on actors, etc.

@Been Vapin The wife's all about Gucci bags and the like. Where in Maine can I get this free stuff? I couldn't follow the lyrics in that song.

Look out for the footage of Lee playing table tennis with Nunchucks even throwing in the odd roundhouse.

That's still some of the best CGI I've seen in a while. A couple people didn't believe me until I pulled up an article of how it was done for an advertisement. Edit: added link to snopes "fauxtography" is what they call it.

@tuk you made some great points about the differences between the two, much better stated and what I was trying to get to... one was a martial artist, the other an entertainer. What I would have loved to see is endurance tests between the two. Both had incredible conditioning, though I'd guess most would give Bruce the edge. Anyway they're both fully awesome in my book. Just wished Jackie would've gotten more love. How he was able to sustain the injuries highlighted in his blooper reels is incredible.

@Caligula my apologies if I was serious where I should have been humorous, or vice versa.

His accent is horrible, but is his acting that bad? Bruce had that one enraged constipated look down, but I don't recall thinking any of his performances were noteworthy beyond the physical aspect (which I think Chan has down better anyway). Have you seen the Big Brawl or Rumble in the Bronx? Those two I think Jackie did (relatively) well in. But yeah, I don't see him being any acting competition for Chow Yun Fat.

I don't care. I have the day off, this thread's in the lounge, fixin's for white russians stocked... sure, I'll defend Jackie.

I say give Jackie a break. He's 60 yrs. old and comes from a very anti-drug culture.

And Rush Hour 4 is in development, so no leverage there.

I can almost promise we are going to see new, full length movies with the likes of Bruce and Jackie courtesy of next generation CGI technology. I'd say within 6 years it'll be to the point where you won't be able to tell the difference between that and the actual actor.

Is this a good or bad thing? Sounds like the topic for a different thread.

So really he said what any famous person would say when their child is caught with drugs. He was outspoken against it most probably to save his image in a place where draconian laws have a history of destroying people/families at the slightest infractions.

    Not exactly a shocker.
