Hey all. id a search in here but what I found was dental related, not quite what im looking for. Never been under "real" anesthesia before so I have a few questions about that as well as using MJ after. Ive pushed an pushed not to be put under but the gastro is being (pardon me) a dick about it. Ive had two endoscopies with fentyl (cant do morphine family and personal history of bed effects) and versed which were fine no post wake up vomiting or more nausea than usual.

My nausea is already barely considered controlled I don't want to add anesthesia to the mix. I still have one route left going over his head with the hospital he has privileges at but in case that doesn't work I don't want to spend another few years till someone decides to do some tests again. My family wont shut up about it an considering they provide my roof and such (disability cant covered my meds and food forget adding housing to that) so I don't feel like I have the option to skip it. Im really pretty darn ready to be done with all this stuff. If they will finally take a look at my pancreas and gall bladder that's all I feel I want out of this doc.

Anyway if you have any advice about "going under" especially considering that this doc doesn't know about the MJ. Since I have marinol RXed I will just tell them that instead. I haven't taken it but that's as close to honest as im willing to be with someone who has been postponing me for months and disregarding my personal experience as a "professional sick person of 7 years 24/7".

I get pissy about people thinking I don't know what the crap goes on and how I feel. Its been the entirety of my life for a long time. It would save a lot of time if they just said "ok". I don't get what his deal is...ok sorry ranting now :p.

Anyway advice for me on waking up an how to deal with possible complications and side effects? Much appreciated thank you :)

I've had anesthesia several times now for a variety of operations from endoscopies to joint replacement surgeries. I have never stopped using mmj during any of my operations; before or after.

However, each person responds to anesthesia differently. Some can get violently ill or have headaches. I'm fairly lucky in that it doesn't really have an effect on me afterwards. I'd play it by ear, if I were you, and see how I feel afterwards.

It sounds like you're upset over something that hasn't happened. Fentanyl and Versed are used for both "twilight sleep" sedation and full anesthesia, it's only a matter of degree. And BTW Fentanyl is "morphine family" or more precisely Demerol family. From your post it's not clear what exactly you want, and the doc is likely just trying to make you comfortable. I'd say just go with the flow, it'll wear off fast, they don't use the long acting ones these days.

I know what it is like to be stressed about life when one is chronically ill. My ulcerative colitis was so bad I was looking to have my large intestine remove as it was pretty ulcerated. Luckily I found a holistic approach that has made all the difference in my life and I feel wonderful now as well as making a full recovery.

I have been under several times for the GI doc. Do not worry about going under, they will give you the sedation and make you comfortable. In less then 10 seconds you will take a nap, then you are awake and a bit groggy. I was never nauseous afterwards or anything just a bit tired and forgetful and I would take another nap after eating and wake up completely straight.

These guys do this shit everyday man all dang day. A procedure like endoscopy/colonoscopy is quite routine. Go with the flow brother, no worries the docs got you.

@GenYHippie You will have no complications with the anesthesia and MMJ, Honest. As long as they know you have a script for Marinol all should be fine for you. Like fernand said above it sounds like your worrying about this with no real need. I've been under more times then I can remember and have never suffered any negative effects from anesthesia. They really do try to make you comfortable and keep you safe. Since you are lucky and live in an MMJ state I would hope you could be honest with your doctors about any fears you may have. Honestly I always vape up before any invasive medical tests or surgery. I too have a script for Marinol Which I find useless and expensive(cost twice as much as my ssi moneys) and the doctors have never told me not to take it before surgery so I think vaping instead should be fine, works for me.

Great to know thank you, helps put me more at ease of not telling them. I know my grandpa would get hallucinations and headaches after, my uncle (not blood related but interesting) gets VERY happy and flirty, a few of my aunts an my grandma threw up for a few hours then slept the rest of the day away. So who knows right?

I didn't know they used versed for full sedation, in that case since ive ready had it he should really listen and go with that instead. He wants to use propofol which im highly uncomfortable with. With fentanyl strangly it seems to be the one area where natural doesn't pay off. For whatever reason syntetic morphine doesn't have the same side effects for me and is way more effective for pain. My grandpa (who had a massive stroke) was RX versed at home which after not hearing it used for full seadation then seeing than makes me think of it as more of a relaxant/tranquilizer than sedation.

I did make it abundantly clear what ive had before and brought the pics, video, slides, dictation, all that and he said he wont do versed/fentanyl stubborn bugger. I don't see how he could have misunderstood me unless he was really trying not to listen.

Glad to know they aren't supposed to be long acting. Anything my liver has to process is very slow due to my RX meds. My body takes close to double the time with anything especially with ingested because of my slow stomach slowing its absorbtion before it even gets there. Its so stressful this week. Ive been waiting months on a dermatologist consult (big panel like 35 something of them) and if the anesthesia goes bad I miss than and my weekly shots which have to be certain brand due to filler allergies.

