Cannabis and the immune system

I don't place much value on 'scientific' studies on cannabis use which only involves the smoking of it - certainly when they deliver negative findings. I can believe that sometimes weed smoking is of greater benefit than no weed at all.

But saying that you shouldn't use weed because weed is bad for you, according to studies of those who smoke it, is like saying that people shouldn't play too much basketball or tennis (or whatever physical sport) because studies have shown that playing games is bad for your physical fitness, when of course the only game playing studied would be of video games.

haha! good point...i thought you were going more in the direction of "basketball is harmful according to an experiment done sampling all of the players who got injured and needed a surgery"...but video games makes it funnier!

Cannabis suppresses the inflammatory cytokines that cause death in the flu.

Blunting the patient response may in fact provide for a better outcome," while still eradicating the virus, said Dr. Hugh Rosen of the Scripps Research Institute in LaJolla, Calif., senior author of the new study.

Cannabinoids suppress inflammatory response and subsequently attenuate disease symptoms. This property of cannabinoids is mediated through multiple pathways such as induction of apoptosis in activated immune cells, suppression of cytokines and chemokines at inflammatory sites and upregulation of FoxP3+ regulatory T cells

With a deadly flu season in the offing and a shortage of Tamiflu, that is reassuring news.

By definition, a weaker immune system means you do poorly during an infection," said Virgin. "But what does weaker really mean? Maybe it means you're more prone to inflammation."

based on this:

Cannabis is
anti-viral, anti-pyretic, anti-bacterial and anti-biotic.

as well as..

anti-proliferative, anti-neoplastic, anti-mutagenic

what wonders me here, in the top line it says "Treats HIV " and then medicinal term is Immunosuppressant
while it should be the opposite or it would be not being a medical appliciation.
