Digital Scales... Prices and Quality... Recommendations?

I highly recommend these two sites for scale shopping. The digital scale market is like the vape market. There are many cheap, unreliable made in China scales that are to be avoided. And I mean 'made in generic factories' with various names slapped on them. Companies like My Weigh (30 yr. warranty) have factories in China, but they're strictly one brand, use quality parts and designs, and have excellent QC.

http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/ - hard to beat for price and selection.

The Old Willknott Scales site seems best. The Canadian one has the same scale I want, but it seems too pricey.

I did a search before posting and didn't find anything to help give me a (current) answer...

I need a scale. It doesn't have to be the best on the market but something that folks could vouch for.
I'm hoping to stay under $50 shipped (USPS, likely as I'm in AK).
It doesn't have to be stealth or extremely portable,...just accurate with, say, .01 ounce increments.

Any help?

Thanks!

I can recommend My Weigh Triton T2 scales. Very good build quality at a reasonable price.

The Triton T2 120 is a bargain at about $15. And the T2 300 for higher capacity-both have the calibration weight for <$3 more from Oldwillknotscales.com.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Just got the Triton 500g off ebay - $20 shipped.
Would have liked to support Old Will (native of CO myself) but shipping alone was $19.

Onwards!

Guys,

I just ordered from Old Will Knott (thanks for the heads up).

I was going to get the durascale 50 instead of the palmscale 7 (from the pictures, it just seems that the durascale line is better constructed-- although at a higher price) when I saw this:

http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/my-weigh-palmscale8-advance-300.aspx

It is the Palmscale 8 Advance 300-- 0.01 g resolution and 300g max capacity. A shit load of accessories and a 200 g calibration weight (this scale does not calibrate at max capacity). Here is a link to the manufacturer's website:

http://www.myweigh.com/palmscale8

I just ordered it so cannot recommend it, but thought I'd share the info re the Palmscale 8 here since it is an upgrade to the popular Palmscale 7 (about 6 dollars difference between the two only at Old Will Knott's)

Here is a review about the palmscale 7, I expect that the palmscale 8 will work just as well (I hope anyway); I haven't been able to find a reliable palmscale 8 review yet:

http://www.digitalscale.com/Palmscale7.html

If anybody has experience with this model (the palmscale 8), please feel free to share a comment or two.

EDIT to note: I decided against the durascale 50 because I got excited when I saw the palmscale 8 and also because I have always had bad luck with touch type buttons (which are what seem to be on the durascale models, though given the quality reviews regarding this line I would not expect this to be a big issue)-- I really wanted a durascale but in the end the price factor won.

I've had the Durascale 50 for a few years now, and it's a great scale. The membrane type buttons are not a problem. It has a counting feature, additional weighing modes for Troy ozs. and milligrams, and seems to be a more rugged design. For most purposes though, the PS 8 seems to offer the same performance, and a couple of extra accessories, for $9 less. The Palmscale 7 (200) is even a better buy. It lacks the Hydro-Hinge, which is cool but unnecessary. The expansion tray and bowl you get with the 8 may make it worth the extra $ though.

I've owned my Palmscale 7 for about a year now. It seems very solid and well constructed. When compared with a cheaper scale that I had purchased previously, it was much more accurate. Good choice.

Good to know, Teddy, thanks for the heads up, I feel good about the purchase now. I am pretty sure the Durascale is more upscale (whatever that means-- German sensors I guess) and the price difference was negligible so I was wondering if I screwed up my decision. Thanks for validating my purchase.

Max: good to know about the Durascale buttons. Those definitely made me think twice. I feel a bit foolish though because I have a feeling the reason I went for the Palmscale was that the least expensive Durascale is rated only for 50 grams-- I'll never need more than that capacity but I guess for some reason the numbers did affect my decision. Oh well.

I do think that the extra accessories with the Palmscale 8 make the slight dollar difference worth it.

I don't own a camera so cannot post pictures, but will definitely come back with a few comments once I receive the scale. It has been shipped already btw (got a tracking number about 45 minutes ago), so that was very quick!

Happy vaping all :)

Probably be a good idea to pick up a little scale and I'm wondering what you guys and gals like and recommend in that department.
Started comparing items and it becomes bewildering to make an informed buying decision and then looking at this site -
http://digitalscale.com/
http://digitalscale.com/Fraud.html

you realize that there's some counterfeiting going on

so I figured I'd bring this topic up to the experts.

Just need a scale for home or personal use - nothing too serious.

What do you recommend?

thanks..

I'd recommend just goin on ebay and looking for a cheap digi that does .1 or .01 for 10-15 bucks.

When I say cheap, i mean a step up from those china iphone or whatever looking scale.

You can get a half decent one like i said for 10-15 bucks which sell for like 25+ in the store.

If you want a high quality scale i recommend Acculab. I have a 1mg scale and love it. It's real laboratory grade.

I didn't realize that I needed a scale until I finally got one. I use mine regularly to monitor my personal inventory and consumption, but I probably use it just as often for unanticipated purposes (spices, teas, one stamp or two?). So, absolutely get yourself a scale, any decent scale; you'll be glad you did. [Warning: You may be disappointed (even pissed) when you determine how much you've been paying for moisture content.]

I initially planned to spend about $35 -$40, but after sleeping on it, I went back online and looked again at some less expensive models. [That's not my usual m.o., by the way]. I ended up buying the American Weigh AMW-100 with the 100g calibration weight. http://www.amazon.com/American-Weig...9?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1267653169&sr=8-9 I've had mine about 9 months, and I'm very happy with it. It has a 100g capacity; its 0.01g resolution lets me round to the nearest 1/10 gram; and, it uses inexpensive AAA batteries (I'm still using the two batteries that came with the scale).

Actually, with my budget I bought two of these, and gave one to my childhood tokin' buddy as a gift; he loves his scale as well, and it unexpectedly helped convert him to vaping. After the initial calibration, our two scales displayed the same or within 0.01g of each other at several test points. So, if they are non-linear, at least they appear to be pretty consistent in their inaccuracy.

Instead of eBay cheapies, how about $15 for top of the line scales, with a 30 yr. warranty?
