I tend to fill up the bowl a mm or so below the screw that holds the mouthpiece in place. I don't pack it down at all. With dry/powdery herb, I get 1-2 big hits off it, while with sticky/wet herb I get 3-5. However, how big your hits are and how many you can take mostly depends on the torch's...
