A couple of good one offs are Dylan and the Dead. An album of live cuts from a mid 1980's tour with the Grateful Dead as Bob Dylans backing band.

Also check an album called Stay Awake. It is a collection of Disney songs performed by various musicians including Harry Nillson, Ken Nordine, Bonnie Raitt, Sun Ra, Ringo, Tom Waits and others.

Chokebore is a great reminder of what the 90s gave us, and what it didn't give us enough of.

Also, Shellac.

I will have to check out Stay Awake. Some of my favorite artists you named there. Thanks.
To add to the thread... Check out the new 20 minute ep from Moonface, called Dreamland ep: Marimba and shit-drums. It's a side project from one of the guys in an equally vape worthy band called Wolf Parade. The only instruments are voice, marimba, and drums, and it is extremely trippy and very interesting without being too "avant garde" for most peoples tastes.
I can see now that I will be in and out of this thread from now on. I love music! My collection is 30,303 ( no kidding, itunes exact count that will change soon) songs spread out over 1,053 artists. It spans many differing genres. All my friends come to me for music suggestions when they want something new to listen to, and I live for getting recommended new music to listen to. It is definitely my favorite addiction. -S.L.

Harry Neilson - The Point,...
anyone remember this?
I definitely remember Oblio and his dog Arrow. ("Me and My Arrow")
That was a TV Movie when I was about 10 or so.

Nilsson was an amazing singer and songwriter.

Trivia bit: You know both Mama Cass and Keith Moon died in apartment he owned in London.

Trivia bit back at ya: Did you know that the story of Oblio was written by Neilson in one sitting during his first acid trip? I bet if the BBC Knew, they never would have aired "the Point".
Now,.. I love Ringo Starr, but I prefer the album with Harry Neilson's narrative, to the movie.

*edit* Nilsson not Neilson my bad.

Bruce@Zephyr,
Your comment made me look it up on Wikipedia and I was glad I did:

"Me and My Arrow" was used by Plymouth to market their car the Arrow in the 70s. When they asked Nilsson about licensing fee he said "buy me a Mercedes."

They did. LMAO.

I have been listening to http://www.lastfm.com essentially tell them what you like to listen to and they suggest tunes to you which you can accept or reject. Set up your own INTERNET radio station of what you like to listen to.:ko:

jackstraw62,
I bought the new Liars album "sisterworld", and I have to say that I love it. I have been following these guys since 2002, and I even introduced them to the "hip" record store that was around at the time. To see these guys evolve and constantly challenge the listener AND themselves, is just awesome. I also suffer slight hearing loss in my right ear that I attribute to being too close to the front at a performance of theirs. Not too awesome...
They are probably not everyone's cup of tea, but if you are into creepy atmosphere, chaotic moments contrasted with sublime beauty, interesting textures, and creative song writing, you should at least give this record a spin. Vaping to this is awesome because of the detailed, and very "3D" mixing and production. Whatever sisterworld is, you get lost in it.
-S.L.
Edited to add: I absolutely loved the movie "The Point" as a child. I was only able to see it about 4 times though because it was on cable. One of the songs remained stuck in my head and I had to find that movie later in life, so I did, and bought it for my son, who loves that movie and its songs. Harry Nilsson is a badass.

It's gotta be Rust in PIece!

TBH, that albums in my top 5-10 of all-time, but I really didnt care for any of their other stuff really. Except the duke nukem theme, that was awesome. I guess i like symphony of destruction too... It's mainly that none of their other albums had as many good songs on them like RIP, they just ones you pick and choose from whereas RIP you just hit play and let it go.

Check out Bill Laswell, "Dreams Of Freedom- Ambient Translations Of Bob Marley In Dub."
It's a perfect gentle ride - you'll dig it.

***edit***

also if you can find a copy of George Duke, "Faces in Reflection" - that is a fucking great tight funk album. I have it on vinyl, it kicks ass...

I highly recommend the new Gorillaz album to any stoner, it's called Plastic Beach.

It starts off mildly decent, and then evolves into pure awesome by the end of the album.

Here are some highlights, to see if it whets your whistle:

To Binge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMFzi35GYKo
Stylo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEhUsdaTavw
Empire Ants: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzvijAIQEm4
On Melancholy Hill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QBwtHzdSFM

NOTE - the album is a musical 'project', as in it has a wide-ranging spectrum of music. Some of the songs are hiphoppy, some remind me of Pink Floyd, and some are downright unique. I really do love this album.

I checked out samples of Plastic Beach on Amazon, I like what I heard.. thanks.

I highly recommend any of these three albums by the Flamin' Groovies:
Teenage Head, Flamingo and Shake Some Action.
The Flamin' Groovies play rock and roll like they invented it.
They are a band to get obsessed over, and I know people who were totally obsessed with them.
In fact this guy Gary who used to own a used record store, his life ambition was to one day SEE the Flamin' Groovies -
they did eventually play in NYC and he was so excited he became disruptive at the show and was thrown out.

jeffp,
The new Mux Mool album, "Skulltaste", is very, very good. It is arcade electronica-hip hop. It reminds me of J. Dilla, and a little Daft Punk and Justice. Awesome attention to detail, and has a surprising amount of emotion. I recommend.

Bruce@Zephyr,
I love Nick Cave, and I have probably 70 percent of his catalog. Awesome songwriter/lyricist. He deserves his career's longevity.

Well it's saturday and I'm stuck at work. I'm not going to let that get me down though, I've been hitting the LB and listening/watching some of my favorite music to get baked to on youtube. Figured I'd post my "playlist" here in case someone else out there is bored, stoned, and trapped on the internet.

http://tinyurl.com/yh5b9xx (dont care for the male vocalist in this song, but half the songs instrumental anyways so it doesnt matter. think he got booted from the band anyway)

steiner666,
The new High Places album is an interesting, and sorta groovin' album. I love how the duo uses all kinds of instruments, even ones not designed to be instruments, to create their own little world and style. Interesting second full length that makes you wonder what they will do next. I recommend!
edited to add- the rhythms on this album are captivating. Lots of poly rhythm and surprises.
