i use a machine -- NordicTrack -- it's right outside my office so it is too hard to ignore - i use it almost every day. i skip a day every now and then just to prove to myself i'm not a dogmatist (catmatist? (i have 3 that let me serve them)). after 30 years, it's gotten to the point that if i don't sweat every damn day, i just don't feel right.

Same here, but in defence it's been due to withdrawl (going on 2 weeks of 3 week t-break) and I had some weird 48hr flu. I've dropped alot of weight so i'm pretty ripped, but need to start lifting again and pack on some of that muscle that atrophied.

You're a trail runner Vhole? There is a fantastic wood chip trail near my house that has all sorts of little hills and runs through the woods in a circle...great on the joints and the scenery is awesome. Especially since it's right on a massive lake (Ontario).

Indeed! Been hitting the trails for quite a few years now. And yes, it's less impact. But I also dig the exploration factor. I live near mountains and love taking new trails (with my GPS and map of course).

That's awesome dude, I do the same...I can't believe how much more challenging it is (even on flats dodging roots, rocks etc) than "regular" running. Sure keeps ya fit!

I've been out of MMA as well for a week. A dislocated shoulder will do that though...hard to grapple when you can't put weight on your shoulder.

Alongside my normal exercise regime I got a book for christmas about the fountain of youth, which if you are into spiritual stuff is interesting (book review link below). It refers to the rites which are what appear to be 5 very basic exercises and it encourages you to do them every day to "align your shakras". This is why Tibetan monks who are pensioners look a lot younger allegedly. It doesn't take long and I believe that there are some genuine benefits, not that I suddenly look like a handsome young buck again overnight (did I ever really?). Could well be an aspect of placebo to it but it would be great to hear the views of others who practice already or who have a read and give it a go.

Do you think martial arts and vaping go hand in hand? I'm a practitioner of Shotokan Karate and find it hard to follow instructions when i'm too vaked. I think MMA might be different in that sense because it is more about style and creativity as apposed to replicating exact techniques like in karate.

I would recommend it even less. Especially if you train MMA striking. I know some people really enjoy grappling after medicating but that is a bit different. I personally never train high, did it once and hated it.

The problem with MMA and being toasted or something is that there is so much going on it's easy to lose concentration. Furthermore, many friends of mine and myself have found that we blink a lot more too, which is BAD if someone with firing punches at your head. My friend and I were sparring once after a vape session and we both blinked everytime a punch came at our way. We both don't usually do that, so it was a pretty weird experience.

I just feel like in a sport like MMA where you are focusing on so many different things (striking, grappling wrestling, transitions from striking to grappling or grappling to striking, submissions, etc) doing it baked probably isn't a good idea, at least for live drilling.

Now, as far as thinking and planning new strategies or techniques or simply just individual training (like hitting a heavy bag or a speed bag), there shouldn't be a problem. I'll find myself shadow boxing for an hour straight sometimes, don't even realize it :p

great to see other vaporists involved in the gentle arts! i've been training brazilian jiu jitsu for about four and a half years now. and agreed! i've found that for your technical rolling a little vape can be cool. but if i was to do a fight in a competitive environment i'd probably wait till after to hit the vape.

First post here, and boy am I glad to have found this thread!!!

I have only been on the herbs for a year. Since I care about my body and I train rigorously five days a week. I knew vaping was the way to go.

Then I bought her...yes her...my beautiful Phoenix (Arizer Extreme Q). People I know would pause at the sight of her and think to themselves "What the fuck is that thing?" After using they would know and understand how Vaping is the real deal.

I always get made fun of because I vape, happen to be very into CrossFit, and constantly am doing Tough Mudders.

I am used to being the only person I know who vapes and is "fit". Its amazing to find 11 pages worth of people just like me = ).

I look forward to be a contributing member of the FC environment!

Sidenote, I am looking to hook up a water bong to my Extreme Q. I dont actually own any glass =/ but from what I have read here and elsewhere I would be looking for something small (less than 12 inches). Maybe a bubbler (which I dont want because I LOVE the effect ice gives Vapor). My budget is up to $150 the less the better obviously. I do want a neat looking piece though. Feel three to throw some suggestions my way!

This is the best I managed to pull of (I urge you guys to try this)

Welcome to FC! Yes, you're in the right thread, my friend. I'm training for a trail marathon and an ironman tri. I dig vaping and endurance sports--a perfect match.

Trail Marathon sounds beautiful to me. Yesterday was my first day running since September (foot injury) ran for 20 minutes at a pretty slow pace in my vibrams. Calves are quite sore today (love that feeling). Tomorrow I'll end up doing Fran (CrossFit WOD) or a mix of rowing/pullups/back crunches/bench I'll set it up in intervals with little to no rest.

I really wish we had trails out here in Southwest CT. There is NOTHING around here. A few good spots, but they all loop after 3 miles!

Glad to have foun a home. Thank you for the warm welcome!

I vape every night, and I'm an avid runner. My event of choice is half marathons, both road and trail races. Right now I'm training for the Rock N Roll Half Marathon here in San Diego. It's a pretty cool event, they have a bunch of bands playing at various locations along the course. I always get a little anxious the night before the race so to ensure a good nights sleep I'll probably load up a heavy Indica like Bubba or Purple urkle. Ok, I might even add a little hash LOL.

