Coconut Oil + Cannabis

In my recent nutrition research, I've been coming across a lot of positive information about coconut oil. For one, it is more stable than many other unsaturated fats, when heated (frying, etc.), meaning that it doesn't degrade into unhealthy chemicals, as rapidly. Another benefit, is that at room temperature (~75F) it becomes a pretty hard solid (you can crack off chunks like you can with hard cheeses). This makes portioning it out very easy. This quality also makes it great for smoothies, since it can be melted down for the mixing process, and then when it cools down in the smoothie, it should add creaminess to the texture.

What do you guys think about the following method for infusing coconut oil?

-Put the desired amount of coconut oil and finely Cannabis into a mason jar. Cover the mason jar with aluminum foil.

-Put the mason jar in a pot, with about two inches of water on the bottom, and set it to boil constantly but not too intensely. If you wait until it is boiling, to add the mason jar, the glass might crack.

-Leave it for 20 minutes.

-Strain the oil, and either portion it out with measuring spoons, or skip straight to popping it in the fridge, to harden. If you let it harden first, you can cut it up with a sharp knife, instead.

EverythingsHazy,
That is basically Sous Vide.

You still need to decarb the pot first. 200F for 1 hour in an air tight bag (or jar) to decarb.

And 200F for about 4hours to infuse (oil or butter).

Sousweed.com or Google "sous vide cannabis".

Is that method for ABV as you do not mention decarbing the bud?

I always hated straining the final mix and now have another method, untried at this point. I wanted to keep the grassy crap out of the coconut oil from the beginning, to avoid having to strain it.

I now have some T-sacs to try. They are made from unbleached and chlorine free paper :)
And come in several sizes. They are designed as a tea bag for loose teas.

I'd simmer in your mason jar setup for 90 minutes, just to make sure you get max extraction.
Squish the T-Sac with a spoon to get most of the oil out from it and voila, infused coconut oil.

Are you sure about the decarbing, even with the fat and >200F temperature?

I haven’t tried it, myself, but I have seen someone eat a chunk made with that method that had 0.25g worth of freshly ground bud, and get baked for several hours. They had a very low tolerance, though.

I haven’t personally ever tried a legitimate edible.

The tea filters look perfect.

I only use coconut oil (made with a pinch of sunflower lecithin) to make my edibles. And I always decarb the bud first.

My favorite edible of late has been infused peanut butter cookies with mini M&M's. Yummmy!

The T-Sac teabags seem to keep even the tiny tea dust out of my tea vs a lot of stuff makes it thru my tea ball
That sounds very effective, and definitely worth a shot with the coconut oil infusing.

Coconut oil is definitely a go to oil for cannabis infusion.

Decarbing is almost always neccessary. Not sure about with the method you mentioned tho.

Here is the recipe I follow https://www.dudegrows.com/make-potent-cannabis-oil-aka-canna-butter/ plus a decarb temperature graph that is always handy https://imgur.com/a/8hsza7c.

7 minutes at 293F is interesting.
