just wondering if is worth waiting for this one, the arizer solo is available with some great deal at the moment and the newer model is out. So they should have any issues ironed out, whereas this new unit may have some teething problems, although Davinci does have some pedigree
think it's worth waiting?
because i could purchase a arizer right now for £100, no customs, free next day postage[/quote]

Yes I'm a little reluctant to buy any new product before the bugs are worked out but DaVinci was pretty good regarding warranty issues and they have some experience under their belt so I'm going to take my chances and pick one up as soon as it becomes available.

Ooh that is a good question... if it were my money and I needed to buy right this second, I'd get the Solo, simply because there is no guarantee of the Ascent being good yet. The Solo is such a good vape, and right now it's such a good deal that you could easily get an ascent in six months time if you wanted.

By the way, I love your avatar. I love trippy native Canadian art

I'd just get the Solo. Wait for the Ascent and see how it's received. You can always sell your Solo later if you still want the Ascent and you'd probably make most of the money back.

The Solo is a good choice...Arizer makes a good product. We use our Extreme regularly but not for cannabis. We use the potpouri bowl for lavender and sage just to make the room smell nice.

Nunavut Tripper,
I'm in the exact same boat. Some things to think about... (solo vs ascent)
Solo (107 or later) vs Ascent
1) Glass vs. glass
2) arizer vs. da vinci
3) $150-200 vs. $250
4) Old vs. new
5) well-known vs. unknown
6) Preset temps vs. digital display
7) Matte aluminum exterior vs. aluminum, croc skin, or wood
8) Stainless steel heating chamber vs. glass-lined ceramic
9) Canada vs. Nevada
10) mesh screen vs. glass screen
11)2 hour vs. 3-4 hour battery life
13) put bowl in vape vs. bowl is attached (swiveling harness)
14) 2 mouthpieces and potpourri dish vs. 1 mouthpiece
15) convection vs. hybrid
16) oil capability (both)
17) mouthpiece kept separate from vape during storage vs. retractable attached mouthpiece 18) both mouthpieces removable
19) minimal stirring (4-holed) vs. stirring required
20) both lithium ion
21) Now vs. wait a little while

Most of the differences you list range from 'not worth considering' to 'minor'. Glass vs. glass? Canada vs. Nevada? The main difference, and the 1st one to consider for sure, is whether you're looking for a walk around home vape or a pocket vape. The Solo is cheaper and has had the kinks worked out, so unless stealth is a goal, it's the better choice right now- safer and cheaper. The Ascent should be considered if easier portability/stealth is important.

I was listing every possible similarity and difference between the two vapes. Where do u get your data that the solo is safer? Also, if you think the ascent is the only portable one out of the two you should check out solo's stealth adapter. They're both pretty portable in my opinion.

Edit:Feel free to add to my list, I'm sure there are more

Pretty sure max meant that it was safer to choose a unit that is available and has a track record vs one that isn't on the market yet. Also, he didn't say the Solo wasn't portable, he said the Ascent is a better pocket portable, which is hard to refute given that the Ascent is designed to go in your pocket and the Solo... isn't.

If the ascent delivers on what they promise, it will be worth the wait. But it is hard to to futurology in the variables we don't know.

I think the all glass airpath is nice, but i think there will still be conduction going on in both of them, with the exception of the Solo being removable between hits in the Solo which will help lowering the amount of conduction in the process.

The Ascent is smaller, and stealthier so it will be a better choice if the purpose of this unit is to use outside rather than inside.

The digital temp display is better since it allows more choice, but in the end the 7-preset temps will be 90% of the temps you'll use anyway and digital displays are another thing to malfuntion.

The battery is still unknown but i don't think it will be easy to beat Solo's 2h battery life, and i have a hard time trusting manufacturers claims since they are usually an overreaction, but anything +2h is great by me.

To use with water, the Solo is still your best choice.

So, in the end, i think you should choose based in how stealth you want to go because that is the biggest differenciator in these two units.

EDIT: Just realized i concluded the same as max, :D

Yes you're right Max but we have two other tabletop vapes , a Volcano and a Roor XL so the Extreme with the remote control is a natural as a room freshener. These machines just seem to come into my life.
I guess I'm an attractive guy ... to vapes that is , not women.

Ok. My comment on portability was from his comment on home vape vs portable vape. You can use both of them at home if u please but they are both advertised as being portable. Yes, the ascent is more pocket portable.. But I wouldn't consider the solo a home unit.

Edit: he said walk around home vape vs pocket portable. I think my point still stands though. The stealth adapter makes the solo out-of-the house portable.

When ur done using the solo out of the house, your left with at least two different pieces to carry around, and one of those is breakable...to me thats not really portable. The solo is just as portable as a ssv or lsv, doesnt reall fit in pocket, need a case to case to carry around, you can just be farther away from an outlet.