It's nice to hear from others who have found vaping and a healthy lifestyle go together perfectly!!

That's great! I found trail running and never looked back. Having easy access to great trails helped. When I lived back east I had nary a trail to run on.

Yes, it's great to find like-minded vaporists, and thanks to FC I've been able to learn a lot from this thread. Whereas I wouldn't really be able to ask about this outside the forum.

I know the rock n roll series well. I've not done San Diego, but I did Portland, OR recently. I dig the 1/2 marathon distance too and have done many road and trail 1/2 marathons.

Cheers to you both and all the best with your endeavors!

I have to do something and get my ass back into healthy activities. I run somewhat of a large company which is owned by a person I have grown very close to over the years. He is now semi-retiring and my responsibilities have become somewhat overbearing. I'm left with very little time to myself, even when I try and work from the house most of my time is spent on the phone. On top of that I have 3 young children that take whatever time is left and by all means - rightfully so. With that being said I have little to no time over the last %$ years to devote to any ME time let alone exercise. I have tried to move my vape sessions as late in the day as possible as once I have a session I become a bit lazy. I am in the process of changing my diet and plan on adding some light exercise into my routine next week. I am going to start walking - its the only thing I could think that would be low impact and would certainly start to improve heart health.

One question I have is, how do you all find energy after vaping to hit the trails? Are you only vaping after hours?

I can almost NEVER sleep the night before any kind of race (the adrenaline powers me through). Half marathons are the perfect length! I find that vaping significantly increases my muscle recovery time.

Thanks brother good luck to you too. How is everyone training going?

Also, if you want some sort of encouragement I urge you to watch Discovery Channels Surviving the cut (its on netflix). Any time I feel like I have a hard workout coming up that I dont want to do I'll watch that.

I spend 90% of my day sober. That way I have been able to acclimate vaping into my life is by getting everything I need done BEFORE I start vaping. On days off when I have nothing to do I will run all my errands, workout, drink my recovery shake, and vape while hydrating and eating.
I must applaud you for taking the biggest step of any journey. That is recognizing the need to maintain the beautiful machine that is your body. The good green earth should assist the healthy lifestyle not hinder one.
Starting walking and changing my diet is how I dropped 40 lbs a year and a half ago. If you have ANY questions regarding workouts, diets, or anything health related. I will be glad to assist you on your journey. Best of luck and remember you owe it to YOURSELF.
Quick tip: If you were to talk to your family about spending time to yourself would they be ok with that? My boss does this one a year on his birthday. He gets a hotel room and just spends his time in the quiet. Says it helps him ALOT!

Fortunately or unfortunately, herb has always been an "upper" for me. Usually, I cannot go to sleep for hours after vaping (or smoking, when I used to). So I vape and get all jazzed up and go running in the evening. I actually used to have a "no smoke after 7:00pm policy" so I could be in bed at a time that would leave me rested for work the next day. I have a professional job and a wife and child. Running (my preferred form of exercise) is really important to me. I get out on trails with a headlamp during the weekday evenings and out on the trail during weekends.

I HAVE heard that you are more likely to abuse/become addicted to drugs that have an upper effect. Stereotypically, the folks that become alcoholics are the ones that get a rush of energy from booze. Not the ones that fall asleep after drinking too much.

EDIT: And walking is GREAT! I love walking and hiking and backpacking. I walk one day during the week as a "recovery workout" but really look forward to it. Different muscles than running. Low impact. Healthful. Awesome.

i use my NordicTrack first thing in the morning -- running on a calorie deficit -- full body sweat -- then i hit the vape. Best hits of the day.

we have too many animals around here for me to feel safe on the road. gf has been bitten several times.

i highly recommend the NT for fitness -- not strength building, i have a BowFlex for that. i had a sub-50 heart rate in my mid-40s. now i'm 65 and it's about 60.

Yeah, I think the half marathonis the perfect distance. It certainly qualifies as an endurance event without having to build up to 50 mile + training weeks required for marathon training. For my half marathon training I typically peak at around 30 - 35 mile weeks. In my view, the trai halfl marathons I have done are the ass kickers.. Too many long steep hills. LOL.....

    Mvapes,

Yeah, with kids it's tough to find time to train ( I have two kids myself). I guess I work hard to find balance between work, family, training and of course, vaping. As to your question " How do you find energy to after vaping to hit the trails?" I never vape before working out. I only vape late at night and occasionally during the day when I'm not working out and don't have a lot of things to do. Mj is great medicine, the only thing negative about it IMO is tha fact that when used to often or in large doses it makes you lazy and unmotivated to get things done.. That's great that you're starting to get active. I first started walking then running short distances then long distances then full on fucking running addiction. I love my runners high as well as my vaping highs. LOL.....

While I am not "in shape", my husband and I are quite active. We love cycling (usually ~30 miles at a time), 5k walks, and beaches, hiking in the rainforest, etc. I also swing a kettlebell around once in awhile, and try to do pull-ups/chin-ups. I am seriously into minimalist footwear (better yet, none), natural health methods, and just recently (Friday!!) got my sit/stand desk installed at work.

The only major improvement I've found so far, as far as vaping is concerned, is my knee inflammation & pain has dropped enough that I can do the stairs at work much easier. Recovery seems faster, too.
