I should preface this with the fact that I dislike spiders in general. Yes, I get they are beneficial and important and amazing and their silk has all sorts of uses and... IDGAF. Rant time.

I've been killing Brown Widow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latrodectus_geometricus) spiders in my back yard for over a week now and they just keep coming. I've destroyed (quite spectacularly with fire I may add) half a dozen egg sacks, and killed countless spiders.

Today, I walk out my back door and immediately run into a fucking spider web. I freeze and slowly back up. Out of the corner of my eye, I see something drop and scamper to my left (outside the house thank god). After collecting my self and getting my shit together from a semi meltdown, I clean up the web and go look for what I saw earlier. I was greeted by this:

Yea, go ahead and zoom in on that thing. See the "Hey asshole, you better not miss with that shoe or you're gunna die" orange hour glass on its abdomen? FUCK. THAT. SHIT.

My only regret is not getting something in there for a size comparison. This thing was pretty fucking burly. Needless to say, after admiring its beauty and taking my time to get some decent HDR photos of this spider in all it's natural glory, I promptly froze the shit out of it with with an upside down can of Dustoff then smashed it like the T1000 in Terminator 2.

Common, I cant be the only one that would love to wipe these off the face of the planet (or at least my yard). Lets hear your story!

Now if you will pardon me, I need to go take another shower.

I get crazy-big spiders here where I live. I took a video a while back of one that built a giant web across my entire 15-foot driveway.

    Fuck spiders indeed.

During a trip to Oz - I had a huntsman living on my car and shared a picnic table with a nest of redbacks and a toilet with a funnel web - scared the crap out of me I must admit! (No pun intended!) That's one good thing about the UK, the spiders here are harmless! Some I don't mind living in the house. Others get the glass, paper, window treatment - depending on how big & hairy they are!

Talking of spiders, this cloak made from Orb spider silk is pretty amazing:

I don't mind spiders but I can understand the need to exterminate if they get out of control, especially where there are Brown Recluses and other aggressive, highly venomous species.

I wouldn't just kill them out of fear though.....

I had a tarantula in my shoe once. I left it outside and went to put it on in the morning but for no real reason just let it drop. Fucking thing crawled out all slow and shit.

I've seen a handful of them around the property/area. Also, snakes. Scorpions very occasionally.

One of my favorite places to shop, these guys have the "real" deal in pest control chemicals. I was at war with the ants, spiders too, until I found these guys. Now my ants are gone and both houses on each side of mine are also no longer infested, one having a pest control guy come by 4 times/year for a decade and NEVER got rid of them . . .

    Point, click, kill . . . :rip:

The way I see it, spiders eat small insects that are pests. If spiders thrive in an area, it's because there's pests around, and I'm happy to let nature balance that equation.

Funny, last summer I found a spider in the bathroom, that I purposely let be just to see what would happen. That guy stayed there for almost three months. I kind of got used to him, and named him Larry.

Edit: When I first saw the thread title, I was expecting a thread about interspecies mating. I mean, given the OP's moniker, it's not too far a stretch...

I had a huge black widow and cricket problem during the summer in my backyard, I was killing at least 3 or 4 black widows every night. One of my friends use to work for Terminex and told me to water less and that really helped a lot.

Hey now! A bit of good news for those of us on the Left Coast!

The brown widow spider, a less-poisonous species than its cousin, the black widow spider, is making its claim in the dark recesses of Southern California trash can lids, plant pot lips and wood piles – and pushing its deadly cousin out of the region.

Still, this FCer shows no love to the Widow! :goon: (And then afterwards, a little of this :horse:)

Fuck em all. Lady bugs are the only insects i like.
Funny story, when i was very young (like 5 yrs old) and i first saw a lady bug i caught it and put it in a plastic bottle and kept it for like a week with a leaf (to eat). Then one day i opened the bottle and put it on the ground on the balcony. Suddenly it just flapped its little wings and flew away. At that time i did not know they could fly. I cried like a bitch lol.
