How to clean vape parts and reclaim resin

2clicker, the taste of the 'wand resin' is really quite weird IME as well. I personally have had to use a higher temp. (when using a variable temp. vape) to really get the best out of it. I wouldn't worry about the ISO, you'd know if there was still some left I'm sure, both visually and definitely by taste.

well ive vaped the "wand hash" that ive scraped before and it did not taste like this stuff. but this is a combination of some residual wand resin (after a scraping) and whatever trichs were caked to my grinder. this is my first time using iso and evaping. its obvious there is no liquid left in this stuff. its dry and sticky. but when i hit it straight through the whip it tastes like chemicals. when i use a water piece its much less noticable, but i still cant get around the taste of it w/out the water diffusion. like i said it gets me plenty high, but im still concerned about the taste. maybe its nothing to worry about...

could the iso have effected the taste even though its completely evaped?

i have just vaped it through my DBV and i gotta say using it normal whip style it tastes kinda funny... almost like chemicals...? is that right? shouldnt all the iso have evaped by now? the material i put into the wand was kinda dry and sticky... when using my beaker the taste was much less noticeable.

The evaporation techniques described in the OP should get the alcohol out. Are you sure your alcohol is pure isopropyl and water?

You mentioned you used the same alcohol to clean your grinder, it's possible that could have added something to the mixture. Grinders aren't table ready clean when you buy them. Also the coatings on some may be affected by iso. Really anything that came into contact with the resin or alcohol could 'contaminate' the product. Some people have noticed a 'plastic-y' taste to resin scraped out of whip tubing.

yeah the iso is 91%. here is a link.

next time i wont be soaking a grinder. ill see if that changes the taste.

thanks

*EDIT*
i just scraped a wand, but there was a considerable amount left stuck to the glass. so i grabbed the ISO plugged the wand with a finger, poured a little ISO in, plugged the other end and shook it about for a few mins. the wand was clean and i had some dirty looking ISO that i poured into a pyrex dish. it was such a small amount and full of good stuff that it didnt even spread out much when i poured it on the dish. it reminded me of maple syrup. so its been about a 1/2 hour and its almost completely evaped. considering the size of the "puddle" there seems be a nice layer ready for scraping. ill scrape and taste in a bit.

anyway, this time no grinder so we shall see if it tastes any different.

i tried this for the first time and these were my results.

this is ONLY from my wand. i vape about 1gram a day through it, sometimes more. i have been letting it collect since around may.

i havent tasted it yet but when i do ill update with how it tastes. it looks/feels syrupy, almost like maple syrup.

I've been lurking this forum for a few months now and finally got an account. I have a mflb and have been saving the "honey oil" in it for a while now and its getting pretty goo'd up. I've been lookin around to try and find a thread i saw a while back on how to reclaim this honey oil, but can't seem to find it for the life of me.

So my question is, can i just soak my mflb mouth piece/tube in 91% iso to reclaim it or should i get it out another way? What I've done in the past is use a small allen wrench to scrape it all out, but i want to make some qwiso with it more, it would seem more effective. Any help would be awesome, thanks!

Do NOT soak your stem in iso!! It will cloud the plastic and could warp it. If you can get through the MFLB thread, there are some tips in it on how to reclaim. Personally, I don't bother with reclaiming with the LB. I just dip the tip of a pipe cleaner in iso and push it through. However, it's not my main vape so there isn't a large amount to reclaim.

i've found that a bamboo skewer with a tinytiny bit of iso on the end will allow you to harvest some wand hash, just don't soak the stem in the iso. it will seem fine at first, but then will shatter as cracks start to form. just take my word for it ;) i have ordered some stainless steel straws that will hopefully take the place of the acrylic stem and actually be safely cleanable.
the skewer seems to fit the inner diameter of the stem perfectly and allows it to be pushed out in a wad. I've found that a toothpick works well to clean the goo under the screen (be careful!) once it has accumulated enough. I put these little balls of goo in the bottom of my grinder chamber so they collect kif. I read that here on FC somewhere.

"kiffy wandhash balls" yum. and boy do they pack a punch when vaped on top of a trench. lasts forever!

Some great tips herbgirl. Thanks. :)

Where were you able to find the stainless straws?

mom, i posted this in the MFLB forum, just copied it to here. i have not yet received them.

~found these stainless steel straws and i think they may make a nice stem to replace the acrylic if the given measurements of 1/4 inch od are accurate, that is. iirc, magicflight (maybe) said a while back in this thread that the box hole will fit a standard sized drinking straw.
lol, they are called "Short Small Child Martini Swizzles"

http://www.amazon.com/STAINLESS-Swizzle pd_sbs_k_9

if they would get too hot, I could use a snippet of the silicone whip tubing on the end of it a la the old proto pipes with the rubber on the end.~

Simply for cleaning purpose, has anyone tried white vinegar?