So glad you have been able to find relief away from the "white coats". Glad to hear you didn't have a bad reaction when waking, I haven't heard of one person with existing nausea being ok when they wake up which adds to me stress of it. As you can tell I have very little trust in white coats if you can even really call it trust... ive been screwed over a lot. Outright lied to before and recently so im very skeptical and when someone disregards my experiences it brings that out even more.

Even that last time they gave me a bit more versed I slept for a go 20 hours then my mom kept waking me up because they said if I couldn't stay awake I needed to go back to the hospital. I didn't feel nauseous actually I think that much sleep did me some good but the fact that I wasn't processing it out of my system as I should have still bothers me.

Thanks Rude Boy. This is so weird for me ive spent years laying everything big and small out for them to get nothing it return. Weather it was humiliating or not ive told them so this less then full disclosure is new to me.

Man I wish I knew these docs who care about comfort.... ive been lucky to have more good nurses then bad but I remember seeing them get pushed around by docs more than I care to think about. I feel like ive seen more "doctor diety syndrome" than many souls with similar health problems. Maybe its where i live maybe its who my insurance covers but they generally act like they are the all knowing when ive met them less than 10 minutes ago. They haven't even finished my chart or asked me more then what brings you here before they assumne they know more about my day to day life than I do.

My GP may be one someday who I would tell he wrote me for marinol my first visit soi would be a lot less concerned telling him. Docotors specialist or not tend to write me off by the second visit because my labs don't show much of anything and my previous scopes and scans aren't blaringly bad. What they see they say cant be as bad as how I feel and my abnormal labs can be chocked up to malnutrition, vomiting, and meds. Im in a fairly conservative area so I figure why give them one more reason?

Sounds like you're going to have ERCP done to check pancreas? You could ask for MRCP which is not invasive and does not require anesthesia. Or EUS would be even better. ERCP could lead to a bad case of pancreatitis if not done correctly.

    Good luck.

I would have to go get out my binder to check but im fairly certain its the EUS. It doesnt involve the MRI or Xray but it does ultrasound.

I feel you, my new Dentist is pushing for me to go under to get wisdom teeth removed. Im pushing for him to go fuck himself and not have my wisdom teeth removed. I have no interest in going under. On a side note, i need like 10 fillings and 2 caps. fuck doctors and dentists. I feel that they view patients as a source of income and nothing more. Im also debating telling my new dentist about my MMJ to see if its ok with local anesthetics which i hope it is.

Yea most likely the EUS, which I forgot is performed with either sedation or general anesthesia.

I also just had surgery about a month ago, and I didn't stop using cannabis either. I cut out the edibles, for the most part, a couple weeks before surgery, though.

I was one of the people that was violently ill after surgery. I started vomiting almost immediately after I woke up. Kept vomiting for days, and almost had to go to the ER. My doctor called in some Phenergan suppositories, and that finally got it under control.

MMJ is your friend for post surgery pain.

Hey all just checking back in with an update and thanks :). Everything went ok i kept vaping just avoided edibles to play on the safe side. Told them about the marinol not the MJ. The anesthesiologist was great he explained what i had before compared to this time. The worst part was the first 45 minutes after i woke up. I threw up alot of the lubricant they used on the tubes and some acid.

My heart apparently acted up and they werent able to monitor it like they wanted to i woke up in cardio ICU instead of outpatient recovery. So when they check on you that much i couldnt break out the solo and head to the bathroom or something. I brought my emergency RX meds which slowed the puking down enough to get me out of there where i could vape in the car.

Went with my good ole reliable Querkle it made me sleepy again but once i got home and took a nap most of the extra nausea was gone. Aside from that my "battle scars" with the procedure are a split lip from the tubes hitting the mouthpiece, a 20 hour and still going headache, and more of a sore throat than anticipate but not as bad as my last endoscopy. When i left the hospital yesterday i looked a little bad ass lol. A split lip and swollen eyes from my chemical allergies i looked like i was getting patched up from a fight :p.

Thanks Viki :). If my parrots would shut up im sure it would help the headache lol but im getting by. Have some tapioca in the slow cooker for an easy snack to swallow tonight. I was prepared and stocked in "smooth" and liquid foods just in case. Hope to hear more at my follow up since the doc didnt give us much. A nurse (who wasnt even in the room for the EUS) was kind enough to go take a peek at the dictation for me since the doc blew me off. She said that they saw my pancreas was aproximatly 1/3 the size it should be and appeared atrophied. Also even though i stopped solids by 7pm and stopped clear liquids after midnight is till had solids in my stomach when they did the test at 2pm the next day! So id say the results of my gastric emptying test was generous when they said my stomach was very slow. That test said i emptied 40% by 5 hours so at more than 12 hours later i still had food in there...well i think that says alot about my food issues.
