Healing Wounds

I just had surgery on my foot this morning and before I went in I was told not to smoke because it slows the healing process.

I managed to find this after a quick google search

Smokers take longer to heal after having surgery than nonsmokers do. Smoking causes several different changes in your body that interfere with healing, including the following:

* Smoking causes blood vessels to tighten up, and this decreases the flow of blood to the healing area. With less blood, it's harder for damaged tissues to get the nutrients and oxygen they need to heal properly.
* Smoking decreases the level of oxygen in the blood. Healing tissues need plenty of oxygen, but they don't get it if you're a smoker.
* Smoking decreases the formation of collagen -- a kind of connective tissue that is needed for a wound to heal properly.
* Smoking increases the level of hydrogen cyanide in the bloodstream, and this makes it harder for chemicals in the body to transport oxygen from cell to cell -- an action that is necessary for healing.

Because of poor healing, smokers are much more likely than nonsmokers to have poor results from plastic surgery. In fact, doctors sometimes recommend that people who smoke shouldn't have certain types of plastic surgery at all because it's so likely that the operation will turn out badly.

Its from a plastic surgery site which is probably irrelevant but my question is does vaporization have the same bad side effects? I have some real good buds right now (warlock and one beautiful nug of trainwreck) and it would help my pain, boredom and sanity to have a few hits from the vape throughout the day.

GREAT question. Hopefully, someone here will have the answer and for your sake, I hope to God that it is a qualified answer and not a guess.

Ooohhh!! I know this one.... Sister recently had to have a surgery. They told her the same thing about smoking hindering healing. She whipped out her e-cig and asked about vaping - they queried the doctor and he said that was fine! Then she went out on a limb and asked what about vaping MJ (she loves her little LB). They said vaping it was fine, smoking it no :D

Good luck!

Thanks for posting this lo. I appreciate it. I had just had a medical MJ evaluation last week and my prick doctor turned me down because 'it is addictive and causes cancer'

I'd be making a issue out of that. An idiot with authority is the worst kind. What's the deal with handling opinionated ignorance (a form of incompetence) in doctors around your parts?

EDIT I mean why would he even offer an MJ evaluation to begin with if he had this dogma blocking his brain all along?

^^^ THIS. It clearly was not a true mmj evaluation. Get a new doctor!

There aren't any examinations such as 'true' medical marijuana evaluations done in Canada; it's done entirely at the discretion of the doctors (and they get their $90 consultation fee for a visit regardless of what the visit was for or involved). No, he was pretty/very close minded, and I am essentially stonewalled by this doctor. It isn't easy to find a new general practitioner unless you're willing to doctor shop.

With regard to medical marijuana at least, the onus is on the patient to find and fill out all of the forms, and the deck is stacked against them because Health Canada leaves the decision making to the doctor with little or no recourse. I do have a scheduled appointment with a kidney specialist in August (this was scheduled a year in advance), and this doctor is younger and more open minded. And while I don't think he would sign my papers, I'm fairly sure he would make a referral for me.

Just to clarify matters, he was not offering an MJ evaluation, I demanded one, and had medical and scientific evidence to support me. He chose not to cooperate.

Fair enough. Well maybe you could send him a few studies on vapourization - there's a few links at Wikipedia on the 'Vaporizers' page. Or yeah, just get yourself a real doctor.

Vapor in my nose is so uncomfortable! Always makes me sneeze.

I've been sick recently (flu-like symptoms) and have noticed that vaping completely inflames my sinuses to the point I don't even want to get high. After vaping (like 10 minutes later) my nasal passages are completely blocked accompanied by pressure around the nose and eyes, I'm a mouth breather either way but its really awful! Anyone with similar exp?

I agree with Qbit, get a real doctor.

I can't believe he gave you that absolutely iggnorant answer; you know we're in for a battle when the "educated" are, well not educated.

I came here to answer your question, but it already has been answered. Heck you could vape after oral surgery, you would just have to inhale with your nostrils.

I hope you heal as fast as you possibly can sugarloafer!
Ya i hate that! but #1 the pharmasutical companies dont want to compeat with a supirior med they cant copy write.

So #2 get your subsiderary text book writing corp and train the doctors to back your products. Hell throw in a few kick backs and away we go. on top of that the war on drugs supports alot of jobs (with taxses that is) but jobs none the

#3 geneticly mod life so you can copywrite it then legaliz. eventually your created genetics will be in vertually all species of the type you moded, then legaly you own the whole species.

Now adays you gotta ask how would one go about owning it all! everthing in the world legaly. then you know how corps and rich elite think ;) we are just consumer robots, soon to be just robots.

I had back surgery in 92. I was in the hospital for three days. I couldn't smoke then but as soon as I got home I was getting medicated. You want to heal fast the main thing is nutrition. fruits vegetables nuts grains legumes and fish. and start moving as soon as possible. :2c: :)
