Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

@Davinci_vaporizer : thanks for the advice. I guess I was being too hopeful based on how little I can put in the Solo. I increased the load as you said and it improved greatly.

I curled a screen up and placed it inside the hollow part of the spacer, but even with a screen, particles are getting through? When using my bong, the GonG U-tool and the bong down pipe is covered in leafy particles.

I have to assume the draw and air flow must be so strong on the Ascent, it's sucking particles through like a vacuum cleaner on full throttle.
Use a larger grind for your cannabis if you are still getting particles. Also a little cotton on top helps with the particles too. Then when it's resin filled you can vaporize it.

Some time back i posted a screen wedged inside the top chamber of unit - above the swiveled opening.

It's not a major issue, especially when using the U-Tool, as nothing enters my mouth. Just find it interesting that the same grind used in my Solo, with no screen I don't get any particles at all , not even in the stem neck?

Yet double glass screen (if using spacer) with holes a fraction the size of the holes in an Arizer stem and a metal gauze as well, and I'm still getting particles in the pathway and my mouth.

There must be a lot of drag on the Ascent where the air flow is pulling bits from the puck, where as the Solo has very little 'flow', so isn't tearing material away.

Still loving the Ascent either way, just haven't quite found my perfect use case scenario yet - certainly heading in the right direction though with all the great advice from FC :)

To this day I have still never had particles in my mouth from using the Ascent. My advice is, if the material of your load is larger than the holes in the glass, then you wont get any material through the holes.

First post here, have been lurking on and off for years but finally have to share about my recent experience with Davinci and the Ascent. Picked up a stealth Ascent through VaporNation last week for my fiancée and I to share, but we both like it so much I decided to get a customized Ascent with the bonus I just got from work. Contacted Davinci to ask about it, and was extremely happy with their customer service - not only were they prompt and extremely helpful, but I ended up with a freebie I would have gladly paid for!

Have been reading through this thread since I ordered the first Ascent so we're happily using glass flowers to help keep the load in place, and using the 14mm gong adapter as a mouthpiece for the better seal. Getting great flavor and nice vapor for a portable, and looking forward to my customized one arriving!

I was also very happy to find a Hydrotube with no logo on eBay for only $29 shipped! Compared to the name brand ones I assumed it would be junk, but was willing to risk the $29, and I'm glad I did! The holes are perfect size to allow water into the lower half but prevent it from getting to my mouth, and I much prefer the logo-less look as opposed to that hideous white logo on the branded tubes.

Anyway, just wanted to say thank you all for the sound advice in making the best of the Ascent - this vape's for you!

Awesome! Glad to hear you're enjoying your Ascent and it definitely sounds like you know how to get the most out of the experience. I love the Ascent paired with a hydrotube, and I agree branding is negligible. They all come from the same factories anyways.

Welcome, and Vape On!!

First off, howdy! Great first post, looking forward to more.

Glad you're having such great success. I assume the EBay glass was recommended here? Lots of good folks here abouts ready to pass the good word to help others. I trust advice here (for the most part at least). Hopefully soon you'll be slinging some around yourself?

Anyway, you're very definitely welcome for any part I may have paid, as I'm sure the rest of these characters are......it's sort of the way it is.

So, what you figure your next vape will be?

They all come from the same factories anyways.

Oh, say it ain't so.......say it ain't so.

After looking at the F-bomb and other glass, I was hesitant to spend $100+ on a water tool I didn't know if I would like. The Pinnacle 14mm hydrotube was recommended here, but the thread was littered with complaints about the ugly white logo. Rather than spending $70 for a branded tube, I decided to go the clone route, and I'm glad I did! Works great, and looks better than the tube with the goofy logo.

Thanks for the welcome and the wealth of information!

Hey guys!

New to FC but need some experienced vape users input...

