    Hey all :)

So....back in the 70's....I smoked pot and I liked it...…a lot ;) I've been out of the game for 35 to 40 years now but with legalization in 9 days, I'm planning on picking it up again.

I'm excited about the thought of it, but also a bit nervous...because after such a long break I'm wondering if I'll like it as much as I did back then. After all of my planning and scheming, if I no longer enjoy it, it's going to be big time lunch bag letdown!

Has anyone else been in this situation, and any advice for a nervous Nellie like me?

    Thanks.

*Editing to add that I plan on vaping exclusively this time around

Relax! There are fantastic strains nowadays, decades of intensive breeding and selection behind us. On top of that, there are fantastic vaporizers to enjoy them safely, with outstanding flavor.

You'll be able to tailor the effects to your needs. It will be awesome!

And welcome to our community!

The 1:1 strains might be a good way to get back into cannabis for you, if you can find them.

The high cbd strains usually cause less anxiety for low tolerance people.

    I hope you find bliss.

So back in the 70's I too smoked a lot of pot plus acid, shrooms, peyote, etc etc etc.. Concerts every weekend kind of stuff.

The best advice that I can give you now is start off sloooooooooow. For one thing, the herbs today are MUCH more powerful than then were back then, even when you consider the Thai sticks we used to smoke. Secondly, your tolerance right now is non-existent. And finally, due to your age, you will be much more sensitive to the effects. So again I say...........start off slow. And if you're vaping, the effects will be delayed by as much as 10 minutes or so, so take one hit then put it down for about 15 minutes before you decide to take another.

You're biggest surprise will be when you walk into the dispensary and see 30 to 40 different strains staring you in the face. Back in the 70's, we had what..............maybe 3 to 4 strains at most, Thai Sticks with the rest coming in from Mexico.

    Enjoy.....

So "in the old days" you would go to your dealer and he/she gave you whatever "weed" they happened to have at the moment. and you were happy. And at least around my area growing up, none of it had names. Oh sure, I'd heard of Maui Wowie, BC Bud, Acapulco Gold, but never seen any of them. Closest I ever got to something with a name was listening to "Panama Red" by New Riders of the Purple Sage.

Indica? Huh? Sativa? What's that? Indiana ditch weed? Oh yeah, I know what that is.

But now, and I do live in a medical legal state, it's a totally different ballgame.
I can go into a dispensary anywhere in the state, and pick and chose from dozens of different named strains.

Do your homework ahead of time to determine what you're wanting to get out of your cannabis experience.
Are you wanting to go more for the recreational side?
Or since you're a little bit older, like some of us, and maybe there are now medical reasons, like some of us, that are appealing to you.

Regardless, there are a multitude of not only different strains with all their different CBD/THC levels, but many different avenues with which to partake. Edibles, tinctures, liquids, ointments, flower, oils, pens, vapes, etc etc etc. Plus here there is also hash, shatter, wax, distillates, concentrates, pre-rolls, and on and on and on..............

Like I said, maybe educate yourself a little before you jump back in, you're going to be blown away, and you're going to love it!

Enjoy the experience! Life is good!

A dispensary...even an hour or two drive away, would be amazing!
And no worry of going to prison while driving home? That would be awesome!

Thank-you to all! I’ll be taking my time with this, and hoping it’s all I want it to be. Now to continue with the research into vaporizers. I may have more questions :)

Don't mean to create any Green Envy, but there's probably a couple of dozen dispensaries within a half hour drive around here. And............. there is also delivery services.

I took a 30 year break from pot, started again about 3-4 years ago. You will enjoy it more than you did before, especially if you vape. Vaping gives you the flavor, along with other benefits.

Pot is so much better than it was when I first started. There is just no comparison. Since you will be in a legal area the options for you are many., flower, wax, etc. Never been a better time to jump back on board. Its like riding a bike, you will be an old veteran in no time.

Well said Iwien! Its like night and day from the 70's when all I could get was outdoor skunk weed. Now I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go to my dispensary, so many different strains and much more potent weed and concentrates to choose from.

Welcome back to the darkside! Good call on vaping as I feel it is such a way more pleasant experience than combusting. My advice to you is to start small and remember that there is a fine line between therapeutic effect and too much.

I'm not trying to scare you with this, just sharing with you my experiences with too much have never been fun and I don't wish that feeling on anyone. Vaporization is a great way to reduce harm as heavy smokers can run into chronic bronchitis and other negative side effects with prolonged use.

Been vaping almost exclusively since 2004 and only smoke out of respect for friends passing me a bowl in environments that aren't vape friendly. Glad I won't have any issues finding cannabis in Canada when visiting. Vancouver and Ottawa were friendly to US medical patients at their "illegal" dispensaries but Montreal was not so nice to us Yankees.

    Enjoy your new freedom!

I took a 30 year break as well- mainly so I could get a transplant. I agree with the others- there are so many options now you will find something you enjoy. Plus vaping is a totally different experience and much milder than anything you did in the seventies.

Seems like there's a dispensary every block around where I live. Just driving a mile to pickup my dog from daycare I passed 10 on the main streets. Many states are heading that way- until the tobacco companies take over. I wonder if it's the same in Canada.

I think it’s going to be fairly decent when they get it together. Unfortunately the numptys in my province didn’t and we’re only going to have one (legal) store open next Wednesday. I guess that’s a topic for a different thread though.

One store no edibles. But I guess it beats going to the big house for five.

My advice on strains is to attend to the different effects of sativas, indicas, and sativa or indica-dominant hybrids. My dispensary also lists the amount of CBD, which is handy. I mostly enjoy sativa hybrids in the early evening or for social stuff and indica hybrids later.

My advice for vaporizers is to frame the shopping/research as a "which vape will a buy first?" sort of thing. Try some devices if you have friends with dry herb vapes. I like all my vapes for different reasons and use them at different times or settings depending on what I'm looking for.

I too was a pot smoker with a long time off and the experience is cleaner than I ever enjoyed with combustion. Coming back down is particularly more pleasant with little to no grogginess.

Not true for everyone. I can't begin to tell you how many times that, sitting on my couch while watching TV, I looked at my watch and noticed that it was 12:00am when I absolutely knew that I sat down at 10 and had no idea where those 2 hours went.
