Considering Rosin as an option for reliable and functional microdosing

Hey @all,

I know that concentrates are the "new" thing and ppl are using it to reach new heights in their highs. All fine, but I'm wondering if it could also be a better way of medicating throughout daytime. From what I've read it's a clearer high so my guess is that if you do microdoses with Rosin, it will maybe be an effective way of treating pain with less side effects as possible.

For example while microdosing the Bedrocan strain (Jack Herer) it will leave me much more functional vaporized at 185°C than smoked. Even if I go higher in temperature, it works better for me than smoked. While I used to think that a concentrate like Rosin would be over the top for my needs, I began to think recently that the opposite could be the case as well.

Interestingly, I don't find much information on this.

The other thing is, if you think Rosin would be a better option and a "clearer" one, could I use my Dynavap/Vapman/Mighty with a concentrate pad or do I have to "dab" which at this point I haven't read into it at all. It looks complicated and I like the ease of use of my Vapes...

Dosing is subjective. What is micro for one is macro for others.

People suggest a banger/e-nail combo because then your dosage is more controllable. You have greater control over temperature and the dab surface is designed specifically for concentrates, so you can more effectively vaporize a very small amount of concentrate on a low-temp banger with a great cap.

Another option, though not as good imo (others will disagree.) is a mod box and maybe a divine tribe donut or other 510 connected dabbing attachment. These do pretty well with tiny micro doses and if you don't over cook your dab, and swab after every session, the surface should stay pretty clean.

Not that you can't get the job done in your vapcap or mighty. It will work fine, but the experience is different. You are not getting it all in one go with this method, just several small puffs as you heat the ss pad in the chamber. Some people dig this method though, and if it works for you, more power to ya.

e-nail setups only seem complicated at first though. They really are simple, and if you allow them, can become a bedrock of a dedicated vape station. If you find you have a vaping "spot," in your place, give it a try. You'd be surprised how organized it can become.

That's true. For me it's around 7,5 mg THC. Others might disagree. I should have said my effective dosage point or something. Still, I would consider that amount as tiny.

But the point is, which way of medicating leaves you with the best functionality? Or is there no difference in that while vaping flower or Rosin when taking in the same amount of THC? Or maybe that is highly subjective?

When simply vaporizing flower at the desired temperature, you might grab a few more active cannabinoids which would get left behind in a heat pressing, but rosin is pretty full spectrum. You are essentially vaporizing the same chemicals regardless of the method used. The concentrate is cleaner as well, free of particulate, which also tends to lend to what people perceive as a less hazy experience. And to be honest, I feel that it is gentler on my lungs to use concentrate, and the effects a bit cleaner because of that.

Does that equate to greater functionality? I am not so sure. Depends on your self control. Because concentrates are so much smoother, so too is it that much easier to over indulge. I personally find that I overindulge with concentrates, and while my lungs feel clearer, I'm like Icarus always flying too close to the sun, and needing a nap shortly after lunchtime.

I agree with the cleaner aspect. I have been turning to conc like shatter and now rosin for several reasons, but the idea of less bits and pieces flying around is a big one. I also feel vaping conc is easier on my throat because there is less vaping needed. I can get to my level through two small hits compared to 4-6 hits to spend a bowl of flower. I put my conc in some cotton and vape through a log vape and a glass gong. I get a pretty uniform experience this way. I do still like the flavor I get from the first few hits off a flower bowl. It is also very easy to go too far on a bowl of rosin or shatter IMO, so tread lightly at first.

Did I also mention that I like having a few tiny jars around compared to big mason jars everywhere?

I also get Bedrocan strain amongst others. It has <1% of CBD so I don't think is the best strain to use for daytime concentrates. Id prefer a mix with Bedrolite or Bediol to bring some 6/9% CBD to the party. Or you'll end up with a concentrate consisting in 60/70% THC, almost no CBD. Not the best thing to mess with in the morning imho.

Usually flowers, occasionally some kief. :sherlock:

@invertedisdead your 6T35 is the model I was also considering then next time I have some cash saved up. I keep getting wooed by the 10T35v but you then have to buy the pump so it becomes more pricey. How much flower do you squeeze at one time, and are you happy with the 6 tons of pressure? I just worry about how much rosin I would get out of my medicine. I would consider my available flower organic and clean but about mid-shelf in strength or dankness.

I can easily see myself going all rosin and I do microdose. I just put a small flake of rosin (rice grain size) on some cotton and only need 1-2 hits through my log vape to get me to my preferred level. So microdosing is a necessity for me. I have about 3 grams of various rosin and shatter. By platooning between my choices during each session it takes me about 2-3 months to finish a gram. I guess I woild only need to press enough to make a gram or two of rosin each month.

For the OP, I do notice less side effects with rosin over flower myself. Less throat irritation with less or no bits of flower flying around and less hits needed. I might have already said this earlier, if so I'm sorry. I'm currently under medication ;) Doctor's orders and so forth

I usually press 3.5-7g of flower at a time. The 6 tons has been fine for me, I was using caged Dabpress 3x5" plates on a 12 ton Harbor Freight press before the BJ6T35. I like this model because it is much more compact and more convenient for me to press with. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything for the amounts I press.

Your needs could be easily met by the 6T35. You might even consider the 3x3. For someone that wants to press 14g of flower or more and max the plates out I would suggest the 10 ton model though.

On average I find it takes around 5-7 grams of material to get 1 gram of rosin.

I think microdosing concentrates works great, especially rosin. Just don't let the vapor smoothness get to you to the point you increase your doses and you're golden!

It is pretty obvious you get lighter effect from vaporizing at 185C than smoking Bedrocan.
Vaporizing at 160C for sure will yield less effects than doing it at 210C.
At the same time heating to 185 and inhaling the vapor will be lighter than heating to 500C and inhaling the smoke.
Your vaporizers are ok for concentrates, the only issue would be how to exactly measure your 7,5mg of THC dab.
Imho it would be easier with flower. To get 7,5mg of THC you need 34 mg of Bedrocan flower that's already a tiny amount to measure.
