another vote for the OG mighty. I've had mine for 8 years with zero issues. easy to use, easy to clean, WPAs available, decent stealth factor. planet of the vapes frequently has 'lightly used' ones (people returned them after a week or two) for ~$260.

I use an OG mighty for concentrates (mostly wax). you can get small concentrate pads that fit in their dosing caps, but this method works better for sessions, so if you're only taking a hit at a time, it wouldn't be a good fit.

I have 2 pens (linx hypnos, crossing tech lightning). as people have posted, harsh hits are a feature of short vapor paths, which all pens have. I mostly use concentrates. my go-to is my mighty; its cooling unit makes the vapor much cooler than the pens'. for better flavor I vape at low temps...

even a so-so concentrate should taste at least okay. maybe your banger was too hot. you could try putting a tiny bit in your banger, heating it up only until it starts to boil/vaporize, then don't inhale it: just smell the vapor to see if it's pleasant. if not, it might just be a failed attempt...
