So i finally got to try out my solo and after a few hit and misses i must say im very impressed! i was able to use it connected to my medicali beaker bong with a PV gong fitting and i am won over! the battery life is a little low and maybe because i was just trying to get used to it and tinkering with temps but it seemed to have gone through half the battery in 4 sessions, i tried to let it be once i loaded it for a few moments to let it all heat up and was able to get some nice clouds. I was setting it between 4-5 on the light scale and only ramped it up to 7 to see how it went and i couldn't much tell the difference. Tho i must say it blew me sideways and think i am now a convert to the vape forever.

Unlike last time when i tried to vape and wasn't all that impressed this time i haven't been smoking for almost a year now and and have given up the cancer sticks. I cant see me ever burning the herb again and now have a few mates who all think the same, most of whom have given up the smokes and now have started vapeing.
Awesome man glad you quit those nasty ass cigs!

About to buy a solo and a bubbler as well...where did you get your GonG attachment! Im having trouble finding one

Most of us (probably) got them from Planet Vape (who's site seems to be "down" right now). Be careful, there are some shops trying to steal customers with similar names cropping up, the one you want is in Canada and sells "Planet Vape High Efficiency Stems" (AKA PVHES). Hot rodded stems for Solo.

You want either that line with "GonG" (Glass on Glass) connector (either 14 or 18mm to match your WT), or you can get the same thing from them (different link) without the HE modes, a more simple (and slightly lower cost) GonG deal.

In the mean time, guys have good luck with the stock Solo stems into a 14mm Female GonG. Some of us used a rubber band wrapped around the end as a gasket until our genuine GonGs got here. BTW, they're often out of stock.....

Looks like you are good to go. Just know that, that bubbler might have alot of resistance when coupled with the solo.

Really? Ive been watching alot of videos and hent heard any complaints. Ill lookout for it though and report my findings...I dont mind a little resistance if i can get clouds!
Also going to have a pinnacle hydrotool to throw right on my Solo/EQ...that should be fun

Nice yeah man, solo IMO pairs much better with lower resistance water pipes. I heard the triple honeycomb has alot of resistance and just wanted to give you a heads up. I have a double honey comb 16" pipe that I would try if I had my solo on me. Hydrotube has pretty low resistance (with right water levels) and pairs great with the solo in my experience.

Ohhh I see what your saying with the percs...not always the more the better...unfortunatley that was my thought process haha but like I said, if i can get clouds i dont mind the resistance...thanks for the headsup makes alot of sense!

By the way im pulling on a 15inch bong with 11 percs and an ash catcher with 11 percs as well (with the EQ...so im guessing my resistance was already pretty high, hopey it doesnt get too hard to pull

This is exactly what I'm doing. I was fortunate enough to get a GonG with my F-Bomb from PV just this past weekend, but for monster, fall over hits, my favorite scientific bong is my go-to. I'm not really a cloud chaser, but it is pretty awesome to use my straight stem and see the billowing results.

And @OF, I totally agree with you- once you buy that first Solo, you'll buy that second with a quickness. I'm fortunate and live in a big enough city with a college population that we're spoiled for choice with headshops. When my first Solo did the crazy light thing, I had a new one in hand before I sent my original off to be checked out.

What are you guys doing to clean out the heating chamber? I have a steady crust now that just wont go away, even with ISO and some scrubbing

I use 91 ISO on a q tip on a warm solo. Hold solo upside down to prevent and ISO from dripping in holes.

Magic eraser to get the brown stains off the stem You could try that to then wipe with ISO not in hot solo again upside down.

Last resort a very fine wire wheel on. Dremmel.
Used that on my No2 bowl came out shiny clean.
Maybe a very fine Emory cloth on the dremmel?

So taking iso-soaked pipe cleaners to my heating chamber would be a bad idea? The q-tip isn't getting the crust off. I have most of the heating chamber very clean but there's still a tiny dark splotch of residue thats persistent towards the center. I was thinking of taking pipe cleaners to it to see if it helps but I don't know if scratching up the inside of the heating chamber would damage it.

I would not worry personally, for the reasoning above (the surface 'heals up' at the atomic level). But then again, I'm not upset by the dark spots in mine. Some guys report success with 'magic eraser' (white I believe?). I'd stay away from abrasives.

