Herb Grinders

MY 4-piece scs's yield a decent amount of keif, always a nice treat or for when you run out of flowers or want an extra kick.

Aye, likewise with mine although I feel the screen can get gunked up really easily with sticky strains, so a quick ISO wash does wonders if you want to keep catching that pollen :)

I've never had to iso the screens in my 4-piece scs's. But that brings up something interesting, in that I think that the medium scs is a better buy than the large. The medium holds just as much as the large in its chamber, because while its diameter is less it is taller. It doesn't grind quite as much at a time though.

Also my silver medium hardly ever needs cleaning, while my rasta large needs to have its top ridges iso'd quite often to maintain ease of operation. I don't know if it's due to a different design, or if it has something to do with the silver color as opposed to the multi-colored rasta anodizing. I'm guessing the latter.

It all depends the way you use them. I always have two or three grinders, that I put 2g's in grind and bounce between strains. If its a three piece u get everything. If it bounces on a screen u get kief but you are getting robbed. I have both kief is nice to add on a bad day.
@t-dub how big is that 3pc SCS is it 2.25 or2 1/4"I've been waiting for the Lg version, right now my 3pc is a mendo with screen removed.

Not t-dub but have a SCS 3 piece and love it. It's not 2.25 or 2 1/4 which are the same---typo? :)
Mine yardstick hasn't been calibrated this year so best I can do is:

Less than 2 1/4" It is about 2" plus 2/3 of the 1/4 inch. Or maybe 3/4 of the 1/4 inch mark.
So about 2 1/6" or 2 3/16"
I love that size.

I had used it to grind very dense but very dank sativa and it worked flawless.

I had some indica which seemed WAY bushy/loose, not dense. It was also very sticky.
It would grind into fairly big hunks and then hang up/ not go thru the holes.
But love it

Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see how a 3 piece benefits more than a 4 piece or even a 2 piece. Grinding will knock off trichs regardless of a screen being there. Only thing the screen does is separate the two, which can easily be reacquainted with each other.

As opposed to a 4 piece "robbing" you, I see it more as a savings account lol if you wish to use it now you can though. But I just don't see why a 3 piece would be favored over a 4 piece.

All about personal preference in the end. I know my two piece puffitup grinder gets plenty of use alongside my 4 piece SCS. Sometimes I will even run herb thru the 2 after it goes thru the 4, depending on the bud and also the tool I am using for consumption. Would love to add a large 2 piece SCS but that'll have to wait. My small (aka perfect size) 3 piece SCS is away waiting to be bought into a better home lol

Interesting item on Massdrop, the SLX (pronounced "Slix") grinder. They claim to have coated the interior with a food safe ceramic coating that does not get gummed up. Drop price is $36.99 for their 4 piece version. Their website also shows a 2 piece.

What, exactly, is our coating made from?
It's based on components used to reduce friction on industrial blades and cutting tools. It will never chip, flake, or burn. That wouldn't be cool, would it?

The exceptional non-stick capabilities come from a ceramic compound - not PTFE, Teflon, or any other carcinogenic chemicals. Bound at the molecular level with the aluminum our grinders are machined from, it's as strong as steel and slick as grease.

Our coating has zero Teflon, PTFE, or other toxic chemicals. It’s completely inert, and 100% FDA certified for food contact.

I would seriously consider that SLX if it wasn't presented with such a shoddy image. It looks like it was given away at an event instead of being a premium purchase, just surprised there's not a website addr... oh wait.

Evidently the company when asked responded that they prefer that look. Yeah.

As for the SCS 3 piece over the 4 piece - I grind it, I want to vape it! Letting the heads mix after grinding various strains kinda leaves a mutt taste... But that's me, more often than not (BUT SOMETIMES NOT!), and even if you agree with me you should still mix it up from time to time ;)

Fair enough. It seems the mixing of different strain trichs slipped my mind.

That brings me to this...what makes a 3 piece better than a two piece? Grind consistency could be one issue but a simple half/full twist wouldn't result in an ultra fine grind if that's the fear. And one can certainly store herb in a 2 piece if that is a factor as well.

In a 3 piece, you don't have to dump your grind out on the table (or tray, etc) to load, and can load directly from the collection chamber.

It means less handling and overall less trichs on the table, your fingers, and elsewhere. 4 piece accomplishes this as well as the 3 piece.

What about 4 piece?

That depends if you like a 4 piece style and the kief catcher function. I originally bought a 4 piece, thinking I'd like to collect kief.
After getting the SCS 3 piece, I quickly decided that I wanted all of the goodies from each grind to go in my vaporizers. Quickly came to use only the 3 piece.

Some here love to collect kief so they get the 4 piece

+1 for the SCS. Crazy to think it took this long for someone to come up with the shredder's tooth design. Mine has worked great.

Keep in mind, the Small size SCS is more like a medium. Can't go wrong with any size but don't want you ordering a large while really expecting what the Small is. I'm sure you have a ruler and probably don't need me to tell you that tho lol good luck

Well almost a month and a half of me using the Cosmic Case 4 piece 2.75" model.

Zero complaints whatsoever*. Probably had roughly 1oz of bud go through and no cleaning involved at all and still turns smoothly - even better - there's hardly any residue build up on either male or female section walls.
Kief collection has also been pretty on-point, measured just shy of 0.5g before that was devoured for 4/20, and there's been no hints of green in the kief either.

Still fluffs the bud up when used the right-way up, and gets much finer when used upside-down (which I've not been doing).

*Actually come to think of it, I do have one complaint although it's minor. There's a fair amount of trichome coverage on the teeth (from normal use). Honestly it doesn't bother me though - what's deposited on one grind may get picked up by the bud dropping through, on the next grind.
I'll try and get a picture tonight to show the minimal residue left.

Gotta rep' the love for the Cosmic Case - not many people use them - but they're the original SCS & Space Case company so not much can go wrong.
