I’ve gotten a really weird vibe lately throughout the cannabis industry as a whole, FC included.. it seems like the community is becoming more self oriented and more about self progression instead of focusing on progression as a whole. I feel like the community was more strict on shady and shitty people before, and now everything gets swept under the rug. It’s really negative and not a good direction for the community at all. Everywhere I go I get the same vibes.. it makes me want to isolate myself, and I’ve always really enjoyed the cannabis community.. but not so much as of late.. any thoughts?..

I think that's just a side-effect of cannabis/vaporizing/etc becoming more popular. It only makes sense that within such a large group, there's bound to be some sketchy, selfish people squeaking thru the cracks just trying to make a quick buck - or whatever their motive may be, since there is obviously a market.

FC has been our respite for now. I don't think standards here necessarily need to change - people will like/do what they like. Can either choose to ignore/blacklist them etc, or further branch off! Nothing wrong either way. The main thing is not be ashamed for having standards

I've only been consuming cannabis a short while, and vaping just over a year, so I don't know what it was like "before". What do you think has changed? Did it seem to be headed in a different direction? What would lead to improvement? What would you like to see happening?

That sounds a bit vague to me. Care to expound a bit more on what you mean? I've been a cannabis user for about 15-17 years (with a couple breaks in there for job or legal reasons), but only vaporizing for a couple years, and only involved/active within the cannabis community on-line for maybe 3 years.

I think that feeling you are having is mostly from immature users . New generations are all about forums, social media and of course their favorite herb makes them think less and talk more.. I think many people have gone trough that phase at some point of their youth/life and some will never cross it,but there is hope for those guys... Hopefully they will stick around and learn how to behave from the Good Examples of this community.. There are great contributing members around and people should just try to be more like them and less like the unpleasant "teenies"/newbiews that roam around from time to time..

Well, I'll take the opportunity to vent. I've only been a member for a year & eight months. While I understand that there's only so much one can say about any vape & it becomes just as much about the vape's community as it is the vape itself, I noticed that the last round or two of new members want answers, but don't want to invest the time to read the thread to get them & learn. I love to be helpful, but I'm not here to be used. I'm so over answering redundant questions; it's all so tiresome & played out. So I don't. And I know many of them are reading/following the thread but can't seem to remember what they've read or don't read for comprehension as they ask questions that were answered within the last page or 2. & I also find they ask & say the dumbest things. Often, their posts are so unintelligible -- I don't even understand what they are saying. Don't know if they are stoners who just like to post to hear themselves talk or are intellectually challenged. And the 1 thing that really pisses me off with these newbies is that you answer someone's question & they can't even bother to give you a like. And it's not the like that matters, it's the tip-of-the-hat thank you that does.

I hate to feel & be like this, but I do & I am.

@Summer Well being mature is not that much a matter of being longterm member or old in age .I've met 10 year olds that behave more maturely at times than i do,but also feel at the same time that i am behaving more adequate than people 2-3 times my age :D...
On the other hand i wish i could meet the same percentage of cool people in real life as i do here on FC. Most of Humanity sux,i dont know if i am just a hater ,but i do feel that way... so i can say we got a pretty good ratio of COOL vs Not so cool people here compared to what i have to deal with in real life... and probably because of that it makes those forementioned blockheads "shine brighter" due to the contrast :D...

I don’t see any issues. Other than it’s becoming more of a norm and removing the negative connotations associated with it. Especially when it comes to cultivation. Everyone is so open about it, helpful, and resourceful. Everyone in it for themselves, I don’t see it like that. Yeah there are a few. There will always be a few.

If I misread or misinterpreted this, my bad. Daylight savings time is kicking my ass.

Excellent points, @Abysmal Vapor. I often find myself thinking there must be people in my community that are as cool as some on FC. They must be off getting vaked, and I don't see them because I'm off getting vaked...I'm also pleased, so pleased, there is an ignore button, so on the times I think I just CAN'T, I don't have to.
I did read the entirety of the SSV, Arizer EQ, and Super Surfer threads, then continued on to read as much as FC as I can. I thought I'd never get through the Arizer EQ thread, but when I did, I missed it and kept going. There is a new fellow, @Altreac, valiantly making his way through the EQ thread now, trying to learn about his vape and FC. It might help to remember that some of these threads are quite long. A few hundred pages might be reasonable, but some are many times that, and go back many years. I just bought a Solo and an Arizer Air, and headed over to the relevant threads. The Air thread comes in at 410. Not so bad, but the Solo thread is 1611 pages, and goes back to 2011. It's a great thread, worthy of a read, but few people even have time for that. So where do you start to get the information you need ? Back 200 pages ? 20 ? 2? I've been reading both threads all week, and when my vapes came, I remembered nothing in the excitement, and the first thing I wanted to do was share that excitement with some friends on FC, and ask questions. Having been here a year, I knew you don't go to the end of a 1611 page thread, and ask, "how do I turn this on?" If I'd bought it, and then stumbled on the thread, I might have started at the end. Then been jumped for it, and quit the site out of mortification. The rough and tumble is rough.