I ended up using iso an a small sharp knife to scrape the brown ring away that built up. Now I regularly give it a scrape when its hot to keep it from building up again. I think the brown ring gives off a not so nice flavor.

try this

This is how I clean my chamber regularly ;
I use a very fine screen ( NO2 screens ) , insert it in the chamber
Add iso/qtip on top of screen , use it like a mini-mop .

My stems are a little bit loose and I want to get an o-ring that is just a bit bigger than the one that comes with the PVHES gong. What size/model should I get?

I have a light ring near the outer edges of the oven, looks to be about in line with the stem where little flecks of kief may have ended up pressing between the stem and oven. Very light almost like a light coating of clean reclaim in the stem. It bothered me at first (like the first scuff marks on my Solo) but I don't think it is affecting taste. I don't think I could scrape it out or off as it's not that much "buildup" I think of it like a patina of sorts. I do make sure that my stems don't have kief on the stem rim now and when using it dry I also put a screen on top of the flowers so there is no direct flower-heater contact (bad taste to me!) so maybe my double screen practice has saved me from some more cleaning. I don't remember the last time I actually cleaned the oven with anything more than some air to get stray bits.

Someone was talking about the new taste with a new Solo or an Air (I can't remember). I remember the smell when I first got my Solo and honestly think it's more from the packaging that in the unit? A lot of electronics (I'd say nearly all of them honestly) have the new smell out of the box but we don't breathe through all the electronics we but it will clear up.

Edit: @sloth we use the size 113 orings, I don't know the inner diameter measurements but you would want one with slightly smaller inner diameter maybe the next fraction down? My new stock straight stem is also a little loose with the o ring...

Take a SOLO and load it with top shelf cannabis colas.
That and that's all we need to do!
113 seals - phves stems and gongs.
My solo smells great!

As bit of salt along with the ISO helps with some abrasion to help with getting sparkling clean Solo stems.

So the package from Puffitup came exactly when promised and armed with info provided by the folks here i embarked. The package arrived at about 5:30 and by 6:00 I had it charging. By 8:00 all the lights were lit so I resolved not to try it out until after midnight to give it 4 hours of overcharging, as recommended.

Like many others I was impressed with the solidity of the unit. It was sparse on instructions, but with the folks here providing support they weren't needed. Nice puffitup touches were the free grinder (nice to have the back-up to the one I already have) and the packs of screens and o-rings.

With the unit all charged up and over-charged, I turned it on and set it for level 4 and let it heat up for a minute after the 4 lights lit up. I inserted a screen in the straight tube and using the suck it up method (which worked great) I loaded the bowl and inserted it. It went in a lot easier than I was expecting.

I see what the discussion was about the draw - even though mine is the newest model. It seemed that the stem had wiggle room and how it was wiggled affected the draw. I was actually very comfortable with the slow draw recommended by some here and I immediately got great vapor.

This is my 3rd vaporizer and the other 2, a cheapy that broke and a VapirRise that is about to be demoted from primary to backup, and for both of the others it wasn't until I had 3-6 bowls under my belt that I felt I was really getting good performance. It took figuring out things about herb prep and loading and tweaking until I got it just right.

With the Solo. however, I was in midseason form from the first draw. It took about 10 seconds to figure out an effective draft technique that gave me excellent vapor. I will probably get better, but even if I do not, this is a very very acceptable performance level for me.

I can certainly see how people say that they get a back-up Solo to their primary Solo. If the Solo had been my first I probably would be looking at another one for back-up. As it is, my prior vape, the Rise, was very acceptable as my primary device and will certainly be an adequate back-up. In fact, as I rite this I am vaping on the Rise as the Solo charges.

Anyway, that is my current impression and review. My thanks to those who were so generous with their expertise.

Thanks very much for the feedback. It's reports like this that reminds a guy (or gal...) how important it is helping the new friends get up to speed. Ten seconds? Hardly worth mentioning......

Welcome to the club! I'm looking forward to more stories as you explore the Solo, as you've already found out it has a lot to offer and can support a very wide range of techniques well.

Have you tried 'hamster style' yet? Best practiced in private I think.

"Well done, you" as the Brits might say.

Ordered a new Solo and Vapecase. Any recommendations on what else I might need. Also would like to know if the stems are still loose on newer models and no I don't want the air, I love solos!