First ever portable Vaporizer I got was the original Davinci and was happy with it but sold it recently after hearing about the new ascent, as I was doing my research on it I came across another portable vape called a Loki that really caught my eye (specifically the USB charge as opposed to the type of charger the Davinci uses along with the simplicity of it compared to the Ascent) this really appeals to me as does the style of the Loki compared to the Ascent. I've narrowed down my next purchase between these two vapes so please don't recommend the Pax2, grasshopper etc I really just wanna know the details when it comes to the Loki as it seems extremely new and have only found 1 video on it that has any real in depth reviews but I'm worried to get it because the last thing I want to do is to buy the Loki and than not be satisfied and than be out 120 that I could of put towards the Ascent especially when I know exactly what I'm getting with the Ascent, I don't have any doubt that the Ascent is worth the 199 I would pay for it and as I said I had the previous version so I know I would have no issues dealing with the people over at Davinci if I were to get a defected product or any other issue but obviously I am not as sure about the Loki service. 99% of the time I would be using dry herb but I love the flexibility of having the Ascent to know its perfectly capable of any other form, as opposed to the Loki it is unclear whether you could use oils with it without a oil cartridge to put in the chamber similar to the jars that come with the Ascent.

Also any opinions on which site would be better for purchasing either vapes between vaporizer.com or gotvape.com? never bought anything off either one so any input on that is greatly appreciated as well.

Any info on details, ease of use, cleaning, maintenance, durability, etc on the Loki and comparisons are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The Ascent has a long track record and despite some complaints is generally well thought of on here. One of their reps is a regular on this forum. The Loki, on the other hand, has no track record. So if you like taking risks, go for it.

I just got one of these new and the oven door doesn't close exactly flush with the body? Is this an issue or is it a defect? I know some complain about smoke escaping around this door. Is it because the doors don't close all the way?

Are you referring to the Loki or Ascent?

@gcifiz the Loki is a new vaporizer to the market. Read up on it in the Loki thread, there isn't much about it here on FC. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

The Ascent has been out for 2 years and most of the bugs are worked out. It is a nice portable to be able to dial in your exact temp that you prefer. You can buy the extra spacers so you can decide the size of load that you want. The glass oil jars really don't work well in this unit. Most of use wax in the middle of our herb in the oven. It's not too messy because the herb absorbs the oil.

The Ascent has a little bit of a learning curve, slow and steady draws work well with this vaporizer.

If you have just started vaporizing you may want to stay away from a unit that is new to the market place. You want a well established vaporizer that will be free of any problems.

Well as I said before I had the previous model so I'm not as worried about a learning curve, are the spacers really necessary? I heard someone talking about those in a video review but wasn't sure why as my regular davinci never had an issue with that.

The original Davinci is different than the Ascent.

Davinci has been great about coming on the thread here lately. If any questions you could even give a PM to the rep.

There was a rough start to this vaporizer in the beginning but now it's been smooth sailing. My unit is 2 years old and still is working like a charm. The battery is about 50 min long but that's to be expected.

You can pay and have a new battery installed and a service job all at the same time through Davinci.

I don't use them, but lots of people on here do. Try it without the spacers, you can always get them later

What exactly is the point in spacers...? I'm assuming if your not using a fully packed bowl it just helps it work more efficiently?

No, although some guys use them for that. The primary idea is to add more thermal mass to make vapor. This is a conduction vape. The walls are ceramic and glass, poor conductors. As soon as you start drawing cold air in to take a hit, herb in the center of the mass (away from the walls) drops a LOT (like 100F), ending vapor production there. Spreading hot glass, especially with lots of surface area, through the load area supports more vapor from less herb.

The primary goal is thicker production, really, although some like them for smaller loads rather than other filler like say cotton.

You don't need spacers. Before the spacer were made for the Ascent by Davinci many folks used some small glass flowers, they were actually glass pipe screens that we bought off Amazon.

It was @OF and @nigel that helped to figure out the problem of a large oven and what might work. The cannabis would fly around inside the oven without something to either fill it up or weigh it down.

Edit
Without the glass flowers I wasn't able to get the Ascent to perform very well. I wasn't getting enough vapor production and was ready to give up on this unit. Thanks to the FC community that helped me get through the rough patch and eventually really loved this little portable.

I like the added glass spacers that Davinci is selling but I think they should be included with the new Ascents.

The glass flowers work great, and increased vapor production DRAMATICALLY. I put one larger one over the holes on the bottom with large point facing up, then two smaller ones packed in the top with point facing down. For a smaller bowl pack I put between 5 and 7 flowers total, with the extras spread throughout the load. Just add flowers to your flowers!

You can sometimes find an Ascent in the classified adds right here on FC.

I can't find the glass spacers at the Davinci website anymore?

They have just been removed from the Accessories section...

Will they not be produced anymore?
