HEY there FC. Darn you guys, I just bought a brand new Crafty after many days of lurking. You guys weren't kidding about how fantastic it is though!! But I've only had it for about a week, and now I can't help but want another vape (I've gotta stay away from here). Mainly because the price is just so good, and it seems like log vapes are the real kings of efficiency.

My question is: the main difference between the products themselves is the use of AC or DC right? The way I see it after doing much researching: I buy a "Holiday Sale Vape" from Underdog for $158, throw a $7 12V dimmer switch on there, and I have temp control and equivalent performance to the e-nano for $20 less. Is there anything wrong with that idea?

Thanks!

There's a thread that compares the Underdog and the Enano. I have the Enano and love mine. A very nice vaporizer that's easy to clean and use plus doesn't use a lot of product. I would do a search for info or somebody might want to chime in. I'm sure it's been talked about.

Edit
The enano has temp 1 - 11. My fav temp is 6.25 probably about 380 degrees. That's my estimation I could be wrong though.

I love a glass air path.

The dimmer switch will make it so you can turn the power down, if you want true temp control you will need a vvps for a UD.

You may be able to get away with just a dimmer switch, it really depends on your temp prefrence and how hot whichever UD you end up with runs. If by chance you want higher temps the dimmer switch isn't going to help you. Hopefully that makes sense.

I have both as do many around hear, definetly both awesome efficient vapes.

@CarolKing Awesome. Easy to clean and efficiency is where it's at for a desktop vape, the Extreme Q just doesn't cut it anymore compared to even my Crafty. I did read through a good 6-7 threads + a couple reviews. It seems to me they are identical efficiency wise once you have a temp control on them - I just was hoping someone could confirm that.

@vinnyzan Yeah, VVPS control is also fine by me since I don't plan to be taking it anywhere. I do prefer a higher temp vape, ~410ish. So - maybe it's no cost difference if I factor in the VVPS, but finer temp control and better CS for the UD. But, still, the most important factor to me is efficiency. Definitely seems like I will be happier either way.. leaning towards UD for that instant gratification factor!

I can't say its "finer" temp control, personally ive never used a vvps but with that being said the temp control on the nano is perfect as far as abilty to "fine tune" goes.

Like i said though ive never used a Vvps so I can't say its not better. Im sure some one else has already been through this though.

If you want efficiency go with the UD and a nylon stem. From my experience stainless steel tips lend themselves towards conservation more than Nano stems. I own a voltage keeper and I find a VVPS's to be unnecessary with stainless steel roasting tips (nylon stems) or 10mm glass roasting tips (for the HI). The roast is very thorough at the standard voltage with these tips. In the end both are great vapes that will put your Crafty to shame in nearly every regard.

How do you go about packing your nylon stems ? The reason I ask is because with my expeirence the nylon stems are less efficient.

Seem to get a "better" extraction using unground bud in the glass stems.

Could just be Im not packing it the best way.

I use the "straw method". Rarely filling above the edges of the screen. I can't cover the screen of a Nano stem with the amount I use in a SS tip.

I think the efficient pack that most use is just sucking in a bit and letting there be just a loose bit of herb in the basket and basically using it as a 1(or 2) hitter.

They sell cords on sale at the UD site for WPS. I have both the e-nano and the underdog. I end up using the underdog more probably because of the variety of stems that come with it. I chose to get a water adaptor along with several other stems. I don't use a WPS probably because I vape with water. I think on the underdog thread they talk about where to get a WPS.
I know I can buy extra stems for the e-nano but since I rarely use it I haven't bought them

Put it to shame? Nah. Have you had a chance to try one? This thing is a little beast. Big hits from a half packed bowl. A full bowl is incredibly medicating for me, tasty too. For a portable I don't think you could ask for more - no more joints & pipes for me. But I'm not always happy losing herb to it's slight conduction where I could have a better option, like at home. I definitely notice the loss.

Based on this and the rest of the conversation above me, think I'll be going with an Underdog since I can try out 4 stems from the get go. Love the idea of a 1 hitter on my computer desk as I do whatever. Great info - thank you all.

Yeah, think I will pick up some water accessories myself and not worry about the power supply for the time being. One of the reasons I want the Underdog is because it looks to pair perfectly with a D020D bubbler from DHgate. Little concerned about the draw on the d020d though, heard some say it could be a little restrictive.. IDK

I'm not sure what the do20d is but I have the do20 and use it with the ud. It is much less restrictive than my arizers. The DO20 needs an adapter because it's larger than the UD and I think it makes a difference in terms of restrictiveness depending on what adapter I use. But I don't really experience it as restrictive.

little maggie,
UD does not take 4x longer to warm up compared to my hi or my brothers nano that I borrow.

