Wow that sucks. This hasn't happened to me and I'm glad I see it CAN happen so I may prevent it... Any idea how it happened? My guess is the brush had some on it's end and fell off when you put it up. Is it loose in there? If only there were such a thing as an herb magnate!

zomger: my guess is it got in through the storage comparment, as i kept some ground up herb in there a few times to test it out. not a big concern if that is how it got in, imo, it would be a much bigger concern if say,the herb got inthere through the main chamber and airpath (which it has not).

xivyx420, i hope i haven't discouraged you from posting. we're a nice bunch here, i promise - sorry if i read too much into things and accused you of shilling. hope that hasn't soured you on this place, i know i personally would love to see you grow your vape collection - if you think the davinci is great, wait till you try some of the other setups out there!

My replacement arrived the 19th and I sent the old unit in today the 22nd. I hope I didn't sit on the old unit too long and make you all nervous. hehe I would like to thank you people at davinci once again for taking care of us so well.

at this time, I don't really have a desktop that I have my eye on. Even when at home I like something I can move about the house with. Right now, I pretty much use my solo exclusively when at home. Really looking forward to receiving the daVinci. From everything I've read, it sounds like a real winner.

I can dig that. the solo was my main man for a couple of months until i got my nice glass to go with the cloud. now the solo only comes out when i have to sneak around.

Thanks for pointing that out. NOTE to self: Do not put ground herb in built-in storage container.

Slightlymedicated: shook it around and it stuck, so I did co sider compressed air. Looked at it this morning though and it looks like it shifted to the bottom edge where it is hardly visible.

but really, it doesn't bother me too much knowing it happens to others and that this is not a defect with just my unit. :)

I wonder how you got the flowers in the LCD area. have you tried some compressed air in the herb storage compartment to see if you can knock it loose?

It's fine, I get it, but just know I have no hidden agenda. Thanks for the apology

I have had a couple of crumbs in mine too I think they got there when I was cleaning it, I got a little too rough shaking or something on it. I am going to try and use one of those keyboard compressed air cleaners to get it out, do you think this could do damage to the unit itself at all?

that's interesting that the encouragement to shake the unit has resulted in abv in the innards.

@stickstones: mine is not abv, just uncooked green herb. Is yours abv? That worries me - abv getting outside into the LCD means that the airpath is not truly electronics/solder contact free..

I don't know guys. After looking at the storage area (I've kept ground up herb in there before) I don't see any way it could have happened. Mine at least is very solid on the inside. I don't see anyway for herb to fall down inside the unit from the storage compartment. Are you guys sure that some loose herb inside the chamber didn't fall into the brush hole?

Edit: Forgot to mention, looking at the pictures of the DV opened up back a ways in this thread you can see that where the brush hole ends is right above the LCD screen.

The LCD appears to be in the same section (not sealed off) as the heat chamber and the air intake holes. You can see the back of the LCD though the side vents. This worries me a little bit. I think they should seal this off entirely, and remove the plastic wrapping on the wires that feed the heater so its just silicone and bare wire underneath, and the unit would be solid.. Maybe that and change the plastic to something with less "new" stink. Just my .02. Many people prob love it as is. For me, this vape still has huge potential with some small tweaks.

I imagine this is what you are referring to. This concerned me also. But it was a bit too late because I had already made the order by the time I saw it. Honestly, this guy claims to taste rubbery vapor... I have not experienced this with my DA at all! I don't own many vaporizers.. DA & a Iolite (gen1) but I have plenty of experience with desktop vaporizers, so I know what vapor is suppose to taste like. That said, I taste/smell NO anomalies using my DA. Also, I'm even less concerned because the venting on this thing seems incredible (in my experience!) Heat it up to near 400F and when I place my hand over the vents on accident it just feels warm, not even hot!
Oh and the wires do have heat resistant coating on them, it was already addressed.. Tried to find it but dang it if the search for user posts isn't working for me properly atm. I promise it's in this thread though!

    Edit: Typos :ko:

Yeah, the wires are wrapped in a medical grade silicone. There is plastic underneath the silicone though. They will still reach high temps. The wires under should be bare so there is no plastic to heat at all.

Mine did have an immense plastic/rubbery taste when new. That and the LCD under the vent was too much for me. My unit may have been different than others however, and to be fair I did not wait many cycles for the taste/smell to work itself out. I'm a highly picky buyer with most things...

