Los Angeles Set To Open Its First Medical Marijuana Farmers Market
The Huffington Post

Los Angeles’ first medical marijuana farmers market is set to launch July 4, 2014 marking a unique opportunity for card-carrying cannabis patients to purchase a variety of products, including cannabis flowers, edibles and concentrates, directly from growers.

The new farmers market, which will feature 20 to 50 vendors, will be held at the West Coast Collective in East Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles California Heritage Market's executive administrator, Paizley Bradbury, views the market as an opportunity to expand patients' limited access to medical marijuana while allowing them to bypass dispensaries’ broker markups and misleading product analysis.

“It’s going to be so much easier for patients to get their medicine at a more affordable rate, and something that they can trust,” Bradbury told Time magazineon Thursday. “They can say ‘How did you grow this? Is it organic? What kind of nutrients did you use? What kind of strain is this?’ There’s just so much more behind it.”

The market will also provide consumers with more reliable access to cannabis products, as hundreds of Los Angeles dispensaries face growing pressure to shut down after the city’s voters passed new rules restricting where and how medical marijuana dispensaries can operate.

Unable to cultivate medical marijuana themselves, the majority of California's roughly 572,762 registered medical marijuana patients rely on dispensaries for safe access to cannabis to treat the symptoms of numerous illnesses, including AIDS, cancer and multiple sclerosis.

The California Heritage Market plans to run every weekend, but Bradbury has already sought legal counsel from an in-house lawyer to safeguard against any potential legal challenges.

“With this industry, you just never really know how things are going to turn out until after you do it,” Bradbury told Time.

As the first state to legalize cannabis for medicinal purposes, California has garnered millions of dollars in revenue from marijuana since its legalization in 1996. In 2007, the state collected more than $100 million in sales tax from marijuana facilities.

Despite California's growing pot market, marijuana remains illegal under federal law, which has also contributed to the closure of hundreds of marijuana businesses under the Obama administration’s crackdown on the state's cannabis operations.

im so going to this

I'm already there... :) But seriously, I'll be going to this as well. I'm really interested in growing marijuana myself and want to pick up some seeds here from some top producers in Cali. It was a throw-up between this and the Kush Expo which happening at the same time as this unfortunately. :(

I think I'll go check this out after the World Cup games. I've always been jealous of those that get to go to these farmers markets.

Here is the address:

I wonder how security works at an event like that. Not like a dispensary building where you can lock it down and control traffic easily I would think...

I'm guessing it would be like a beer garden at a music festival?

Control the access, stamp the hands, issue a smartphone code... ;)

Well, I went to check out the Farmer's Market in LA today. I was glad that I went late in the day, as I was told that before I had arrived there was a line around the block.

I took a few pictures for anyone interested.

It was in a warehouse in back of the collective itself. They checked Dr. recommendations in the collective itself (which was otherwise closed) and you got a wristband to enter the market. There was no cover, and I waited less than 5 minutes to gain access.

There was a huge line for one particular booth that was selling $25 GSC 1/8ths. I paid between $30 and $35 for three different strains from various booths. It was nice chatting with the growers themselves about how each strain was created, harvested, cured, etc...

Check out the name of this strain.....

It was actually called "Farmer's Choice" but I had to snap a picture as I found it funny. :p
That same booth had these huge boxes of pre-rolled joints that looked just like regular cigarettes. 200 to a box for $600 ($3 a piece) but they were handing them out free of charge to anyone who seemed interested.

I'm glad I went and will probably go back. All in all I found some good bargains and even picked up an ashtray.

I was also there, had a good time. The man at the New Age Botanicals game an eight of Kandy Kush just because I gave him a positive review on weedmaps.
I also scored a free cigarette/joint like the one on the picture above.
I guess @Stu an I were there at the same time, because I remember being next to the bald man with glasses on the third picture from the top, you know? the man that was complaining at the blond budtender for assisting people cutting in line?.
The line for the $25.00 eights was long but bearable.
I also got some of the $30.00/eight bud, but one thing I observed that didn't make sense is how you can get a 4 gram for $25.00, but only 14 grams for $100.00?
Overall an ok experience, I confess that I showed up early, but left after seeing the long line, only to come back later to a more shorter one.

IMO that shit was the fucking bomb.. Really interesting strain too.. Haze x Thai x OG ... AMAZING QUALITY BUD IMO.. That bud stood out right away, over every other bud I looked at before it.. IMO it was on another level than anything I saw.. $30 1/8

No, wish I had, I might have to go back again, lol.
I like haze a lot, and OG too.
The $30/eight I have got was an OG, and it reminded me of the planetaries, very well done.

That was one of the main reasons I went there, didn't find any deals on wax/shatter that I won't find at my dispensary. So sorry about San Jose.

I see, he looks like he had one of the booths at the opposite end of West Coast Collective, where I spent most of my time standing on line. Now, I think I definitely have to go back.
Did you get any of it?

Was thinking about going today but it does not seem like the deals are that great compared to my collective . Especially because of the drive (about a hr for me )
That said I hope it is successful and I will prob. try to go to the next one .

Thanks everyone who went and gave the great reports!

Yeah, he was in the back corner.. He only has that one strain too..
I did get some and I'm very happy w/ it
Yeah, I missed him, reason why is I didn't have much free time to spend, I had to go back home to get the 4 of July party preparations ready.
I'll definitely go back since I'm not far away from it, hope he has some left.

Oh... oh wow! Nostalgia!

When I was in High School I bought that exact same sized 200ct box of Zig Zag cig tubes, with a tube-loading machine, with the intent of filling them with cannabis and marketing them when I went to college.

I could never get the weird tube machine to work (much more finnicky than a traditional rolling machine) so I gave up and threw away the box

Glad to see someone figured it out.

I went back Sunday afternoon and half of the booths were sold out, and the ones left had great deals on everything.
I didn't leave empty handed, I left with a great OG for a good price, she weighted the eight almost 6 grams. I couldn't believe it.
Anyway, I'm posting because I was told this is going to be weekend thing from now on, so if anybody missed the first one, don't worry it will be here again.

Yeah, Sunday was much better if you found what you were looking for, everybody dropped their prices.
I went there looking for the man who had the strain described by @Buildozer, but he was not there anymore, there was a new guy with a different strain, no big deal, I left with a total of 1/2 oz. (both days) of really good herb.
BTW, there was no waiting on Sunday, and I found parking across the gate.