Also ive never came close to two hours of battery with my solo, more like an hour and 20 minutes ish. And as far as using with water you cant really day the solo wins in that catagorysince the ascent isnt even out yet. And its not even that great with water unless you buy a Pvhes gong...imo

I dont know how your using oil in your solo, but unless your using a coton ball, i would not recommend using oil in it. I though about it but then pictured the oil melting down those little holes into the electronics...which cant be good. Also the 2 mouthpiece thing is kinda pointless, they are the same thing except ones bent, and the bent one is usually so loose for people that they never use it. And the 4 hole thing doesnt mean minimal stirring, if anything its the small bowl size that means minimal stirring. i would expect you would have to stir (or not stir) both vapes and get similar results

The ascent will also break if you drop it since it has a glass screen, glass mouthpiece, and glass-lined ceramic bowl. It is one piece instead of two, yes, but if u drop the solo (unit) while the glass is separate from it, the unit probably won't break. It's very well built. If u drop the ascent, the glass will be inside the unit so u have the potential to break all 3 things that I listed that have glass. I guess ur definition of portability is different than mine. The solo unit can fit in one pocket (Yes there wiill be a bulge) and the Glass piece can fit in the other. I'd say it is MUCH more portable than ssv or lsv since those two require it to be plugged in. Literally all I got from your post was negative feedback trying to refute the info that I tried to give to contribute to the solo vs ascent discussion. Some positive feedback/comments would be nice.

Ive already given positive feedback of the solo in the solo thread and in the ascent section when someone asked about the solo in there. I saw your points and didnt agree with them so I posted my point of view, just like how you dont agree with my point of view and posted yours. This is a forumn after all....

i already mentioned that ssv,lsv have to be plugged in, i was just saying that they are just as portable as the solo, i wouldnt say the solo is MUCH more portable. Yes the solo can barely fit in your pocket but if wearing jeans have fun walking around and/or sitting. And you dont know how strng the glass is or if theres any protection on the inside with theascent so you cant say that just by dropping the unit the glass will break and you dont have to worry about the stem rolling off the table. Even when in the PV tubes, ive still had stems roll off a table and break

Also, how do you use oil in the solo? Because the solo was not designed for oil unless your talking about the potporri dish, which does not have a moutpiece, while the ascent is designed for oils...

This sort of response tends to start flame wars. Deal with the substance, not the style.

There is a couple of ways to do it; one being cotton, which you already know. The other way I do it is to paint the inside of the glass straws bowl and screen with honey oil and turn it up to seven. It's like taking a dab if you let it heat up real good before puffing it.

hey guys,
yes it was me you quoted originally, thanks for putting it in a more relevant area, i posted in both the ascent and the solo thread,
i will shed my light on this and maybe round it off
i have decided to buy the solo!!!
just seems like the wise move, it's a trusty veteran on it's 3rd or 4th generation, nuff said.

Although that ascent is a huge step in the right direction, game changer if it works as well as i hope. Furthermore it has more significant features than it's given credit for in this thread, i recently complied a summary of what we know so far, will post if needed.

i will be purchasing the ascent.
having gathered widely sourced advice i will wait, patiently, although
i might crack on the first review,

Still more power to you first movers, you love innovation and she loves you right back

Can you link to where its for sale? people always say check out the micro dab but from what I've seen that product doesn't even exist, just some books on amazon thats all LOL.
It existed but for some reason amazon stopped selling it. Whatever amazon did apparently costed microdab a good sum of $ in inventory so it couldn't have been good. The company is currently trying to find a new retailer and on February 13 they said their new prototype arrived so once they're finished making improvements they'll start selling it again. Should be relatively soon. It costed $10 when it was being sold so I'm assuming it won't cost much more than that when they resume sales.. If u wanna check out where I got this info look at their twitter page @microdab

11- The Ascent is not out yet how can you tell 3-4hours of battery life, Solo is also being sold as a 4 hour battery life(possible on low temp)

15) I do think the solo is hybrid as well but I might be wrong, if you keep the bowl inside the whole session you get the warmth of the SS heater and the warmth of the air...I like it like that anyway.

19) minimal stirring - no stirring is needed honestly (if you're doing the "hybird" mode)

Where am I?
I was in this exact same position a couple days ago. Just ordered the Solo today, Main reasons being It's a well known product with many positive reviews and on its 4th or 5th generation. Plus it was on sale for only 160usd at puffitup. So cheaper, Reliable (you know what your getting) and no need to wait!

I'm defiantly still very interested in the ascent, I will just wait until they release it and the hype cools down a bit and people start reviewing it.
