At least on the DV it wound up in the hands of a forum member (at least the first give away) that did a pretty decent review(s).

I vow to, if I win, try to be as though and payback this community with a, if not as experienced voice, at least an in-depth and full review. Least I could do for quite a few reviewers on this site that have provided reasoned, informative, and well-stated analysis of specific devices. (Thanks!)

I think I first saw it in the hundreds, so yeah my odds have dropped a lot since then. :)

I'll second (or third) that vote.

What I was getting at a second ago, was that it is better to get one into the hands of someone that will give a well-informed review. But this contest was more about getting the word out to a wider audience prior to release to generate buzz, than to get a solid review out of it. So it could wind up in the hands of some FB person that's never been on a forum whose sole contribution is "It's awesome, man."

So yeah, a, second, narrow-cast contest, with the stipulation a review has to be made (I see no such terms in the current one) to the boards would be good. HINT, HINT. ;)

Saying that, a month or two ago the DV guys done a draw to win a DV...they posted here, f/b and twitter and if I'm not wrong...all the winners were twitter entrants..:suspicious::suspicious:

Yes, we definitely need a FC draw (winner)!

About the twitter user always winning for these contests, I guess it's something to do with how it goes on, you can tweet and grab a contest entry each and every day, so I imagine chances for the twitter participants are quite bigger than for plain mortals....

    Cheers!

I think the design of the glas straw that sits in a silicone "extender" sleeve is a better decision than glas in glas straws. (think glas grinding against glas, still the need for silicone to make the two glas straws airtight, more difficult to take apart/re-assemble, higher chance of braking the straw/s)
I do however hope that the guys at the company won't let them get ahead of themselves (after reading about some pre-order debacles on this dear forum) into buying inferior products (think uncured silicone in the puffit with nasty taste results for some users) to speed up distribution.
It would be nice if they would add an extra silicone sleeve for the straw or give the option to order one when you place your order. I think that one of the biggest "problems" will be the silicone tube gunking up making it hard/impossible to pull out/retrackt the straw and if this, god forbid, happens inbetween two consecutive sessions then it would be nice to be able to just quickly replace the silicone sleeve, whipe the glass straw and start vaping again in a couple minutes. (for that reason maybe also the choice of buying/adding an extra glass screen)
Also, after seeing the latest pics of the "gril" a few times I actually start to like it more and more and the gril makes me wish that the Ascent just had a tad more steampunk details because with the oled screen and the industrial looking holes in the steal gril it sure has this steampunky look for me, would even looked better with that yellowish/rust looking color

All we have had is speculation as to two possible arrangements. We don't know if either is true, or if there is another option we haven't thought of.

(And it could very well be: Silicon sheath (breakage), glass outer shell, silicone gasket (coupling), and glass straw. This would keep it GonG when fully extended, but we have to wait to hear if there is that outer glass shell in there. Hopefully the video tomorrow will tell us more.)

I have mentioned that there *will* be coupling in here somehow (there are at least 2-4 joins), which is most likely silicon. (As you point out "glas grining glas...airtight" etc etc) So there will most likely be some silicon in the path, but such a minor amount as to be negligible over the whole course.

EDIT: I drew a quick sketch of what the dual-glass tubes might look like. I count 3 points where the 4 pieces of glass(or glass+ceramic) will have to be gasketed, all very minimal in the over all picture.

I could be *totally* wrong about this, but, hell, I gotta have something to do while waiting for them to take my money. ;)
    /EDIT

From everything I've been reading about their previous product and this one, I don't think that will be a concern. ;)

That's all user accessible for cleaning and I believe it's been said "replaceable" So there should be parts.

I don't know how removable the glass screen will be, but it was mentioned a non-glass screen can be added for those that want it.

I understand what your saying, and to address this, there is another internal glass sleeve inside the unit. So, when the glass straw is extended, it is still inside another glass sleeve.

Also regarding the heat issue with the DV (what, no one likes our glove warmer...) we switched to a new type of insulation that really holds in the heat, so one really doesn't notice it and there is no "safe spot". Everyone who called the heating element in the bottom bowl portion is correct.

I also noted the grill comments and tried to get them to change it last night. I have a surprise where this is concerned, but it won't happen for another few months...anyways the grill has no function it is purely aesthetic and hides a little master power button.

Love that you mention steampunk! Before we started designing this one, we were playing with steampunk designs and allowing the user to see the vapor trail through the unit..hey still might do this. Unfortunately it got put on the side burner because we weren't sure of the demand, but man I'd like to have one in the office.

I have a video! (Unfortunately its more media driven, but FC geared vids are coming) I'll try to put it up tonight if I can get this huge file off this drive.

Yes, yes, yes, you guys do deserve a contest of your own. We did one a while ago..OhtheAgony won an Ascent in that contest. That was however before we announced anything about the unit. I'll put one up Friday for you guys. Just need to get through this week and the Tobacco Show in Vegas. Anyone there..stop by and say Hi at booth 135.

Cool! Sounds like there might a deluxe replacement grill!

I don't think anyone said they *hated* the existing grill, but that's cool people can customize that if they want.

Ah, so there is no complex airpath to maximize the length of the airpath to heat it.

And the master power button is a new data point. :)
