Best/Worst advice from a doc was . . .

ok, so doctors can be a convenient lightning rod for when things go wrong so I will start this thread off with something that has worked out great for me. Since my immune system is suppressed, I started having some problems with MRSA and Staph infections. Went to see an infectious diseases expert, up at OHSU, who told me to start showering with Hibiclens.

http://www.hibiclens.com/

I buy it by the gallon and use it in the shower and have not had a problem since. Believe me, it beats going to the emergency room to have your butt lanced on your wedding anniversary! TRUE STORY!!!

So lets hear what you guys have had for "outstanding" advice, one way or the other.

edit: Do not get this stuff in your eyes and if you get it on a towel which then touches bleach in the wash, it will react and make a brown stain of sorts. I just use black bath towels and rinse off really well.

Thanks for the reply lepstadder. Unfortunately my immune system is suppressed by design. Human Monoclonal Antibodies are on my medication list to specifically turn off parts of my immune system so it will stop attacking me. My current drug inhibits Interleukin but I have been on TNF@ blockers for years now. Remicade was probably the strongest chemo I have had to date. Yes these drugs are classed as chemo. That one ended badly for me when my body finally rejected it . . .

Yeah, it turned out to be one of the most practical, useful pieces of advice I have ever gotten from a doctor. It has been great so hoping to see some insights from the community here on other issues.

Both my GP and a specialist strongly advised me to take EPO (Erythropoetin sp?) because I was severely anemic due to kidney damage. I refused because the EPO was of human origin, and at that point (Fall 2001) synthetic EPO was not approved for human consumption in Canada. Well, lifestyle and diet change eliminated the need to take that stuff.

More recently, my GP charted me as using Marijuana AMA (against medical advice) and told me to stop using it.

4 months ago the specialist told me to 'go ahead and use it' noting but not caring that the GP thinks it is addictive.

Tons more good and bad advice because I've been seeing both guys for over 10 years.