What made you keep the Solo and not the DaVinci? It is my understanding that aside from the lack of LCD the closeness of the vapor path and the electronic wiring is similar between them and i don't believe they had bare wires either.

The solo never had any off taste to me; very pure vapor. Plus, I'm not an electronics expert, but it looks to me like the air path for the solo is top in/out. It never gets into the guts of the device; I don't think.

Edit: "Air enters the unit through the holes on the top, enters the heating chamber from below, and rises through the small holes in the bottom of the ceramic core when air is drawn through the glass aroma tube.
Unlike the EQ, the battery and circuitry are completely separated from the air path of the Solo. The air path is limited to the top 2" of the Solo, all the components are in the bottom section." - From Vaporpedia

Aren't there "bare" wires with teflon or silicone sheathing available that could be used here so there wouldn't be any doubts about safety? I have no idea, just curious if it's an issue of cost, oversight, or plain unavailability.

Since the air will follow the path of least resistance, it seems that the DVs air path will be through the vents, to the holes in the chamber cilinder, and then out through the straw. So, the air will never touch the unprotected part of the wires or any other part for that matter.

I think the off taste is more about the type of plastic of the casing, then because of wires or electronics.

Yeah, I read that about S&B. Not cool, but then again competition is sometimes fierce. They may also be in a better position to judge the flaws of vapes than most. Still, I'll try to judge based on the pictures and not the comments..

Vorrage makes sense, the air is probably going through the vents mainly. I'm old and paranoid though. I don't want any hot air from the LCD lingering in the box and then getting sucked up; surely some must if its not sealed. For me, any off taste is too much. If they fix it they've got a nice vape.

Wrong. The air path does draw from underneath the heater, regardless of what anyone else (including Arizer) has said. Most of the smell users have reported comes from excessive soldiering flux on a small circuit board directly underneath the heater. I know this because my second Solo had this smell. I cleaned the flux with alcohol and q-tips and the smell was gone.

    Sorry about going off topic.

    I'm with GReYArea:

I've had my davinci for ~2 weeks now and I've done the warm water wash for the straw, done 5-7 complete burn/cool cycles to 430F, etc. The smell has diminshed, a *lot*. Still, it's there. If I heat it up to 390-400 and take an empty draw with nothing in the chamber, I still taste rubber/plastic, instead of the abv/honey taste I might expect.

I *think* the taste is coming from the whip but I do share greyarea's concerns about the impure airpath (ambient air surrounding LCD and electronics.. which wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that the unit gets really hot and heats up all the surrounding electronics). That, on top of the "food grade silicone" that just cooks the plastic non-food-grade chinese wires inside, worries me a tiny bit.

I also get the impression that the unit wasn't built to withstand all the heat it eventually ends up soaking in - the side molding, below where the top lid "latch" holds onto, has started "splitting". Instead of a |, it looks like a very very narrow V, if that makes sense. I'm wondering if the heat cycles are starting to warp the body..

I still enjoy using the vape, but that last remaining issue is what has me keeping it a once-a-day only walkabout vape. using it back to back, I seem to get headaches, but that might be placebo from me needlessly worrying about plastic and rubber fumes.

For most, it won't be an issue. For the discerning vaporist who can taste the difference between an all-glass vapor path and a whip based box, this may be a slight problem if you're anal like me, but for your average vaporist I don't think it's an issue (UNLESS there is a health issue here, which is something we cannot realistically determine without the manufacturer's help imo)

EDIT: FWIW, my arizer solo has no taste whatsoever, even drawing on 6-7 with an empty bowl. I believe part of the reason is that hot air is created at the contact surface of the bowl, and flows upwards, straight through the tube. The rest of the unit below the heater, does *not* get hot, and parts/air remain cool until drawn up into the heating chamber to get heated by the SS bowl, then passed up through the glass tube.

The davinci, there is all sorts of hot stale air sitting inside the plastic body, getting hotter and hotter (and smellier?) before being drawin into the no2 style heating chamber. The unit sits and gets very, very, very hot. I don't know if it gets hot enough to make any electronics or circuitry start reacting or changing chemically - but if I had to put my money on one, I'd pick that the davinci was way more likely to do so over the solo, just from the design and operation alone. Neither is a perfect design, but my personal opinion and vote goes for the solo in terms of purity.