Ok what 3x ? I've never heard of a nano taking longer than 10 mins, 25-30 seems to be the norm on UD? I read atleast 100 pages concerning both, there was consistent mention of the nanos 4-8 min heatup vs the UD's 20-30 min heatup.

To be clear I'm not knocking UD by any means, but by all accounts its slower to heat up compared to the nano. I plan on getting one down the line, upset I missed the $100 econodog in classifieds but had just ordered my vapman. Gotta tone down VAS for a while.

I did read a lot of old pages, I forgot that less mass on newer air cores sped up heat up time. I believe I read they are standardizing the air core soon.
The standards heat up faster now as well. He's always tweaking the cores and now the standard will be temporarily phased out until he remakes the standard core.

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
Don't have a UD, but I love my nano.

I like to set it at 6 and give it 20 min. I can tell when it's ready but picking it up. The level of warmth in my hand tells me when it's ready. It's like a warm, living thing.

IDK about how efficient it is compared to other logs, but it is the most efficient vape I own. If I vape 2 bowls each night, then a gram of herb will last me at least a week. With the close exception of the Lotus, my other vapes can't hold a candle to this.

I don't need a variety of stems. All I need is one glass gong and the rest is history.

Say no more, say no more. A wink is as good as a nudge to a blind bat. ;)

I just picked up a UD a month or two ago and I can verify that I get a more than satisfactory vape in less than ten minutes and totally heated up in less than fifteen minutes.

Most days my routine is get home, plug in my UD, go into my room and change out of my work clothes (which takes a few minutes more than some since I wear slacks, tie, dress shirt etc. that I have to hang up). By the time I get into my workout/chill clothes and break-up a stem the UD is right there waiting for me all ready to go.

Same thing in the morning. Wake up, plug in UD, shower and get dressed and it's ready to go.

Quick note that my UD is ready to roast an SS stem to dark brown within 10 minutes, glass stems I usually wait a half hour or so for complete heat soak through the log.

I just touch the core stem and if it burns me then it's hot enough for the SS stems.

You just cannot beat the speed and service of @underdog and @underdogette. They just will do anything to make you happy.

A full VVPS with the works is only 35 and another $12 or so to buy the wire on the UD site. It gives you the most precise temp control you can get as you have a HUGE range from super low 6.V or so to you better not go there 15v. $45 extra for that kind of precision is worth it for such a classy vape.

I have been keeping it about 12.2 but I need to dial it back to 11.7 or so as I cracked (but didn't break because of it's quality) my glass gong holding it there too long.

If I could make one humble suggestion, it's that they should reintroduce wood stems. I love @Ed's TnT wood stem with his HUGE SS brushing. It actually goes around my standard core heater. I hope Underdog sell that design full time because it does such a fantastic job flavor and function wise. Not that I don't fully get into the glass, SS, and Nylon stems they already make, but I also enjoy having a wood stem or two with my Dog.

Yes it gets hot fast now-I bought my pup about three months ago. I mostly am using it with a HT Cloud Buddy, pairing it with my tube's. Flavor town indeed. I am sure a Nano is cool, but I love the home made touch and service you get with the dog. I also am sure the Hi is super nice, but when I want a new vape I really don't want to wait a year. With the Dog you have so many ready made choices you can play with, and even custom jobs are really quick.

So for me- you want a Log you get the Dog! No I am sure they are all good, but the Dog was best for me and it will work without any of the glitches the Crafty has yet to work out. I mean temp control by blue tooth is interesting, but I prefer reaching over to my VVPS dial and turning it without thinking any more about it. Hell I am turning 40 my phone isn't even smart, I work at home, and enjoy collecting records, books, and DVD, some video games, and vaping. I like being at home so yes I have one of thos enice sounding CLEAR landlines, and a really neat thing called a turntable that doesn'y play digital samples of music, but actual music.

I also know my vapor path is far cleaner and clearer with a Dog than with a Crafty. Nobody would ever credibly say it's any weaker or less efficient with herb either. The dog is a different sort of pack with your loading being sucking your herb into a wand It's hard at first to get the right grind, or to know the exact amount you want as far as getting the best session length vrs best air flow. However, once you realize what works best in each stem, it will become natural.
