I have been vaping for the last 3 months (wondering when auto correct is going to get 'vaping' as a word, rather than trying to change 'vape' to 'tape' or "vaping" to "vamping" but I digress). I have asthma. I am using VaporBlunt 1.0, which in my honest opinion is a pretty harsh smoke. I have never smoked cigarettes and just came back to vaping cannabis, for chronic pain. I have not smoked 'weed' since 1979 (from joints or pipes). I was also in a furnace fire (exposed to petroleum irritants) in 1993.
here's the deal: it's pretty harsh on my throat. I have to keep drinking water (more like gulping) while I am vaping to avoid coughing like crazy. I also sucking on jelly beans to try to keep the water consumption down, because I'm drinking literally 32 ozs just for one vape load in the Blunt. It doesn't seem to matter the THC level (it's happening with Cannatonic which is really low THC, all the way to Crater lake and Pit Bull, which are higher in THC levels). Because the vaporizer has two temps 390-410, I tend to first turn it to 410 to get the heat up, then turn it down; still too hot!! It smells "hot" if you know what I mean! It's been a long time since I've used cannabis, so I am wondering if it is the vaporizer (smoking just too hot) or my asthma, or if it is my weed being too green? I notice that the ABV is a steady brown not black, and that it makes good brownies (which seems to be better than the smoking experience)…is this about getting a better quality vape? Or should I be looking at a water cure for this pipe?
Open to all ideas including just getting a volcano or whatever; in the end this to get a bit better for me to enjoy it, while I am medicating. Any help is appreciated! We also will be looking at making Cannatonic tincture soon….any help on that would also be appreciated!! Thank you in advance!

I havent tried the vaporblunt personally but if it is anything like the pinnacle pro then it may make the vapor a little on the harsh side. You could try pairing it up with a small bong to get some diffusion. If that doesnt help enough it may be the vapor produced may be to harsh for your lungs and want to start looking for a replacement that will be smoother. I know my Ascent has the smoothest vapor out of the units ive tried but im sure there are plenty of others that are just as smooth you could take a look at. Hope i could help

haven't tried the vaporblunt either, but do you know anyone with any of the Arizer vaporizers? Very smooth hitters and adjustable temps!

The water tool suggestion is great! If you can get a water tool that accomodates ice, even better!

Smoothest vaporizer from all the ones I have tested and owned so far is the Lotus and I am hoping the FF will be at least as smooth. People so far say it is. I have a very sensitive throat. I only drink water and various teas… A warm honey sweetened tea is much better than plain water. It would also help if you just take a couple of hits and be done. You need a hard hitter and smooth one at the same time. None of my previous session vapes could cut it. And since a session is tougher to the throat due to extended exposure to heat a heat-on-demand vape is the way to go imo... Solo included! Get a Lotus for cheeps or FF for the luxury of battery operation. You'll be a happy vaporist!!!

Hey thanks! I am hoping that the guy who sold me the blunt online can let me know if Vaporblunt (the earlier version) can use the water attachment that they now sell for the later versions. (I guess I am not alone in this problem!)

Arizer, nope haven't heard of this particular product but will check into it.

Not sure what FF is, but I certainly will look at the Lotus (grass city have it?) and The hot tea sounds better than water for sure; I didn't pair that Idea up, but that's a good one!! I am certainly open to new ideas to deal with this, because it currently is making vaping a hard experience. I am having to take about 7-10 pulls to get an affect, because I don't want to inhale too deep (with the dang coughing) and just holding it in my mouth (not doing the old reefer pull like smoking) towards the back, for a considerable amount of time. And thank you very much!

Maybe start at the 390 level instead? Maybe don't even go higher than that, if it's hurting.

But I would just get a different vaporizer. Arizer Solo is great for beginners and experts alike and will be much smoother than that Blunt. Good price too. Puffitup.com is probably the best place to go for a US purchase because the customer service is so dependable and they will honor warranties with no fuss.

Firefly (FF) is another great option. It's new and pricey, but is having a great start and the company seems solid. I adore mine.

Ascent is smooth and tastes great but the unit itself is still a little iffy, as is the company, in my opinion. I'm on my third one, FWIW. Still really like it.

Haven't tried the Lotus, but have heard great things if you don't mind the torch aspect.

You definitely sound like someone who should be using some kind of water tool. Probably one with plenty of diffusion.

    Just my :2c:

Wow, wow, wow!!! THANK YOU!! I usually turn the thing down as soon as it finally "ignites", keeping it on the higher level only to get the herb to light up (if you start it on low, the first 3 draws tasted like "wet dog" without any vape smoke, kind of nasty). I will be looking at these other vapes, because it is pretty harsh. AND must agree I am going to look at a water tool for certain, because my poor lungs can't take too much assault. PS the Blunt wasn't cheap, but it's a good start. I am sure for other people, it's a fine vaporizer, but for me, just too blang hot on the lungs!

