Sure there is, just use a straw. In a much earlier post I explained I was slightly concerned about this whole mess when I got mine, so I went the extra mile when checking mine out. Those concerns have long since passed.

Like I said, I don't think the chamber stinks like rubber because the smell was coming from the rubbery coating. I have no reason to think that any smell was coming from the chamber... after all, it's metal and the smell I had (still have, but to a lesser extent) was rubbery like the coating. It's pretty obvious when you are smelling it where it's coming from.

My unit doesn't smell but that may be because my LHS had it outside of the box and so it smells like every other HS some really fragrant incense stick lol.

I had that rubbery smell when I first got mine as well, but after using it a couple times the "new car smell" wore off pretty quick and I have no weird odor or flavor to it any more.

How are you guys cleaning this? I am having a hard time getting a draw. Not sure what to think of this unit yet. Battery seems to die very quickly. No clouds of vapor, no matter what I do. Although I am enjoying the buzz enough. Maybe just some practice but I dunno.......

I find that you have to be very proactive about cleaning the screen. Unscrewing it and running it under hot water or alcohol usually helps.

You have to clean it well, use a q-tip with some ISO to clean the bowl, straw and the latch upper chamber.

How many 10min sessions do you get before running out of batteries? I seem to have 4-6 with temperatures ranging from 185-190-195-200C.

When you finish the charge, wiggle the charging connector a bit and press it inside to see if it was properly charging.

It is rather strange you don't get clouds also, have you tried a VERY slow inhale for about 20secs? I get huge clouds from like 1/3 of a bowl..

Seems to be, yes. Mine is much less noticable now... almost completely gone, actually. Just don't store the unit in the foam it comes in.

Cleaning is very important, so you have to make sure to take your time and get everything. Q-tip with 99% ISO is what I've been using and it's like new after each clean. Though, like many, I am very proactive when it comes to cleaning my DV. These are small vaporizers, so obviously if you're not regularly cleaning them, you may run into some problems.
First thing to know, there are 3 mesh screens to this unit. The first is located on the very bottom of the chamber, it can be hard to get out. I use a little metal hook, like a dentist tool. This one, to me at least, seems less important than the others. Though, I still clean it when I have the spare time. The second is pretty easy to see. It's on the bottom part of the latch. The piece on the very bottom screws out and the screen sits in it. The third is located right above this one. It's best to take off the flex straw and force it down from the opposite side with a toothpick or something. Soak all of these, including the screw off piece, in iso while you clean the rest of the unit with a Q-tip.
I typically like to heat mine up to ~150F after I get all the screens out, seems to make it easier to clean off the gunk. Once the 10 minutes are up and it kicks off, go to town on the chamber with a bent Q-tip lightly dipped in the ISO (you don't want it to be soaking!) Run another Q-tip dipped in ISO up the hole where the 2 screens are located. In my experience, this is the trickiest part, and I haven't found a really good method for cleaning that hole other than CLEAN OFTEN to prevent build up. I generally clean mine after ~6 sessions, but never go over 10 without a good clean. Two ways I clean my straw are: rip off most of the cotton on both sides of a Q-tip, dip in ISO and run it threw the straw, or soak in ISO and rinse after.
If you want clouds, you can get them. Just don't expect it to stand up against a volcano. Crank it up to ~375-385. Once the unit is ready, exhale most of the air in your lungs for a good long draw. Draw for ~15 seconds and exhale immediately (THC absorbs into the lungs instantly, there is no need to hold in hits!) If you're not exhaling an excessive amount of vapor O.o I'd have to ask what the hell are you vaping, lol!
Unlike most vaporizers its size, the DV is a convection based vaporizer, where as most are conduction. In simplest terms this means no waiting between hits. You can take a hit, exhale, and immediately take another hit and see vapor every time. While convection does have many advantages I enjoy, battery life does suffer. However, I was still very surprised that I can get 6-9 sessions (temp range will effect how many uses it can get on a charge!) out of mine on a full charge. Obviously that is going to decrease more and more as the battery starts to go out but, not bad at all. Oh, I'd also recommend if you want to keep the battery alive as long as possible to try not to let the unit get under 50% charge (~3 uses) before recharging.

    Hope this help!

Edit: Oh right, use the DV brush on the mesh screens after they've been soaking in the ISO awhile. Should look good as new when you're finished!

Thank you for the tips Zomger, some of that stuff I will have to try, I didn't even think of some of that. I was using a q tip and water to clean it out myself, but your way is much more effective

Ordering mine first thing tomorrow morning after my bank deposits go through, getting Priority shipping I can't wait!

I had one more question, what exactly do I need to buy in order to vape bong with the DaVinci? Other than a bong obviously.

Sorry for the "absence" on the forum of late. I've been super busy. Luckily, I've been able to talk to a lot of you on the phone.

We have some big developments coming down the pipe here shortly. I can't quite divulge them yet due to things always being tweaked last minute, but we've listened to the feedback we've received since the launch of the DaVinci just a couple months ago and are implementing some of those changes.

We'll soon have updated news on certifications, minor manufacturing changes and even some special promotions.

I did a thorough Q-tip and ISO cleaning to send the unit back to Karma, and the airflow on the DV is really effortless.

Arg, I can't bring myself to give up vaping for a week during the warranty exchange. Even with my device's heat issue, the DV hits like a champion! Hopefully the Puffit ships soon, so my lungs won't have to deal with combustion.

