Also remember that in both cases where there were cracks near the USB port, the mouthpiece melted beforehand. That absolutely affects performance, and the fact that this plastic continues to crack in other places seems to indicate that this is not just an issue with the mouthpiece.

If I'm reading the original post right, the device outright stops heating rather than eventually making its way back up to the set temperature. That's why I suspect the the low battery issue. Please correct me if I'm wrong on the symptoms.