I would look into getting a water piece before a new vape. I don't even cough when I vape through water.

Sounds as though your material might not be dry enough? Or maybe it's just some bad granola. A "wet dog" taste is certainly not ideal.

Gotta have the good shit to vaporize! :science:

The VaporBlunt can use a water tool attachment, I have one here actually. That being said, you will probably be better off using water filtration moving forward, due to your lung issues. This will help catch alot of the plant particles that may cause you discomfort.

Outside of that, you should try vaping as low as possible for your needs. Higher temps will always tend to be harsher.

LOLOL , well one of the dispensaries that we tried their stuff was looking "too green" with big (read HUGE) buds so I am assuming it wasn't dry at all! We ground it as soon as we got it, to avoid mold. The other stuff we got at another dispensary and (it seems) regardless of dryness the stuff still needs the higher start (or it does not produce any vapor) but certainly TASTES better!! LOL

Thanks Tweek! Moving forward???? Not sure what that refers to! But certainly I do turn it down as soon as it hits temperature and don't turn it up, unless the product is just plain WET! (boy oh boy, been thinking of getting a hooka at this point!)

And as I said to Tweek, maybe i should just get a sha hooka!

Warm/Hot water in a water tool will smooth the vapor out much better for me then cold water/ice. Also try staying on the lower temp, it may take a half dozen hits before you do get any real visible vapor.

With lung issues, I wouldn't go with a Hookah personally. It's not really vaporizing, IMO and not great for your lungs in the long run.

Wow, fantastic…how do you do that????? And thank you for the information about the hits before vapor, because, that didn't come with the instructions! Happy to wait a bit, not an issue. Was wondering though, normal to have to smoke the whole bit before feeling anything? When i used a pipe (or joint) ONE hit had me almost out. So a little surprised that it takes that much more to get any feeling of change. (Or it could just be used to earlier weed)...

Do you use (with the warm water) distilled or anything…that's what I was wondering.

I just use hot tap water, I have a deep well not city water. distilled or spring water works fine you just have to heat it up. not boiling but close..

Also @ceresmary206 you want to avoid making Back to Back posts, use that there edit feature at the bottom left of your last post.

Thanks for this!! Got back to husband…we're going to start with the tea. I got the notice from the vapor guy, the attachment is $100.00. For right now (with being on SSDI), I am just going start with the tea, save up for an attachment (and also start tincturing the Cannatonic). B'cause it make be awhile before we can do another payout, whether for a new tape or an attachment. And Tweek, I was more joking than really going to do it, but thank you everyone!! And I will keep all of this in mind including the website, which I saved in favorite places (the vapor selling site). VERY much appreciated all the comments, really. Thank you all!

I'm not sure if it's possible (you may want to check the VaporBlunt thread in the portable section) maybe you can add a length of silicone tubing/short whip to the vaporblunt as that will help cool the vapor a lot.

People DIY their vaporizers to use cheap or homemade watertools, bongs and bubblers all the time.

A little whip and one of @Vitolo 's 49 cent bubblers is still my goto when vapor is bothering my throat or lungs (do a search of $0.49 bubbler I think you'll find it)

There are also some do-it-yourself tools if you search "vapor lung" you will find one.

@ceresmary206 - it may be possible to sell the VB and get something that suits you better? Desktop (plugin) units usually work the best if you don't need portability. We have a classified section where you can buy pre-owned gear. There's a thread http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/cheap-high-quality-bubbler.5255/
about some inexpensive ($30) watertools direct from China, if you are interested.
Since you go to a dispensary, is it possible to make a friend there, who might let you try another vaporizer?
If it's that hard for you to inhale the vapor (even though your current one is harsh), maybe vaping is not right for you, and edibles/tinctures would be better?

This may be back to back response, since I don't understand how not to do that (forgive me moderator, hard enough to have cerebral palsy, typing and dyslexia combined…the instructions would need to be oral for me to understand this or with a pictorial youtube explanation for me to get how to do the procedure other than 'reply'). Pigfoot, I am certainly going to look at this!! Since husband (who also has CP, maybe getting his license before the year is out, the vaporizer stays til we know if it can benefit him). I am moving more into edibles and tinctures, since I have had severe lung issues: a collapsed left lung and later an embolism there in "ol' leftie", plus asthma….I am going down for the count on inhaling anything but air! But I certainly am going to give it the college try and go look at the bubbler. Right now, making some pretty good ABV brownies (once I learned NOT to put the 'dough' on glass, but use parchment paper which keeps the oils active into the mix, rather than burn off into the pan and keep the temp at 325 degrees rather than 350 recommended with a tbls of duff). We're leaning more in this direction, because the coughing ordeal is just a bit much every night. And hopefully moving into Tinctures once we get a good recipe down (most of our pre made tinctures in the area DONT include much ingredient information, like THC levels or CBD information) so I would prefer to do that ourselves. And thanks everyone!