I do have to agree that the DaVinci airflow is one of the best out of the portables I have tried. As long as you keep it clean and working well, the device has great airflow. I really appreciate that when my TMJ is acting up.

Is it worth buying now or waiting for the manufacturing tweaks? It seems there are no crazy problems, but is the heat annoyance, cleaning issue, or slightly rubbery/plastic taste bothering enough to warrant the wait?

As long as you have a good backup, I would wait for the updated version. However if you don't have a backup, then I wouldn't hesitate to purchase the current model.

    Hey guys,

First post on FC. So far I have been very impressed with the etiquette and decorum of this forum. Quite impressive considering the tongue and cheek name of the website, but I digress.

I wanted to share with you my davinci experience.
There seems to be quite a bit of controversy about who is working for whom under what pretenses. I'd like to start off by saying I'm working for no one and gain nothing. My info below is exactly as I observe it. Since I'm a first time poster you have no reason to believe anything I'm saying, but anyway it is what it is.
I ask that you read the entire post before reaching your conclusions. The post is long, and I apologize, but I just wanted to make sure I was as accurate as possible.

I ordered mine directly from davinci. Spoke with Lance and got my first one ordered. It arrived promptly and Lance was very pleasant to talk to. He seemed genuinely excited about the product (always a good sign).

The first unit I got had several issues.
The first had a very pronounced smell and clearly visible vapor, when heated, while brand new and so far unused. I had read about, before buying, users experiencing mystery vapor issues and wanted to be certain.
The visible vapor eventually dissipated but the electrical smell persisted.
I ignored it as best as I could since I was excited about using it. So I just decided it was simply machine oil and let it be.
After leaving it on the charger overnight, I removed the plug to notice that it had charged only one additional dot during that time. (And yes I did have the first stage power on)
I initally emailed Lance to let him know. I got no response to my email (understandable considering they're probably crazy busy) and I decided to call instead.
I spoke with a different support person. She was incredibly friendly and very much wanting to make sure I was happy.
She over-nighted me a replacement unit along with some additional goodies.

I got my replacement unit and goodies, immediately plugged it in to charge.
A few hours later, had a nice solid charge so we're good there.
Again considering my previous mystery vapor experience and those reported by others I gave mine a nice complete wipe-down with grain alcohol using a q-tip. I wiped the straw, airway, inside screens, and lower chamber quite thoroughly.
    I ran a test burn at 420f.
All looked good, no weird vapor, although still a bit electrically smelling.
I wrote that off as circuit board material getting hot and blowing off smell; no big.
I didn't notice anything in the airpath so I proceeded to vape some.... oregano.
First impressions were, WOW! This thing is f'ing awesome. The vape cloud was nice and thick and quite effective.
While using it for the first time I took time to notice the workmanship.
There is some real love put into these things. They are quite solid feeling and it is very clear that a lot of thought went into every detail of it.
Where the volcano is like a fine German automobile
The davinci feels like a sexy slick tech gadget, while still feeling quite solid
The LCD is quite useful providing a lot of relevant info --set position, actual temp, batt charge rate, etc.
The loading chamber is a bit clumsy, but easily worked around. The top of mine swings pretty wide open to load.
Unloading can be a bit of a pain, but the back of the cute little brush they include with it, works well enough.
The draw straw, (I have both the short and long ones) seem to be pretty shoddily made and I expect them to fall apart pretty quickly. This is clearly conjecture here on my part, since that has not happened at all. But the way the pieces are bonded together seems easy to separate with wear.

I continued exploring the full depths of consciousness that oregano has to offer, vaping several more loads throughout the day.

I had started reading the top of this post several days ago, and have been trying to catch up with the entire post. Anyway 37 pages takes a bit of time to read and I just finished it up tonight.

I read several more posts about people having mystery vapor issues with the chamber empty that is not easily visible.
I ignored most of it, hoping it was just overreacting.
After seeing a few more posts, then videos, I decided to see for myself.
I emptied the unit and made sure it was clean.
I fired it up empty at its original set temp 375.
    Looked at it closely. Nothing.
So I raised it to 410 and grabbed a super bright led flashlight.
I looked at it from several angles and sure enough depending on the angle you hold it, this thing was off-gassing... something. That is without doubt.
I thought to myself maybe the LED flashlight is doing something weird with heat (it's a long-shot I know, but I really do LOVE this thing). So I grabbed an old style flashlight.
Once again, depending on angle, the off gassing is clear as day.
I turned it off, let it cool, lit it up again.
At around 380 it's good, no real discernible mystery vapor.
But get it to 410 and above and it's blowing out of there like a smoke stack.

At this point I have very serious reservations about continuing to use it.
I want to emphatically state that I LOVE this thing. There is clearly a lot of love, thought, and attention that went into making it. But this weird gassing issue is a serious concern and not some skull-and-dagger espionage!

I'm going to call davinci back on Monday and see what my options are.
I seriously hope this is a one off, but the exact same pattern is showing up on several units that I now feel genuinely concerned.

I hope whatever this is, is easily fixable.
Will update as I get more info.

Anyone? I just want to know what kind of attachment I need to purchase.

Also, @ the above post, this isn't a regular occurrence is it? It seems like everyone is really happy with this item.

Anything you use is going to be a DIY project. There's nothing that anyone's produced to convert this vape to bong use, and I doubt there will be, due to very limited demand.
There is no off gassing of any kind with a properly working DV.
