Hells yea! Anthony Bourdain is great!! Did you get a chance to see the episode where he is in Jamaica on the beach. he says something along the lines of "I can't talk about what the island has some real fame for and I can't show you either, so here is a nice view of the sunset while I prepare for dinner" then the camera pans out to the water, Tony coughs off camera and smoke drifts past the screen. Then they go eat.
Classic!!

Also FoodPorn!

Andrew Zimmern,...... not so much!

I only watch zimmern because I forget too change the channel after anthony is done...
and I only watch Man vs Food because you know one day they are going too catch his coronary on camera, so i see it as a documented decent into clogged arteries.

Yeah I saw that episode in jamaica... lots of good scenes in that episode. I think i've seen all of the No Reservations now, but I still don't tire of watching them... yet...

his show got me thinking "man wouldn't it be awesome if you had a show that was similar but instead of traveling the world looking for good eats, your traveling and documenting good herb"

I like Watching Troma movies i think they are funny and always have little politcal statements in them.

I also really liked The Shining stoned pretty much any Stanley Kubric is good though.

Gwar movies are also really funny to me but you probably have to be a fan to really enjoy it.

But i think every movie is better after smoking or vaping.

Oh WOW I completely forgot about "Down by Law" 4 of my favorite entertainers,.. TomWaits, John Lurie, Roberto Benigni.. and who couldn't like Tom Waits? Directed by Jim Jarmusch
favorite line "It is a sad and beautiful world. "

If you liked that one you would probably like "Highway 61" anyone seen this?

Also John Lurie, used to have a show on the Travel Channel called "Fishing with John" the tagline was "Musician John Lurie knows nothing about fishing, but that doesn't stop him from embarking on fishing in exotic locations with friends"

Big Waits fan, saw him live in Knoxville (nice town btw.)
I have seen Fishing with John!! Forgot about that one, there were only a few made.. think I may have caught just the episode with Tom Waits, and the ice fishing one with Dafoe. I was 13 when Down by Law came out, so I think it just missed my radar entirely.

Yep- dead in the middle of the city in the center. I however will hang on tooth and nail to my east coast upbringing in NJ, moved here when I was 20. Had to learn how to make a proper thin crust pizza pie!! :p

Thanks for the tip- I may check them out sometime!

*edit
They look like sweet folks- checked out the Myspace page for the shop. I've played with the Erbo pipe at a friends- that little bugger was cool- esp when half the people had head colds, no one wanted to share germs!

And back on track.. Gran Torino or Everything is Illuminated? Have both, trying to pick something to watch tonight..

Just saw, Let the Right One In, a Swedish vampire flick. If you're into this genre, it's worth checking out. Very good film.

Hollywood has felt it necessary to remake this movie in english, I hope they don't butcher it.

Really.

The Blu-Ray has an option to view it in Swedish with English subtitles or in English, dubbed. I switched back and forth, but again, the Swedish with English subtitles is soooo much better. One of the things that I noticed with films that are dubbed, is typically the voice over artists are at the same distances from the mic regardless of film content, which really throws things off. You just don't get the audio spatial clues when things are dubbed.

But yeah, unless it's made by an Indie, Hollywood will make this film for the typical American market, and as such, will lose that thing that makes foreign films like this so special. The Swedish version was beautifully filmed in a minimalistic kind of way with a great soundtrack and very few special effects. Just great story telling with great cinematography. Highly recommended.

Thanks! Just put that in my queue on my library requests.. :)

I hate watching foreign films in the dubbed English- not only is the sound odd, but sometimes I recognize the actor doing the voice-over and that really distracts me. Plus, I love listening to the original language.. subtitles just fly by and I don't even realize I'm reading them.

After you watch this, could ya do me a favor and report back if you thought that it was a happy ending or a sad ending. For me, it was both. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Yeah, except that Osker could very well turn out to be like the old guy that she was living with. That older guy could have very well been just like Oskar many years ago. They very well could have had the same kind of relationship.

I kinda flip flopped back and forth on that one.

Any movie that keeps you thinking about the possibilities long after watching it is a good one.

in the book the old man is explained, and plays a larger part than in the movie. He is an extreme pedophile. Eli tolerates him because what he can do. Oskars relationship is different because Eli returns his affection.

yes. better and darker than the movie. Most of the old man stuff has been cut out of the movie. Book has a broader focus on the storytelling
