Alan, Is your new 110v unit going to be UL tested and approved? And just to be clear, you are not using a 3prong grounded plug, right?

That is correct. Just a simple 2 prong lamp cord with the only two electrical connections shrink wrapped.
That is all you need as well.
My 110v unit is going to be VL tested. Vaporwriter Laboratories. All the same requirements as UL but the testing is more fun.
Just because we don't have to abide by the UL standards doesn't mean that we shouldn't. Just do the right thing Andy.

because a two prong is safe or because (you) 'chose to design to the least common denominator'? I'm just asking because I'm sure you've seen all the heat I'm taking for not using a 3-prong.

I believe the 2 prong design is safe as long as there is no way for the electrical connections to come apart and that they are properly covered. If you want to use a 2 prong design, you just have to ensure that the wires can never get loose under any scenario. I am using butt splices to make the electrical connections. It allows for easy soldering and covers with heat shrink wrap very nicely.

Is it tho?

As I will using a UK - USA step down transformer which will have a 3 prong plug on it does that mean I don't have to worry?

I'm going to ask that you and Andy take this up in a private conversation. We take safety seriously, but we also need to enforce our rules, including and especially the manufacturer rules. I had made a caveated exception earlier when this issue was unaccounted for, however it's clear now that this discussion between two competitors can't take place here if our rules are to be respected.

If and when you two come to a consensus, please post the result here, but keep the discussion in private.

As reported to me it was 'i had a laptop computer on my lap, and the shock came from when i made contact with a grounded screw on the computer and the base of the epicvape'. There have been no other reported incidences of shocks with an EV-2 either to me or on this thread.

In other words, something inside the EV-2 went wrong, causing a live circuit that simply needed grounding to deliver a current through whatever made the contact, which in this case was a person. I think you can call yourself lucky that there have been no other reported incidents. As a manufacturer, don't you think this is a major liability? What do your lawyers think? Have you done any investigation to determine how this happened? Have you modified your design to ensure it can't happen again? Will you be recalling units to fix the flaw?

If I owned an EV-2, I would not find "it only happened once" to be reassuring in the slightest.

Let me start by saying nobody is more concerned about my customers safety and satisfaction than I am.

In the two years the EV-2 has been on the market there have been hundreds sold and most of them are used as daily drivers. In other words tens of 1,000's of uses with no reported issues until this one. I don't think that's 'Lucky'. I think that is indicative of a solid design. The unit in question was returned to me and inspected by a third party electrical engineer who could not find fault with the unit nor replicate the problem. (Disclaimer: He owns and uses an EV-2 daily.)

The owner of the returned unit was given his choice (as are all of my customers) of a refund or a replacement unit. He chose a replacement unit.

Right, but is it susceptible to happen with another EV? How many of the users do you think enjoy vaping while browsing the internet on their laptop! Or people cooking put it on the wrong surface? Maybe even just standing on the wrong one?

In other words, what is changing in the build process that won't allow this to happen?

I'm glad this was just case number one, but unless I misunderstood there's nothing stopping case numbers two and three and a hundred.

Do you think people feel safe when something like that happens and you don't mention any fix so that it doesn't ever happen again? I don't.

Please don't take this as a personal attack because it's not intended to be, but really... Are you going to do anything to fix it? Can the replacement EV do the same thing in the same conditions as the "shocking" unit? If it does, what good is a replacement when the risk of it happening again is there?

I'm pretty sure Andy said the third party engineer tried to duplicate what happened with the laptop. He said it couldn't recreate it? Maybe there was something else that happened that the customer was not aware he even did? And so it will always be a mystery?

Hey im new to the whole vape concept, and from a lot of research conducted I have decided that your E-Nano and EV-2 are my best starting options. I'm just wondering which of the two models is a more new user friendly model, Thank you for any help in advance!

Hello Highguy and welcome to the forum! The choice between the two of them is a hard decision. I have both and really enjoy the two. I would suggest the Nano though over the EV2, the nano is alot smaller than the EV2, about half the size. It also has the VV temp dial in the cord that allows you to adjust your temps to your desired range. The EV2 is a great vape for direct draw or you can use it with a whip which also works well. I dig the Nano due to the size, it fits really nice in the hand and works great with a water pipe. I hope I have been helpful and do hope you enjoy either of the two.