I use white vinegar to clean damn near everything in my home but never thought to try it on my pieces. not sure if it would work or not.

i usually take a couple of empty pulls off the wand on high then scrape it out easy with a piece of notebook wire.

Great idea. Heat will typically loosen the resin and make it much easier to scrape off.

One thing to note - *DONT* vape this lovely goo during the WORK WEEK!

I vaped a (very small) ball of this with some herb in my Supreme last night and oh boy...

Definitely a weekend experience!

those of you using iso to make wand hash etc etc, i don't wish to sound like a prude but i'm choosing vaping because of health and the iso way just seems a lot easier (to wash the wands and gather the hash) so i just need some clarification from the 'scientific' minds from this community. just how safe is it? i was googling and read this

"With respect to the potential for toxic residues, the first MSDS (Materials Safety Data Sheet) says, "Small quantities of peroxides can form on prolonged storage. Exposure to light and/or air significantly increases the rate of peroxide formation. If evaporated to a residue, the mixture of peroxides and isopropanol may explode when exposed to heat or shock."

Finally, with respect to handling isopropanol, both sheets suggest wearing gloves: "Protective gloves: Rubber, neoprene, PVC, or equivalent.", and "Wear impervious protective clothing, including boots, gloves, lab coat, apron or coveralls, as appropriate, to prevent skin contact. Neoprene and nitrile rubber are recommended materials."

And is iso is supposed to be dangerous to consume because the chemical element has been altered or because something has been added to it? Although the iso may look cleanly evaporated, who knows what residual chemicals have been 'molded' to your hash during the washing/storing process? it may smoke or vape right but who knows what the long term affects are if there are harmful residual chemicals.

any comments.

ISO makes wand hash taste like shit, and yes you can vape wand hash. i do it all the time. my method is i take a nice little bit of hash and roll it around in a bit of kief so its a bit easier to work with and not sticking to your finger, then i flatten the ball a bit into a shape that resembles a pancake. put a small amount of bud into the wand and put the pancake on top. presto. never have a problem with it melting to my wand and it last for a very, very long time. obviously this would not work in some vapes like launch box or a log vape [no disrespect, love those too] but it works great in my DBV and sure you would have similar results in most whip style vapes. :D

I've had success with wand hash, qwiso and bho with my log vape.

but yeah, would never put wand hash in my lb.

I have stopped using ISO because I also didn't like the taste of it in my wand hash, and was a little concerned about how safe it was. I'm now using 151 (I can't get Everlear), which works much better at cleaning the glass parts of my vapes. I reuse it until it no longer cleans, strain it, and evaporate it down to make candy with it. You could also evaporate the alcohol out and make wand hash, although I haven't tried it yet. I would have to believe this is safer than ISO. The only thing I still use ISO for is cleaning the stem of my LB with a little on a pipe cleaner. I haven't invested in stainless straws for it yet and this is the easiest way I've found to clean them. Of course, the resin is wasted this way.

the pharmacy near my place i can only find methylated spirit, i read that this can be used but like ISO, the evaporation must be complete. Anyone ever try the ever dependable vinegar for cleaning the wand and making wand hash?

What is the clear gooey stuff around the mouth piece connection? (I'm using a No2) It's not dark like the resin described on here.

Found a great way to clean silicon whip tubing.

Get a string a little longer than the tubing. Put the string through the tubing. The easiest way is to draw air through the tube and let the string feed in until it gets to your mouth.
Tie a small ball of cotton on one end of the string and soak it in everclear.
Pull the string and cotton ball through the tubing.
May need to repeat a couple of times.

Best way to clean my silver surfer vape? (merged)

hey all,

I bought a Silver Surfer a while back and I love it (I quit smoking tobacco 8 weeks ago tomorrow, largely due to the SSV) but I have a couple of questions for those that might be more familiar with it:

1. The screens clog up very quickly (usually within a day) and although I scrape them after each use with the provided wand, I still find myself replacing them every day or two - I'm a reasonably heavy user but wanted to know if this was considered 'normal'?

2. I have never owned a vape before and I have no idea how to clean the glass part of the whip (sorry if I'm not familiar with the correct terms) which is currently all dirty and blackened from use. I have read that if you clean it right you can get some residue that is nice and strong but I have no idea how to start cleaning it and preserve the stuff inside (my way to 'clean' it would probably not net me anything!).

Any suggestions for these questions would be greatly appreciated!
