Guy's, I don't really know what all the big hoo-ha is over a song....no big deal to me, if you don't like it don't listen to it....simple.
Everyone in the world is entitled to their opinions and beliefs, if you don't like someones view on colour, creed, race whatever it may be...don't associate with them or support whatever they are up to.

Me personally, I am fairly racist and not afraid to admit it...although not strongly racist, as I do have black and Indian accquaintances.
I have also travelled to the Indian and African sub-continents along with the Carribean etc and mingled and socialised with the locals and enjoyed every minute of it...there just seems to be something that comes over these ethnic groups when they come into the western world, that they suddenly grow a chip on their shoulders, quite a lot of the time when these people get disciplined for failures in the workplace out comes the race card...."I'm just getting disciplined for this because I'm black etc" I have witnessed this phrase a few times first hand when having to discipline members of staff for workplace failures....yet a white guy will take the disciplinary if he feels it's worthy without coming out with simillar phrases.

I grew up in a city in Scotland in the 70's and it was normal for most people to be racist to some extent, even although most people didn't think they were.
In my city, I could have counted on one hand how many black people there were...and you never really saw them.
There were a few Indians and Pakistani's, but again you never saw them much...only when you went to the corner shop etc, as that was their business...very rarely would you see them walking down the street.
Here in the U.K even nowadays, blacks, Indians, Pakistanis etc generally congragate in areas and keep themselves to themselves....usually when the ethnics of whatever creed start moving into an area, the whites start moving out to elsewhere as the ethnics generally start to take over whatever area it may be, so before long you start feeling un-easy being a white in your own area and you too move on...which is a real shame that, that happens as the U.K is a white country....but in some areas you would think you were in India or the Carribean etc...and this white flight seems to be happening in my area now, as more and more Indians are moving in.

Also in the U.K crime statistics point to black people being the number one offenders for Rapes, Gun Crime, Muggings etc etc....most times in the press, tv news etc if any woman or girl has been raped the description given is of a black guy, same with muggings, gun crime and stabbings....so it's no wonder that some people here in the U.K still hold that racist view.

I would just like to add that I never wrote my post above to offend anyone or start any arguments, I am merely going with the flow of the topic on hand.
These are my views and these views do hark back to my childhood up bringing, but they are also indulged by the sad state of affairs of the U.K governments open door policy on immigration....my father, grand father and great grandfathers fought in world wars for freedoms, benefits, free healthcare etc but due to this country's policy of letting almost any waif and stray from any country into this country to exploit these benefits and rip the system off, without any real input into the system from them I feel my views are just.

We all have the animal side of our nature that is definitely racist. Knowing that can help the other side compensate and transcend racism (know thyself). But sometimes we submerge into the body and take care of business - cracking skulls or whatever it takes to survive.

It's the ugly side of life we pretend doesn't exist when safe at the center of civilization - pretending war at the border or in the ghetto is for a higher cause, or sometimes worse, not justified at all. War has historically been racist, for what is a nation but an extended family, and what is race but an extended family - wars are typically brutal preservation of family, i.e. the familiar.

The U.S. being a melting pot is a beautiful and ugly lab experiment - the resulting elixir to be determined. I hope the whole shithouse doesn't blow.

We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So lets start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
Its true we'll make a better day
Just you and me

Over simplification is a fatal mistake to any argument, but I will say this.

Every first day of school a professor walks in. THE MILLISECOND HE/SHE WALKS INTO MY EYESIGHT I do something many consider terrible. I prejudge.

That is right I judge the SHIT out any professor based off of anything and everything. From shoes, to finger nails, to belt buckles, and hair color. I prejudge that professor!

I am not ashamed, because guess what? You do it too. We all prejudge, its survival; we all as humans have evolved to develop this INCREDIBLE magical sixth sense. So that SOLELY based off an IMAGE. We can invoke reactions, fight or flight responses, emotions, adrenaline, "the heebie jeebies"...To PREJUDGE what the image presented IS; BEFORE the images actually DOES anything.

The very reason we have evolved and lasted this long as a species has ALOT to do with our ABILITY to prejudge. Now society says prejudice is bad? Calls for "WAR ON PREJUDICE!!"?

Go fuck yourself society; I'll keep judging the shit out of people.

^^^ thanx for the link , great Colbert review, the rewrite should chart a lot Higher .

RUDE BOY,
Hating any person for their race or religion is stupid. It's the INDIVIDUAL you should hate, based on their individual actions. If that individual happens to be a different color, that's just coincidence, not a hate crime. As a Jew I guess I should be more aware of racism but it's such a non-issue for me. There will always be ignorance and hatred in this world,I choose to ignore if possible. Unless it gets personal, then it's a whole different story.
The good news is that racism will completely vanish by this time next year, that's what the Mayans predicted and we know how good they are at predicting future events.

Wow, as a brown Indian I have to say this is super fucking racist, I hope I never meet you IRL, and I will be reporting this post.

See, here's my take on this.

We all have choices that we can make. And so..........my questions are the following:

If you KNOW that dressing a certain way "could" imply that you are a criminal, and if you abhor anyone calling you a criminal, why then choose to dress like you "could" be one.

Same thing for flying the Confederate flag. If you KNOW that the majority of folks that don't live in the south, look upon that flag as a symbol of slavery and racism, and if you really don't want to be labeled as such, why in the fuck would you want to fly it?

Of course, you can make the choice to fly that flag or dress that way anyway, but in so doing, know, with your eyes WIDE OPEN, that the stereotypical labels WILL come flying your way. THAT is a fact, but it is also your choice.

If you want to be proud of your Southern roots, than embrace diversity while at the same time, denying separatism.

If you don't want to be labeled a criminal, than don't act and look like one. There is a large segment of our population that has embraced the "Gangsta" lifestyle, be it through fashion and/or music. If you're going to embrace that image, than how in the hell can you rebel against those that label you for being successful at portraying that image?
It is NOT the responsibility of the oppressed to change the way they do anything at all because of the negative perceptions of a biased mainstream; it is very much the responsibility of said mainstream to make an effort to understand and integrate the minorities. you, sir (or ma'am), come from a position of privilege and this will always colour your view of the 'other'. Please remember this - it is not your place or right to decide how best the integration of the minorities should happen and what compromises (if any) they should take in order to hasten this process. Your lot is merely to observe and, if you wish to support the minority, to ally unconditionally.

I disagree the song is not racist nor is it claiming that racism no longer exists. Brad is saying that he should be able to be period of his southern roots without being labeled a racist while ll cool j is saying he should be able to wear baggy jeans and gold chains without being labeled a criminal. that song is actually a call to end racism. It is drawing light to a very common problem in society, people are prejudice in that they pre-judge others who don't look and dress like them.
This ^^....both of these singers, to me are saying look past the obvious and sometimes controversial appearances and look to the person inside.

Personally, I have no white guilt nor do I accept that I benefit from white privilege. I'm also Jewish, my grandparents came in steerage though Ellis Island not speaking a word. Five brothers and sisters got one brother through college. My father sold magazines to get through Duquesne (yeah, I know...Jew in the Jesuit school! LOL). My generation did indeed benefit...from the hard work of the two generations before us.

I'm just sick at all of the finger pointing and embracing of the cult of victimization so prevalent in our society.

My mothers family was from the Bronx. My father's was Oakland area in Pittsburg. Want out of the hood...they provide an example of how to do it....work hard and over generations your family's fortunes will improve. This is how Americans have done it for 200 years. THAT is what makes America great.