  12. I used to think this way about my main community – musicians. It caused me a lot of angst over time. The most helpful thing I've found to free myself from this angst is to give up the notion that there is a community in the first place – or at least that it's some sort of monolithic entity that remains untouched by the vicissitudes of history, or that it should be the way that I envision it (or that I've been lucky enough to hit upon a 'true' or correct vision of it in the first place).

I came instead to realize and accept that it's not so much that any apparent (or real) 'community' has changed, but that all things are touched by one constant and unchangeable dynamic in life: change itself.

The industry is and has been going through severe changes.
Reputation used to be everything and now the"consumer"wants ditchweed the government is trying to run it and the first step is eliminate anyone who actually knows what they are doing.

@Madri-Gal While having 1000 page longs thread makes it hard to find things, there is the magic of the searchbar... so noone is excused unless he doesnt know how to use one,and again it is not much of a learning obstacle :).
Alternatively one can google Fuckcombustion.com + key word and everything pops up :).

Isn't that handy to know ? You do pick it up after awhile. It's the first bit of being here that's confusing. I don't mind the slow slog, and will end up finishing both Solo and Air threads, but I am externally grateful for the kind FC members that welcomed and taught me when I was new. When I first got here, I was trapped in a terrible and dangerous situation. My mentally ill son (psychopath, bipolar) was putting his meds in my food, and beating me regularly, and FC in the was the only way I could connect with anyone. In the middle of the night, I would read about the Arizer EQ, and was introduced to many fine members on FC. I saw the rise of DDave Mods, and reached out to DDave, who shone a light for me as I was heading out of the darkness ( Thank you, @DDave.) I saw the respect people paid @Vitolo and @ataxian, and I read on and saw why. After my son was out, FC was there for me to learn about vapes and the community. When I think about this past year, I don't know how or where I would have found the support I found at FC. Of course, there were doctor's , therapy, and such, but the people I talked to were on FC and in the community as I know it. Talking about vapes, and cannabis, and reading about DYI and mods, and Ewoks and rosin gave me a chance to talk to people as myself. I wasn't as stupid, useless and unwelcome as I was told. When my son would tell me over and over, that I was useless and had no friends, and should just kill myself, I thought of FC, and knew I belonged somewhere.
Well, as long as I use the search bar, and don't double post.

    Interesting read here for sure.

Tough story @Madri-Gal. Glad it sounds like things are working out for you though.

While still leaning a lot about this site and search functions etc, I can add one point of view: being new, without much background on vapes in general, sometimes it's hard to know what questions to ask. Getting decent search results are fairly easy when you know how to ask the questions.

I agree, some basic questions are easy to search. And I've seen lots of examples of questions getting asked that were answered the page before, so it's definitely a valid complaint saying some people just don't try.

Thousands plus pages are certainly daunting to think about starting, or finishing.

About the cannabis community, it's been great so far in Canada since legalization.
I can't speak to the climate on the site, I only joined this past November and I'm just getting to know my way around a little, but it's been so much more relaxed North of the border regarding cannabis. I would never have posted openly about cannabis before. So I've seen mostly positive changes over the last few months.

There are those of us who never read the manual, never search the inter webs and just want to be told how it works, whereas there are those of us who search the far reaches of the inter webs and just need to know every intricacy. Both of varying degrees make up this site and there needs to be enough of the latter willing too share to make this site work. How do you reward the latter enough to elicit more engagement from the "I just want to be told?"

This is the only community I belong to other than an online Gay political blog I follow. I am very comfortable here, and I don't see a diminishment in courtesy in the Forum. Granted, the Mods take care of any significant aberration: they keep the Forum on an even Keel. Everyone should feel free to ask questions: no one can know it all. All you have to do is point to where it's been answered before.

But then you're back to having to invest time in searching to locate where the answer is.

That's the neat thing about a community of users such as ours. Someone will answer the question, or not. Not all questions get answered. OF and Vitalo patiently answer the same questions over and over again because they want to help the new user. Some of us are teachers at heart. Sharing knowledge is cool.

All communities change over time. This place is still light years ahead in terms of member maturity compared to some places.

The community I grew up in as a kid, while it looks the same, has a different culture now.
My skiing community has been growing over the past few years. As one of the OG’s, I already know that I won’t be seeing them much next season and I haven’t told them.
My work community is reorganizing, again. 5th re-org since 2008. At least my Jon is stable.

    Change is a Universal constant.
